  1. yeah, you all know tornado red is the fastest colour hehe
  2. looks as though its leaking from the auxiliary water pump in exactly the same way mine did (it then blew itself apart on the 'ring) that level on muskiness is normal...but its does look fresh. may be leaking out the cam cover, or top chain cover on the first pic, and often that little hose goes on obd2's (second pic)
  3. yep, all mkIII's did...you deffo should be able to hear them. pull the grill off and see if theres a speaker under there.
  4. i don't think we'll ever truely get to the bottom of this as there is too many variable factors. at the end of the day its only a few bhp either way. i certainly wouldn't say to anyone 'don't get an obd1, get an obd2 they're more powerful'...but i might say 'don't get an obd1 as obd2's have better brakes' - thats the only big advantage i see. a good vr6 is a good vr6 at the end of the day, who cares what year it is. everyone agree thats a fair round up?
  5. its a fine line between what is a subtle mod, and what is a tacky add-on. tread carefully guys, its gotta look natural, and i'm not sure angel eyes do.
  6. lol but looking at this sites RR day results you'd have to say there is no rule.
  7. if you can work on tanks you should be fine on a vr6...its quite a simple engine mechanically...it looks very scary until you take you the inlet off then it looks like a pussy cat. get a bentley manual to help, then remove inlet manifold (just upper), coilpack, cam cover, and top chain housing and you'll be able to see the condition.
  8. no need to dig out the fireproof's...i'm in a good mood today lol. to be fair thats what you would expect, but going on the vr6oc RR day results you'd have to disagree. plus, i had a go in my mates highline the other day, totally standard, and it was noticeably slower than mine (no mods except VT mounts and drilled airbox!. now, without putting them both on an RR is hard to say whether its that mine is very healthy or if the highline is one of the less powerful ones...prob a bit of both i suspect. if mine holds together long enough i'll try and get on the next RR day...but i doubt it will a
  9. yeah, well, i was all set for getting mkIV style ones, but then every tom, dick and binliner got them, so never bothered. now i've started really liking the o.e. ones, they look very clean and to the point IMO.
  10. well, you could take the engine out, or the gearbox...its between the two basically, so either way will do the job. are your chains or runners actually worn then? have you checked them before commiting to this job?
  11. i don't think theres any right and wrong, its all down to individual taste. what do you like the most? me? i like o.e. ones, as theres too many cars with aftermarkets one on.
  12. i've done mine, though i'm not really near you. its not that hard, but is sometimes tricky to get the timing spot on afterwards.
  13. who fitted the gearbox and how recently was it, as its sounds like they may have done something incorrectly.
  14. could be MAF, or hall sender, or coilpack...as mr. mightyvr6 says best to get the fault codes checked.
  15. its not that hard, though there is a high possibility of rounded bolts (thats what happened when i did mine - had to break the housing off with crowbar (a smaller instrument would have been fine, but not as much fun! hehe) then angle grind the top off the bolt, then the rest remains undid with a monkey wrench. its pretty self explanatory to remove it, emove hoses from housing, undo allen bolts (3 of them, one is kind of hidden), remove housing. oh, you may wanna drain the coolant first (theres a drain plug on the bottom of the plastic tube that runs along front of engine, near oil filter housi
  16. get the wheels off right now...they're obviously not right and its an accident waiting to happen. then do a google search for trading standards, shouod bring up some info. i'm pretty sure as the product they've sold you is incorret they have to refund you.
  17. i think that will be the most common result. mine was not gunked up, and i'd have thought it was rare.
  18. yes, the red ones are much better quality, particularly at the plus end of the lead.
  19. its a bit ugly...anyone know how the TT footrest fixes on?
  20. i think that prob is the across the board price, but vw dealerships do vary in price sometimes (call one up north...they're usually cheaper!) i don't think you can get them elsewhere. mine cost about £110 for 6 leads.
  21. its not that hard to do a HG change on the vr6...i've done it. that was when i noticed the condition of my chain guides . only thing you'll have to do extra is to bleed the cam tensioner bolt on refitting. my head didn't need skimming.
  22. yep, its in same place on all vr6's (though on '92 cars it'll be behind dizzy, not coilpack)
  23. you can get it for £40 of amazon cant ya? also, they do come up on ebay from time to time.
