ok, i ended up taking it to a garage...gonna be a monster labour bill as they had to take the 'box of again. found it was 4 teeth out at the bottom (which i don't understand as i'm sure it was correct). but anyway, it should be back sweet as soon.
288's are normally quite good...have you checked the condition of the discs and pads? and are they bled properly (is the pedal squishy)? you can upgrade to 312mm if you have 17" wheels. (TT carriers, spacers, TT discs, and your existing calipers)
if its and obd1 (upto, and inc, M plate) best upgarde is to fit later obd2 (N plate on) brakes. obd1 had 280mm, obd2 288mm. performance discs and pads are only worthwhile if you have brake fade problems, as they are worse when cold.
did indeedy... 2 metres of IHS600 at £10ish a metre, 2 hose finishers anodised blue (dunno part no. but £5ish each) for visible end, and two normal hose clips for the hidden ends. is a bit fiddly to fit, but worth it.
yep..compression test. you dont wanna take the vr6 apart or you could get it wrong like i just did...i'll still come out even on if i'd taken it to the garage in the first place hopefully mind.
most of the polishes stuff is on an exchange basis so you have to send them your one before they send it. tbh it don't cost much to get stuff chromed. if you can be without your car for a short while.
is not really a big deal actually..the stuff i got even clips into the cable guides easily as well. just make sure you put it throught all the guides before cutting it. oh, and put masking/duct/insulation tape round the braid before sawing through it, it likes to fray.
i just fitted some...8mm make sure its high pressure hose as well...very important that. if they only sell it in metres you'll need 2 metres (you'll have some spare)...its really awkward to fit, especially if you use the anodised hose finishers. but looks great. [ Edited Tue Aug 03 2004, 03:33PM ]
er....nova SR, then another, then another, then another, then a w plate punto sporting, then the vr6. did have a cavalier for a short while as a money making project.
you could always fit the earlier one...in fact i'm sure i've heard of somewhere selling brand new ones, already chromed for around £120. no idea where tho! from my experience all performance exhausts increase noise...even powerflow custom made ones (and even if you ask for a silent one). i'm prepared to be proved wrong, but i'll only believe it when i hear it with my own ears.
180bhp sounds standard to me...a few bhp either way is quite common on all cars. i think the obd2's extra power is often offset by the addition of aircon...i know that a mates highline is certainly no faster than my obd1...in fact, one friend is adament that mine is quicker!
