  1. 235 lb/ft torque is roughly the same as a stage one ZR charger! Obviously not the same bhp but very nice torque increase. Eat this, did you get rid off your shrick? Does anyone know who or where I could source a second hand shrick? Does NS Racing sell them (tried ringing them several times but always get no answer)? Anyone here selling one sometime soon? The only "downside" I see is the 2-3 hour job just to change the spark plugs.
  2. Anyone know when the next VR6 rolling road day is at Stealth? Be nice to see what everyones' mods are and what power / torque they're making. Cheers
  3. I'm assuming his 1.8t must already have some tuning to beat a supercharged vr. I agree with above though...why waste money ...start of with a fast car already. He must have money to burn ...who would buy a mk3 gti and then spend £5k on it and then plan on spending a further £2k... £7k!! (Plus the cost of the gti in the first place, probably around £2k). So for ~£9k I'm sure you could buy and turbo a vr6 and get some nice big v6 power.

    buying a vr6

Hi James A later VR6 (1996 onwards to be sure of getting an "OBD2" - this is a later golf with a better ecu and a bit more power - ~185bhp - than the earlier models which have ~174bhp) is a good starting point if you want close to 200 bhp. To get close to the 200 mark you need a cat back stainles exhaust and ideally a decat or high flow cat, and a good cold air induction kit. BMC are recommended on here. That will get you around 195-200bhp. "Highline" is the same as a normal vr6 except it has a few extra 'cosmetic' options as standard inside the car such as leather seats and a few others (
  5. Good question...Can anyone reliably say what torque increase a shrick inlet manifold will give?

    Chip advice?

Hi mate Totally agree with above. A suited remap from Stealth will be far better to get the most out of your mods and keep fuelling spot on, compared to an 'of the shelf' chip, which is the same price. Also one thing to bear in mind is whether you have an OBD1 ecu (on all golfs made up to mid 95) or later OBD2 (later golfs)... An obd2 will not get any power gains whatsoever unless you already have big mods already... However if you have the earlier golf with obd1 you will see around 5-10bhp increase with a chip. But as said above a custom remap at stealth will possibly get you more power (
  7. Hi Question to those with a stainless 6 branch exhaust manifold.. what does yours sound like at low speed and on idle? Mine sounds quite "tinny" and is audiable if I have the windows down and the car is at idle. I was just wondering what sort of sounds should I look out for if there was a very slight blow? And would power loss be very noticable or hardly noticable (dependent on size of blow)? Cheers Matt
  8. Mark did you fit the cold air feed or not bother? I haven't bother and don't notice any difference. Stealth said it wont make any difference. Most of the good sound will go if the cold air feed is fitted...unfortunately. I may get round to fitting my cold air feed sometime but its a bit of a hassle getting a garage to move the carbon cannistor.
  9. Also depends what your budget is. £3k will get you a nice relatively low mileage fsh example. Again, same as above, a well looked after vr will last up to 300k miles. One thing to check for any vr is if the chains need doing (esp, if over 100k miles) and always a good idea to ring up the garage of a potential car where it has been serviced for the last few years. Ideally it will have been serviced at a VR6 specialist as opposed to a main dealer. Are you looking to buy one or sell one?
  10. £4k what a rip off! You can get a turbo conversion for that money!
  11. Hi I have a mate who is trying to sell his clio williams. So far he has had no luck at all with papers and the usual magazines etc. Because it is such a niche car I suggested he try advertising it in a renault clio forum or similar to get some interest. I have tried looking on google but can't find any renault forums at all. Does anyone here know of one... even if it is for other makes of renault it could be useful? Thanks for any help. Cheers Matt
  12. Hi Yesterday from a rolling start (after coming round a roundabout) I entered a dual carriageway and accelerated hard. I was in the outside lane. In the inside lane a car's length in front of me was a very new saab 9-3 convertable. I could hear it accelerate hard too. There was nothing in front of the saab and nothing in front of me in my lane. We both put our foot down and I was pretty surprised how well it stayed with me. I started overtaking it but it wasn't going much slower at all. After 70 the gap got much bigger and I really pulled away..they were still trying as they went into th
  13. Hi I have recently had a custom quick shift fitted (my original shift has been modded to reduce the throw) which has reduced the throw by about 40%. It is really good and far better than the stock golf vr6 box. One thing I have noticed is the gear stick has a bit of play in it more so than the stock gearbox, but only to the right (only when in neutral, 3rd, 4th, 5th gears). It's not slack to the left. I'm not too bothered by it but wondered whether this is this normal? Thanks for any info.
  14. Hi mate. This link to a post in this forum may be of interest to you: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?117101 I average about 300-320 miles to a full tank if I let it run completely empty. Although I only fill up when it is about to hit the red zone. Not good at all to keep it in the red too often. My mpg averages about 32 mpg and I drive it normally, bit of fast driving and taking it easy to work in traffic etc. during the week. I don't go over 70mph when I commute to work down the dual carriage way during the week. No point at all (unless I'm late). But I have
  15. Tried the link but the forum says the post doesn't exist. What did it say roughly?

  17. I get about 320 miles to a full tank if I drive normally. Average about 33mpg. I drive it hard at the weekends but take it easy during the week.
  18. Well my Milltek fitted perfectly. Stealth really liked it. There may be a few duds out as with all exhausts. Jetex are supposed to be harder to fit as they have a 2.5" bigger bore. The milltek is the same size as stock but more free flowing. My Milltek is brilliant. Not overly loud. But really howls like an aston martin when you floor it. Couple it with a BMC and it sounds perfect. Supersprint are supposed to be very good too. Jetex are good especially good with forced induction due to the bigger bore. Unfortunately you won't see much of a gain with any of these unless you go for furthe
  19. All sorted. Had the thermostat changed and all seems fine now. Still pulls as hard as hell all 207bhp. Glad to have the car back! Also got The Phirm's quick shift for my gearbox. Certainly an improvement over the long throw on the stock gear box. Great thanks to the phirm for diagnosing and fixing it all. Only two days ago I thought my engine was f*cked!
  20. Thanks guys. Ok guys...another question - worst case scenario, say my head gasket needs to be done...now or in the future, how much extra (on top of the labour and parts to do the head gasket) would it cost "roughly" to fit a "big valve head", and everything needed? Got to try and make the best out of a bad situation! Anyone here know how much extra power a big valve head might produce? Or would a "gas flowed head" be better value for money..I know this is a lot cheaper, but how much power would this produce? Cheers guys
  21. How can I tell if I have warped my head or not... will a compression test show up this? If my head is warped what is the remedy...a new head gasket? Or more?! Thanks again for any help.
