  1. Looks mean and agressive, but kinda stealthy as well! Interior looks spotless too! Very nice!
  2. This is covered in the new FAQ section: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?4002
  3. They are Polo mk4 handles. The same handles are also fitted to pre-1999 VW Sharans & Ford Galaxys.
  4. If it's a mk4 cabrio, it will have a fabric roof, as opposed to the vinyl one. Autoglym's convertible roof care kit (containing cleaner and wax/protector) is excellent on fabric roofs. The cleaner gets all the dirt off and the wax/protector prevents new dirt sticking & helps to prevent fade. Don't use a pressure washer / jetwash on your roof as this will make the fading worse.
  5. What fuel economy should I expect from my Golf VR6? From the experience of the VR6OC's members, the average fuel consumption figures for a standard (or lightly modified) VR6 are: Urban: 19-24mpg Motorway: 27-31mpg Depending on how hard it is being driven!!
  6. Strictly Dubs can get hold of the Fidanza uprated ones. http://www.strictlydubs.co.uk/ For a standard Sachs clucth, go to: http://www.gsfcarparts.com or http://www.eurocarparts.com/
  7. It's worth doing if your engine is very high mileage and needs a rebore anyway.
  8. I heard that the ECU connection is just to raise the idle speed when the air con is switched on. Might be wrong though. At any rate, if you have access to a whole donor car and the OBD level matches, you could just transplant the engine & ECU wiring looms along with everything else. Seeing as you have to take the dash off anyway, it wouldn't be a lot of extra work.
  9. It is fine to re-use the old nuts, but be VERY careful when tightening them - if you go much above the recommended torque setting you'll snap the studs. Also, the bearing caps have to go back on EXACTLY as they came off, both position and orientation. I found it easiest to lay them on a piece of paper one by one as I removed them, in the exact positions & orientation as they came off the engine.
  10. 15ft-lb if I remember rightly. You need to use a SMALL torque wrench for them - it is very easy to overtighten and snap the studs.
  11. I can tell you for sure if you can give me the engine number off it. It's stamped on the engine block at the belt end, just below where the head joins the block.
  12. Moving to a specialist Insurance broker like HIC or Greenlight will help keep the insurance costs down once you go supercharged. Fitting the kit is fairly straightforward, but you will need to budget an extra £350 for the required ECU remap. AMD or Stealth racing can do this for you.
  13. A stock Sachs clutch should be OK for 280BHP if using the car on the road. For track/dragstrip use, Fidanza uprated clutches come highly recommended.
  14. Yeah, cane it like fook from cold every day, put crappy oil in it and never check the level, fill the coolant system with radweld, blow the gearbox up, then sell the engine to someone called Nick for a VR cabrio conversion.
  15. The bottom chain, tensioner & runner are the same on all VR6s. The top chain, tensioner, tensioner bolt and guide are specific to OBD1/OBD2. OBD1 has a doube-row chain, OBD2 has a single row one. All corrado 2.9 engines are OBD1 and should have the double-row chain.
  16. When the VR engine was fitted to my cabrio, we were left with one disconnected red/yellow wire behind the fusebox which had to be connected to +12V before the ECU would power up. Once this was done, the ECU had to be re-set using VAG-COM in order for the fuel pump to go through the proper priming process when the ignition was turned on.
  17. That's the VF-Engineering kit, based on the Vortech V-9 charger and made in the USA. It is the most widely-used VR6 supercharger kit out there, with hundreds of successful installations so far. A number of us bought the Stage 2, 280BHP version on a group buy earlier this year. The progress of peoples' installations is being covered in the following thread: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?104063.130 I have one of these kits sitting in front of me in a cardboard box right now. The build quality of all the bits looks great, but that's about all I can say until it's
  18. I tell you one thing, owners of other marques don't have it this good. I've just come off the migweb.co.uk forum (the Vauxhall equivalent of CGTI) where I've been trying to find out where the heater blower relay was on my girlfriend's Corsa. After searching the forums thoroughly for the answer, I put up a post asking for some help. My post sat there for two weeks, completely ignored. In the end I had to spend £18 on a haynes manual just to find out where one bloody relay was located. That would never happen here. Or on Edition 38, the-corrado-dot-net or VWVortex either come to think of i
  19. They need to call the exterminators for that one. Looks pretty major.
  20. I am told that the bulkhead centre section has to be changed to convert a non-aircon car to aircon, and the ETKA parts catalogue bears this out. Presumably the difference is just holes for the aircon pipework and mounting points for the different interior heater blower unit. It might be possible to modify your existing bulkhead centre section, but some cutting & welding might be required. Other than this, it is indeed just a matter of transferring all the aircon components and pipework from one car to the other.
  21. Yep, a wet nitrous kit. Red for fuel, blue for laughing gas. When you've got kit like that under the bonnet, you can afford to be a bit brash with the styling, I reckon. I bet it sounds absolutely awesome for starters. Wonder what BHP its putting out?
  22. Some good points raised there, Steve. And as you can see, you're not alone. We appreciate your feedback and you can rest assured that keeping the site good-natured and a fun place to visit is our top priority right now. We are in a bit of a transitionary period at the moment, between being a bunch of people & a website, and something more substantial. This is something that all the large VW sites like Vortex & E38 had to go through themselves at some point. A major revamp is imminent, both to the layout of the site and the way in which it is moderated. We've got all sorts of excitin
  23. For the same price as a 180 GTi Anniversary, you can buy a 4Motion and supercharge it. 300+ BHP and lovely noises. Yummy!
  24. Sounds to me like no-one is interested in reprimanding the idiot kids that almost killed that girl. Instead, efforts are being concentrated on the website because there's a chance of some comp£nsation there. Sad state of affairs. I liked the comment posted about the "Darwin Award", natural selection and the terminally stupid...
