I had the same problem a few months back. Found the cause of the problem quite quickly - my dozy bint of a girlfriend had used the car and left one of the windows open, just before a heavy rain storm. grrrrr...

Ultimatetune, please stop tempting me to spend all my money!!! !lol Seriously though, those prices are very good.

The latch assembly is easy to swap out, so go ahead and get one from a scrappy. Don't worry about the central locking this is just done by a solenoid with a pin that goes through a hole in the lock mecanism, which you aren't touching - you are only replacing the latch.

Yes, it is a common problem. First, check that the "child lockout" switch for the rear windows (the button between the rear window switches on the dash) is pushed IN and re-test. If it still doesn't work, stick your key in the driver's side lock (with the door closed), turn it to the "unlock" position and hold it there. You should see that all your windows wind down fine after 2-3 seconds. Turn the key to the "lock" position and hold, and all the windows should wind back up. This is a good way to eliminate the motors/mechanisms as the cause of your problem. If all the windows work when you d

It could be a failed headgasket or a broken oil cooler. I guess a blocked radiator could cause it too, but this would also cause overpressurising of the coolant system, resulting in coolant ejecting itself from the pressure relief valve on the expansion tank. This makes a nasty white mess over that side of the engine bay, so it's pretty hard to miss. Headgasket failure can also cause overpressuring, but not always - it depends which part of the gasket has failed. I'd say start with the oil cooler 'cos it's a cheap part and relatively simple to change. Be sure to fit new rubber seals when ch

Yes, you have to tie up the cam chain to keep it located on the correct teeth on the idler sprocket (which is right down inside the engine). A piece of wire looped round the chain and the bonnet crossmember does the job. Make some alignment marks on cam sprokets & chain before you take the sprockets off. Make sure the marks line back up when you refit the sprockets and that takes care of the timing.

How do you get a motorbike into a MK3 without opening the door?

Bloody Hell!!!! -
Still inconclusive. Plugging a reader into the diagnostic port is the only way.

Strictly Dubs' Vento VR6 has Galaxy handles fitted.

The original plan with mine was to do an R32-look with the Mk4 front end. It's ended up as a sort of Mk4/Mk3 hybrid, but looks better for it, I reckon. The trick with Golfs is to make them look as individual as possible, while still looking sorta "factory". Not as easy as it sounds!!
-
Where did you get the bolts from, Kev?
-
Ford Galaxy handles are identical to the Polo Mk4 ones.
-
It's more likely to be a wheel sensor than anything else, but the valves in the ABS pump can also fail, meaning replacement of the pump. The only way you can tell is plug VAG-COM or a code reader into it and check the fault codes.
-
Loads of people have fitted these without any problems. As long as you have the door cards off and the windows open while fitting them, you can't go wrong.
-
They're part of the body. :-)
-
That's correct, no mods are required to fit them to later model (oval indicators) mk3s. For early type mk3s, the opening pin inside the door needs to be bent slightly in order for the handle to work reliably.

Expalin this to me Nick......don't understand? Just that VR6 engines vary greatly in standard power output and reliability from one car to another. Test drive as many VRs as you can and you will see that some seem quicker than others. They don't just seem quicker - they actually are!

the golf vr6 is too heavy

Fit a 3.68 final drive and a Quaife ATB diff. This will enable you to better use the VR6's superior torque off the line. Corsas & Novas will no longer be a problem. Enjoy! -
I haven't compared the hoses on the car to the ones on the 312mm brakes as yet. Assuming the 280mm hoses don't fit, a Goodridge kit for a 1996-onwards Golf VR6 should do the job, then?

URGENT HELP - worst nightmare come true
antera309 replied to cadguy77's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
For the main bearings & big ends to get torn up and the engine to subsequently sieze, I'd say it was running with inadequate oil pressure, possibly due to an oil pump failure, or a drastically low oil level due to a leak. Oil pump failures are very rare on VR6s, but any moving part can fail at the end of the day. I'm surprised the dashboard oil light never made an appearance prior to the engine failing. Your best option is to get hold of a second hand VR6 engine (there are several VRs breaking at the moment), fit new timing chains and a new clutch to it and get it bolted in. There are sev -
Designa Dubs in Basingstoke made a suitable pair of anodised s/s spacers up for my TT 312mm brakes, they should still have the measurements for them if anyone else needs some making up. They also told me that longer carrier-to-hub bolts are not required, although info I've read on various VW forums indicates otherwise. I'll have to go back to Designa if the bolts I got with the brakes turn out to be too short. As regards hoses, I have the original hoses on the car (VR6 280mm), plus the hoses from the Audi TT that came with the brakes. I have the banjo bolts for both. Are we saying that I wo

I love that photo of the cars lined up in the alley. All you need now is a Mk2 Rallye, a Mk1 Campaign and a slightly wider alley....
