  1. I had this a while ago. The earth strap on the starter motor was perished, so was making a contact only on occasion. Its a braided strap on the top of the starter. I replaced mine with a home made bodge using a halfords earth strap and a cuple of clips.
  2. i think your switch should be ok. You pull the headilght switch once for fron fogs, then again for rear fogs. My last golf had no front fogs but the switch still had two pull settings. Reckon you only need the loom and the actual fogs. m If your headlight switch has 2 pull out settings i reckon you should be ok.
  3. Another thumbs up for stealth from me. & its not just vince thats helpful, I find all of them knowledgable and helpful. Not too expensive either, labour rate is quite competitive.

    colour?

I used to have a mauve golf. Proper name is either Dusty Mauve or Dusky Mauve. Its a lot more of a dark purple than the highline purple.

Just got a quote off a 'cash in hand' type bloke. Seems to know what he's talking about. HE's about 50 as well which makes me trust him (silly of me i know). He's been doing it for 30years. For £300 he'll do all the work i need doing: Paint/blend keyed drivers door & rear panel Sort out small rust patch on rear arch Fill/weld & paint rusty patches on door sills Sort ot small patch of rust above wind screen Paint front grille and sort out a rust spot on passanger door I think im gonna go for it. I'll post here when its done with a report.

I need bits and bobs done to my car body, but have failed to find a decent bodyshop in the birmingham area. MOst plaes either only do insurance jobs, or 'dont touch rust mate' Ive got: rust on the door sills (its gone thru the metal &| ) rust patch on a rear arch keyed drivers door & rear panel rust just above windscreen Any recommendations appreciated.
  7. only redeeming feature is the colour. thats just wrong
  8. Spending it at a mates house party, with a big rake of booze. (2 cases of grolsh for £20 at tesco btw)
  9. I have been told that my new engine has done about 9-10k. No history, but was sourced by Vince at Stealth who said that after looking at the engine internals, his professional opinion was about 9-10k. Those who know Vince will know he's not one to make things up.
  10. hello all. I'm in india at the mo, and just got a few mins to check the vr6oc site. Back in the UK in 2 days, currently in Bombay. Driving here is crazy - cows & pedestrians on the motorway. People driving the wrong way down motorways. 5 people on 1 scooter, people driving with no lights at night, mental, and dont get me started on autorickshaws. Its been more of an endurance than a holiday, although bombay is well cool. I have seen a total of zero VW's out here - too expensive. Not looking forward to coming back to the freezing cold. No doubt my VR wont start when i get back, so ju
  11. put in G12+. G11 and G12 dont mix - they react and beclome a bropwn sludge which kanckers your engine internals. I think that a trip to the alps is ok with G12+ - you just need to up the concentration, and when you get back, bleed some and top up with deionisied water.
  12. I found this thread - sounds like the same engine? si/non? http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=747366 Read it, the following text is from there: ...If you want to pull these suckers out, remove the wiring harness with the little clip (just use your fingers to squeeze the top of the clip thingy open and pull - POP!) ...and then pull up on the coilpacks. If they've been in there a while you can rotate them a little to get them loose and then pull them straight out, they will come. They fit onto the spark plugs pretty much the same way that your old HT leads used to. Just a snap-on dealy.
  13. I wasn't paraniod before the scratching antics earlier this week. I think that whats been said above is just common sense. As for kerbing alloys, im reluctant to get a set cos you cant help hitting the kerb outside my house.
  14. Excellent - i'm sure he must have RSI or tennis elbow from all that polishing
  15. i know what you mean, but i think my wheels need refurbing anyway, & i though maybe get a different finish while im at it.
  16. A sort of light blue metallic G plate Golf Driver followed by a dusky mauve L plate Golf Driver then my current silver R plate Golf VR6.
  17. thinking about getting my standard 15"bbs powder coated. What are your views on this mirror finish? they can do all 4 wheels for £225 - is this good, it includes removing scratches etc? My cars silver btw http://www.sweeneysherlock.co.uk/images/alloys/polished_lg.jpg
  18. Just thought i'd post for the hell of it. went for a drive after work - A & B roads - took the car to the limit (well it was actually MY limit). I know people love to get more power, but quite frankly the 2.9 lump i have is plenty for me. So what if other cars can beat me, i dont care. (as an aside - when you have your lights on - do the 'L' & 'R' buttons on the elecrtic mirror switch light up? I took my door off last week & cant remember if they ever did - cos they dont now) bye. .......end........
  19. ive got magnecor blue leads - acf is right - they dont fit into the guides. My guides have been 'made to fit'. to be honest, they dont make a difference to the vw standard ones, as they are very good to start with.
  20. I use a hammer. At least I did up until last week when i smahsed the whole thing to bits. So bear in mind that they are quite brittle.
