  1. ok, your chassis no will be on your registration document pete. they only use the later bit of it from I-PB or I-PW (or something like that) on etka. i've had a look on etka page 927-00 and the illustration is for the early teves 04 braking system (for obd1 cars), though it shows part no's for the later teves 20 system (obd2). i'm pretty sure yours is a '97 pete, in which case the control module is under the abs pump under the bonnet, not under the rear seats (like '93 on obd1/teves 04 cars) or under the passenger footwall carpet (like '92 obd1 teves 04 cars). i've also been reading my bentle
  2. what illustration are you people lookin at? and what part are you after pete? i thought the late cars had the abs control unit by the servo?
  3. my upper tensioner blade has gone through the rivets, and the metal is sort of loose on from one end of the plastic!
  4. i've not had a speedo for ages, changed everything except the cog in the 'box and the wiring...still no speedo! all you need to know is this... 30mph = 2000rpm in 3rd, 40mph = 2000rpm in 4th, 50mph = 2000rpm in 5th, 60mph = 2400rpm in 5th, 70mph = 2800rpm in 5th. i ahve it on a note stuck over the speedo for quick reference...but you dont need it...you'll find you know what speed you're doin! 5. my vr6 is like that now! i've worked out why. everyone told me loads of camber made a golf twitchy, but when i had it set the car didn't feel twitchy at all. but the wishbone bushes were worn out. now i've got poly bushes on, all the geometry is stayin where it should, and thus its twitchy. but i'm really startin to love it! you can steer the car on the pedals beutifully now. i'm a 'pedal' driver, as oppose to a 'steering' driver (i.e. i use the pedals to move the car around in corners, and keep the wheel pretty still, a la alain prost/jenson button. other drivers use loads of steering input
  6. interesting. where do you go to get it skimmed (by an expert)? i'm doing the chains, gonna put a new clutch in as well (and 'box and engine mounts) very soon. may as well get it skimmed then.
  7. you'd be sorry if it broke. would everyone like to knwo what to do? check the upper tensioner blade....all you have to do is remove the inlet, cam cover, remove coilpack, remove upper tensioner bolt and then remove the cover. you'll be able to see the blade...if its stating to wear through...replace the lot.
  8. i'd say a good quality o.e. one is best. its not like vr6's are hard on their clutches. sachs or LUX make one for £70.
  9. you could try speaking to race teams that are nearby...they certainly have the facilities and know-how to do a perfect job. but you'll need to tell them what settings to go for. maybe try typing rally preparation into yell.com as well.
  10. well, its still been flused, so you haven't wasted doing that. but you will prob need new coolant/antifreeze...unless you're really quick! lol you're probably supposed to drain the coolant properly first though, using the plug on the black tube above the oil filter.
  11. it is possible to check your camber yourself if you have a perfectly flat ground, a spirit level, some string, and a measuring tape...i think, i've worked it out that i could check it, but i dont have a flat bit of groud.
  12. oh, i found the non-abs puntos (both old and new shape) to be really good on the brakes...but i like to steer the car with the brakes! lol i can keep hold of the rear end...its understeer that scares the f88k out of me.
  13. check they aren't getting confused and thinking its got a cambelt.
  14. if you can get them done for that ' date='im coming too !!!![/quote'] crikey...thats a very good price. though you probably can go to 100k without worrying to much. and the chains won't break...the tensioner blade will, cause ing the chain to go scrap and jump some teeth, which will cause the valves to hit the pistons. probably only damaging valve's...so new head.
  15. yep, yep...i suspect having never done it myself!
  16. i'd deffo say mod the turbo kit instead. the pushrod goes through the servo in to the MC. you will loose shit loads of pedal feel and brake performance if you relocate it such as novas do. the 280's do have poor instant pedal feel...my girlie almost nudged my vr6 into a wall cause of it...and i smack my head on the windscreen the first time i brake in her polo! i've raced cars without servos (such as the one in my sig), and they require shit loads of pedal effort...thought its not so bad when you havce the brakes warm (and by warm, i mean so hot that the brake smell intoxicates you!), and its
  17. yep, was about to say that. but i#m sure phatvr6 said it wasn't a big deal to switch between the two...though he may have been talkin about dizzy to coilpack.
  18. yeah, usually braking hard but not quite hard enough to have the abs kicking in on the front wheels is the best way to stop quick (if thats what you mean), but sometimes you get the system pushing the pedal slightly when the rears start to lock...no need to keep short of that point. if the rear steps out it'll only go a certain way before the abs scoops it up...usually. the abs on my vr6 is the best sytem i've ever had on one of my own cars...buts its still not perfect, i've had times where i've had to come off the brakes to prevent the car swapping ends! but then i don't brake like the averag
  19. i think i know the one you're tallki about...it doesn't include ecu does it? i reckon you should take everything off it at the manifolds, and use your current stuff...and in my mind that should work. it'll then be an obd1 engine.
  20. i can't imagine they're very nice seats...i've yet to find a nice renault seat. i'd say sell them on ebay for a profit...but this is just my opinion, so i'll try and say somehting constructive... you'd prob need to cut the frame off them and weld on a mkIII frame.
  21. are they yours by any chance?
  22. nah, a 16v thats mildly nodded like his will have a vr6 upto about 100mph, then the vr6 will readress the balance...but who cares really?! i even had an 8v keepin up with me the other night (its far from standard tho) he also goes through a gearbox each month! lol [ Edited Thu Jun 17 2004, 03:57PM ]
