What are those wheels, by the way? Are they US imports? Never seen them before and they look great - make the car look like it's doing 120mph when standing still!!

The VW Auto box has it's own ECU, so any modifications would need to be made there. It might be worth searching the VWVortex forum (www.vwvortex.com) for this subject, as VR6 autos are much more common over there in the US.

The water pump went on mine, and as Nerih says, I got water leaking out of the little "bypass" hole just underneath it. I also got loud squealing noises. The little hole at the top of the expansion tank is a pressure relief valve. It's designed to vent steam if the pressure in the coolant system gets too high. Typically this will happen: 1. In an overheat situation 2. When combustion gases are leaking into the coolant system, applying additional pressure (usually the fault of the headgasket) (2) is very unlikely in your case, since the headgasket has just been replaced! I'd try replacing th

I used Isopon P40 glass fibre filler is to fill the swage line, then 3 layers of fine, flexible filler (I used Isopon bumper fill) over the top, sanding down with 320 grit between each layer. I left the priming, prepping & painting to a bodyshop. I've yet to see the end result, but if it looks anything like Pete's bumper above, I'll be well happy.

A Heat gun on a **LOW** setting is perfect for this. If you don't have a heat gun, the girlfriend/wife's hairdryer will do!!!

out with the BLUE in with the BLACK
antera309 replied to stockers's topic in Members Rides and Event Photos
Ahh, those pictures bring back memories!!! LOL Blue interior looks sooo dated IMO. I bet you're so glad you managed to swap it out so cheaply! Wierdly enough, the Americans love the blue interiors as they were never available over there. You might be able to find a US buyer for all your old blue trim if you still have it, and it's in good condition. -
I got a foot rest with my beige interior, although this was from an auto. It fits fine with the manual pedals though so I kept it! I'll see if I can read a part number off it when the car comes out of the bodyshop.

That's a VERY good figure for a standard VR. Usually you need a chip/remap to get that much! And the Golf VR6 Syncro was never available in the UK unfortunately. The ones owned by people on here are all LHD imports from Germany.

The 190BHP 2.9 engine was fitted to the Corrado VR6 and Syncro (4x4) versions of the Golf & Passat VR6 in Europe. All other VR6s (including all FWD Golfs) use the 174BHP 2.8 unit. VW's Official 0-60 times for the Golf VR6 are very conservative, and it is quite possible that Evo magazine managed to better the official figure when they tested the car. Likewise, the 174BHP power figure is conservative and people often find that their completely standard VRs make more than 180BHP on the rollers.

Awesome. Probably the most complete modded 'rado I've ever seen. Engine install looks almost factory, and I love the way you've left a nice space there for a 'charger!! ;-)

Blown Heater Matrix!!! Where Do I start?
antera309 replied to Hoppa's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Mk3 heater matrixes are readily available second-hand. I'm not sure whether you will need to remove the dash to change it, but even if you do, it's not that big of a deal. Once you've replaced it, it might be a good idea to get the coolant system pressure tested. It might be overpressurising. -
Car looks very clean, mate. I fitted Koni adjustables with GMax springs. With the Konis set 1/4 turn from soft I get a nice comfy ride and good handling too. Avoid the cheap suspension kits from GSF etc as these give a very crashy ride. Lots of people rate the Koni & FK coilover kits very highly, but I've never tried 'em.

If I had a LHD syncro, I'd be well tempted to go turbocharged. I'm sure one of the many tuners in th UK would be able to help you with the map, even if EIP couldn't supply a suitable one. Obviously, you would need to make sure the engine/gearbox can handle the torque increase, but the precautions would be the same as fitting, say, a stage 3 s/c kit. Just think about all those Scoobies & Evos you'd be able to blow away!!! Go for it!

I've heard nothing but good things about the Quaife Diff for the VR. Even with a pretty standard engine I'm told the lower F/D and limited slip makes a HUGE difference to the all-important 0-100 time. Definitely somthing that's on my shopping list. With the box off, timimg chains can be done at the same time for not much extra, so there's a cost saving there if your chains are due for renewal anyway.

ABS removed - now over-servoed
antera309 replied to trackman's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
ABS/Non-ABS Mk3s do have different servos, so the obvious thing to try would be a second-hand brake servo from a Mk3 without ABS, from a base-spec CL or whatever. -

101K miles big mileage for a VR6
antera309 replied to ThermalP4's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
My brother's VR is on 110,000 miles now. It still pulls like a train and recorded 185BHP on the rollers last week (with NO engine mods!). I remember talking with Vince about the huge variations in reliability & power between similar mileage VR6 engines - apparently they suffer from Monday engine / Friday engine syndrome: One engine will produce more than 10BHP over standard and go on to 250k miles with no major problems, while another will be nothing but trouble, regardless of how well it's looked after. Luck of the draw, in other words. -
I just had the air-con in my runabout regassed at a Vauxhall main dealer and this came to

Grill ! What do you think, comments please before i do it
antera309 replied to jezmoz's topic in Bodywork and Styling
Nothing wrong with doing cheap mods to a standard car. This is how I started! Little things like colour coding the door handles, swapping the grille and fitting aftermarket lights can smarten up an older Mk3 no end. Lowering is still the most essential mod on these cars, tho. -

Black slats work well with the white. -
I've been told that fitting one of these and removing the "trumpet" from inside the airbox will give a power increase. I've done these mods on mine. I can't verify the power claims with RR figures, but it definitely felt more responsive and sounds a lot better.

Engine mounts - where to buy?
antera309 replied to antera309's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Do Vibra-Technics supply direct? -
Is it a replacement panel filter or a cone?
