  1. are the 288mm calipers exactly the same as mkIII 288mm calipers (ie they don't need spacers or anything)?
  2. i shoudn't really complain i suppose, the bodywork on mine is really good for the mileage, its not perfect, but i've being payin a lot of attention to other peoples k plate vr6/gti mkIII's and they mostly seem to be in a right mess. i don't really have any rust issues (touch wood), and i have no scratches as all. a couple of dings and some stonechips is it really.
  3. i seem to be very good at pipping people (who then turn out to be people i know off forums) at the last second on auctions...and i don't use any fancy software! my theory is never bid until the last 2 mins, otherwise you'll end up pushing the price up as people have time to respond (then you have to, then they do again, etc)
  4. you had the knowledge of vr6's that you have now? i'd have never bought one with more than 70k on it, for the fact that timing chains (well, tensioners and runners at least) have to be replaced at about 120k, and this requires 'box removal. all i heard when i was looking for one was that they rarely need changing! i'd also have made sure it didn't have half as many things wearing out as mine does. i suppose i should be thankful that upto this point i'd had it for a year with no problems...then they all hit! i'm now at the point of no return, i've spent so much on it, its better to spend a few
  5. i'm getting used to it now, and enjoying the challenge! lol tracking should be perfect, but i'll get it checked when i get around to it.
  6. can't answer yor q's, but i have another caliper related question. i walked past a mkIV today (i ithink it was a gt tdi) and the calipers look very very similar to late mkIII vr6 ones (288mm)....anyone know if they are the same? and which models have 288mm?
  7. whats the symptoms if its screwing up?
  8. nah, puntos slide progressively...this ain't progressive. i'm gonna presume its that the tyres aren't bedded in yet...first time i've had brand new tyres on the golf. and mine are the purple powerflex bushes by the way.
  9. anyone got powerflex bushes on their vr6? i fitted mine, and the car is now really nervous and twitchy. i'd originally put it down to new tyres not being bedded in, but its quite rediculous! now, as some of you may know, i have done a bit of racing, and a twitchy car doesn't usually scare me, but this is quite rediculous. i can't even lift smoothly on a gentle curve whilst at 'normal person' speeds with out the rear getting unsettled. also any bump on even a slight curve is a problem. if i get a smooth road surface, i still get massive turn in oversteer (and that with super smooth steering inp
  10. anyone know of anywhere that supplies recon'd engines and boxes for the vr6?
  11. yep, mine has...but its not really a problem apparantly...the chain will never snap.
  12. ebay by per chance? how much? i won't tell you that it really wouldn't cost that much to get yours chromed.
  13. ok, i need a well functioning gearbox ASAP. if anyone goes to a scrappy with a vr, can you wiggle the stick around and see if it feels 'tight' please, then let me know. i need to get one within a month, to have it (and the timing chain) done before the nurburgring trip in early aug.
  14. i'd go for newspeed instead, as a)there options on how thick a bar you get, b)the rear is adjustabel, and c)they come with a full fitting kit including front arb links (a weak spot on the vr6, and using an uprated car with o.e. links (as the eibachs require) will put more stress on them)
  15. getting wheels diamond cut is really cheap...a mate got it done for £30 a wheel, and the finish is perfection, very cool!
  16. i doubt it...only cars i know of that do this are very new top end cars, and WRC cars!
  17. but pulls well at lowe rpm's...i.e. no winding up?
  18. a spanner on the place you're supposed to hold them? the tool wouldn't hold the cams, it'd break.
  19. i won't bother telling you again that i'll take the 'box...oops, i did it again! lol
  20. i tell you what, if your car is in good condition i'll swap you for my vr6 which has them fitted lol
  21. i juts wish they'd put it at the other side of the bleedin engine, so it would be simple to reaplce. its the tensioner guide blade that'll fail...and mine's lookin pretty worn (120k).
  22. you don't really need them...its visable to the eye
