    Here are a few phots of my brother's VR (the grey one that used to be mine), after returning from E38 last weekend. Freshly fitted with Seat Leon Cupra R 18" wheels, crystal M3 rear lights and half-wood steering wheel: I'm almost certain it was the only Mk3 at E38 on 18s!! Any suggestions for further mods? I reckon some Inpro headlamps and a 'zorst next...

    Do the cams have increased lift as well as duration? If they are the same profile & lift as the Schrick ones then this is an absolute bargain!

    I think I'll install new repeaters somewhere on the side of the car, just to be safe. Might put them on the side rubbing strip like on that Audi A8 - I haven't seen that done on a Mk3 Golf before... Still in awe of that sparkling blackberry paintwork. I'd sell my granny to have the cab painted in that colour. Trouble is, for the price of a colour change, one sold granny probably wouldn't cover it.

    Yes, always go for genuine body panels. Copy ones never fit right. The thing is, the copy manufacturers COULD make them fit perfectly, but VW don't allow them to (Patent laws & stuff). The only reason is that VW are protecting their own interests - think about all the money they make from insurance repairs etc...

    Does anyone know the best place to go for second-hand personalised registrations, specifically ones that aren't in the normal 1-20 range. I'm after *601 FVR (star can be anything up to L) ... Would it be possible to find someone with such a plate and make them an offer?

    I don't know if anyone else in the VR6OC has tried a tubular manifold yet. Please let us know if it makes much difference!

    The wiring won't be there. Should be possible to get the required loom from a breakers though. While you're there, you'll also need a new headlamp switch, as the switch for the front fogs is built into this. Good luck!

    Lovely paint finish & body mods. Front end looks very similar to what I'm doing with mine. I wanted to remove the side repeaters from my front wings too, but I've been told that the car will fail an MOT if it doesn't have any side repeaters. Is this true?

    Go with 205/40/17 tyres and you won't get any rubbing with a 7x17" wheel. Maybe a little at the rear when you've got 2 people in the back, but that's about it. Interestingly enough, I've found that certain makes of tyres are more prone to rubbing than others. Toyo Proxes T1-S don't rub at all, whereas Yokohama A539s rub loads. Same size in both cases, 205/40/17...

    I can't see any reason why the Govt. can't use fuel tax as a "buffer" against fluctuating oil prices, so that we pay less tax when the price is high. Or just lower the tax across the board so that they don't come under fire every time there is a hike in the oil price. They're just being damn greedy. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more protests. Public Transport is of no use to me because my daily commute is "orbital" and trains/buses only serve "radial" routes into and out of London.

    Mine isn't 100% straight, but you can't tell unless you get up really close :-)
