  1. keele, she drives a mint green polo glx (identical to 16v's)
  2. i should be back up there at some point before xmas (but after sept - girlies at uni up there, on summer hols now tho)
  3. i had it, click on tools, advanced, then tick the check box that says disable script debugging
  4. you have to have the revs over 4k, and then slip the clutch as much as you dare to get a good start.
  5. PM markgolf or phatvr6 is the best idea i'd say.
  6. i suppose its easy to wheelspin if you wanna...i have to remember i am much smoother on the controls than the average person (not meaning to be big headed...many a race instructor has said it tho), so i subconciously avoid wheelspin.
  7. i would never expect huge gains from a chip...it'll basically makje the car a little smoother, thats about it. spend it on suspension, or ARB's...will make more difference to the A to B time than a chip i'd say.
  8. i have never been beaten off the lights in my vr6! tyres make or break the vr6....bad ones make it so hard to launch, good ones make it simple and effortless. when i bought my highlne alloys they had fulda's on, and it whelspan very easily. once decent tyres were on it was back to how it was before, very little wheelspin.
  9. mine doesn't whine, and is very smooth...which is why i thought i had a diff at first! it also works over 3k rpm...or i have enough grip from my tyres then.
  10. i believe engines can be swapped from coilpack to dizzy and vice versa quite easily. i'm sure mr. phatvr6 was saying about it on cgti a long time ago.
  11. whats isze wheels have you got them under? if you have 17"s, would be interesting to try and fit some other wheels on the car to see what fits, such as 16" anni wheels, or highline bbs's
  12. just get a new original one...ones from other cars will look weird. only thing worth doing is getting rid completely...but then you have a switch on the stalk that does nothing...this would bug me. unless you can use the wiper stalk from a cabrio?!
  13. obd stands for on board diagnostics. basically its different engine managment, the later one (obd2) gives more info through vag-com or 1551 tool (which is what the dealers have). they switched from obd1 to obd2 end of '95. they also added a few other upgrades, such as bigger brakes, lost the arch covers on vr6's, colour coded the top of the bumpers, and changed the shape of the side repeaters. all highlines are obd2. to be fair, both obd1 and obd2 have their good points. obd1 gets EDL, and doesn't require vag-com for as much stuff...so is better for someone who likes to fiddle with their car t
  14. trust me you'll be able to do it yourself...is very easy go on amazon.co.uk and buy a bentley manual, then folow the instructions it says.
  15. i alsways wax, and never bother drying the streaks off as the wax gets rid of them for me
  16. if you have probs in the wet...buy a set of uniroyal rallye 540's...you'll be amazed at the difference. but mina's correct, the right foot is the best form of traction control. a driver can be better than a computer. it took the f1 guys a fair while to perfect their systems, when they allowed it again in '00 (i think) schumi used to alkways qualify with it switched off (he'd then race with it on as it eliminated a risk of an error) as he could ultimatly do a quicker lap without...but one of the reasons is that he steers the car with the pedals (like i do)...if you know what i mean.
  17. i should've actually sai...zymol (form halfords) is the best stuff that the average person can afford. if you're loaded go for either proper zymol (£40 a tub), or even better is swissol (£70 a tub).
  18. ok. i be the expert on this i use zymol shampoo and zymol cleaner wax from halfords. i've used mnost other products over the years and found it the best. autoglym doesn't give as shiny a finish, and is harder work to use. meguiers creates a lot of dust and doesn't make as shiny. always read the back of the bottle and follow the instructions exactly...different waxes require different techniques. if you use decent shampoo all the dirt should come off. if a bird ever does its business on the car get it off immediatly, it damages the paint. as for extra stuff, autoglym fast glass is my preferd
  19. are u sure ? its controled by the abs computer, on obd1's its under the rear seat, where as they moved it to under the bonnet on the obd2's and dropped the edl (maybe to save space, i dunno).
  20. its not a bad way to make money actually..i might do it...only costs about a tenner prob to get it chromed.
  21. EDL is kind of a cross between traction control and a diff...it applies the brake to the inside wheel only. it works upto about 40mph. it does make a hell of a lot of difference actually...but also does the type of tyres you have on the car. i get very little wheelspin. i'm not 100% sure, but i think EDL is only on OBD1 cars, hence later ones spin the wheels more.
  22. what about the one you take off the car?
