  1. You don't need to replace all your existing side strips with the ones from a CL. All you need are the ones that go on the rear quarter panels. The CL ones are 63mm long, as opposed to the 53mm ones you have. Euro Car Parts do 'em.
  2. The easiest way is to buy one of these: https://ssl.kundenserver.de/s36642304.shoplite.de/sess/utn;jsessionid=1544c405a95c7b9/shopdata/0020_Spoiler/0140_VW/0030_Golf3/product_details.shopscript?article=0150_Ingo%2BNoak%2BTuning%2B-%2Bfrontbumper%2B%3D28ine-140038%3D29 Get it sprayed. Job done.
  3. If you change those s to lower-case, the pics will appear!
  4. Well, the first thing to do is check your plugs and leads. If one of your plugs has much more black soot on it than the others, chances are that's the cylinder that's misfiring. Unless the plugs have recently been changed anyway, change them. For the leads, look for splits in the rubber boots at the spark plug end. Run the car in the dark and look for electrical sparks around the spark plug holes and coil pack (I assume your VR is a coilpack model, yes?). The presence of sparks in one place indicates a problem in that area. If you replace the plugs and leads and still have problems then you
  5. Sounds like the same misfiring problem I have. It only happens below 1500RPM, yes?
  6. I quite fancy a retrim doing on my steering wheel now! I could have the stitching done in light beige to match my seats!
  7. Thread moved to electrical section. The quote of £45 doesn't sound too bad compared to what VW charge mk4 & mk5 owners for key recodes. They cost well over £100.
  8. Is it a standard wheel that's been retrimmed? If so, the standard of the work looks top notch!
  9. Thread moved to the Bodywork section. I got several quotes for the smoothing, tidy & respray on mine and none came to less than £1900, although it seems to be more expensive here in the South. If I remember rightly VR6Pete got his respray + mods done (to a very high standard) in Stoke for about £1400. £1000 is roughly what I'd expect to pay for a straight respray with no mods or dent repair, so if he's offering to do the lot for that, and he's good, then it's a bargain. Have a chat to him about how he plans to do the mods, and if possible get a look at some other cars he's done. Also,
  10. I go to VW shows to see modded VAG cars (Audis, Seats as well as Dubs) but have no problem with seeing other cars there if they're worth looking at. Up until 4 years ago, I was into Fords, Vauxhalls & Beemers anyway. For shows with track-based events, the more other cars the better! Mega-tuned Golfs going up against M3s, Skylines & Evos = big entertainment!!
  11. A very subtle variation on the "bad boy" bonnet there. Very nice! My recommendation would be to have the silver internals in the headlights painted black and fit a 3-bar badgeless grille. I look forward to seeing how it progresses!!
  12. Hi Drop top VR6! Firstly, welcome to the VR6OC forum!! It's good to see someone else doing a modded mk3 cabrio - there are so few of them about! I think mine was the only one at Inters this year!!! So the engine is a 1993, yes? What year is the cabrio? My Cabrio was a 1994-model 1.8 8v pre-conversion and I fitted a 1995 VR6 OBD1 engine. I chose an OBD1 engine on Strictly Dubs' advice - they always recommend you go with an OBD1 engine into a pre-1995 car or an OBD2 engine for a post-1995 car. It makes the wiring job a lot easier if you match OBD between the car and engine. From what you des
  13. Get the bonnet out of direct sunlight and wait for it to cool down, then treat the area with a mild cutting paste followed by some polish and finish off with wax. It should come up good as new. You can use Autoglym Paint Renovator/SRP/EGP as GTAiii says, or Meguirs 3-stage paint treatment. One more point to note when using T-cut. If your paintwork is metallic, you MUST use T-Cut metallic (blue bottle) NOT normal T-Cut (red bottle) or you will suffer exactly the sort of smears you describe. The chemical composition of metallic paint is actually different to thet of solid colours, so you have
  14. Perhaps you're right, Pete. But by that time, I had entered the "Knucklehead zone" - a place where time, space and good advice have no meaning. I blame it on the heat. :^)
  15. Russ_VR6, VAG-COM comes up clear. No sign of any green mold or residue on the engine connectors.
  16. Blasting my engine with enough water to fill an olympic-sized swimming pool was not as thrilling as doing 165MPH, but it was still fun. It was almost like a revenge attack for all the pain and grief that engine has caused me over the last 12 months. Sorry to hear about your engine popping though, riggsvr6. Hope you manage to get it sorted (if you haven't already!). And forget the Police. I'm just crossing my fingers that no-one from the water board reads this thread!!! :-d
  17. ME, for f*cking up my car's ignition system by jet-washing the engine bay... I can't find the distraught, sobbing and suicidal smiley, so these will have to do: :-( :-( :-( With the amount of coolant leaks I suffered last year, my engine bay was in a bit of a state. I mean, it was really bad. So I sat there looking at my pink & white speckled engine, then I noticed my nice new pressure washer sitting in the corner of the garage. A knuckle-head plan was born. And it gets better! Figuring that HT ignition components + water was something of a bad idea, I decided to remove the coil pac
  18. Awesome. The mounting position of that charger is, if anything, better than that of the Vortech/Z-Eng kits - it's right at the front of the engine where it gets blasted with lots of cold air... Just like on a G60. So how much does the kit cost then?
  19. Take your pick from any of the images on this page: http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a174/antera309/Nicks%20VR6%20Cabrio%20Project/GTI%20International%20Show%20Jun%2006/ If you want hi-res versions of any of them I can email them to you.
