  1. Didn't the company making these go bust. I remember having a corsa a couple of years ago and had people begging for them for £450+
  2. Thanks will be careful not to break it. Just sat gathering dust I need it to be done so I can get it off to bodyshop and get the new wheels on.
  3. Cheers will make sure to remember where everything goes. Not looking forward to the bending crouching part. I can use my works computer for airbag reset. It's just the first time I have took a dash out so should be fun.
  4. Ok so hopefully after weeks of fixing other people's cars. tomorrow I finally have a few hours to work on the golf. First job on my list is dash out and replace the heater matrix. Apart from the usual screws etc.. Is there anything I should look out for.
  5. Im a Mechanic just waiting on a date for my mot tester course.
  6. I use products from a company called Nielsen purely because the valeting bay at my works use them. So I just use there stuff whenever I want the car doing I either do it myself or one the valeters usually owes me a favor.
  7. I would have a word with the previous owner and threaten to get trading standards and vosa involved if its his mate who passed it they want them on there case. He should panic and offer you some kind of compensation to try avoid it going any further
  8. Makes me laugh when a tester will just pass it like that probably got a few quid in his back pocket for it. I'm awaiting a date for my testers course and I wouldn't dream of passing a car like that. You out the put the new owner at risk which you could technically get manslaughter for. Then you risk losing your license which you lose your job then you are screwed.
  9. I would get your mate to write you a report up and and send it to trading standards.
  10. We had a similar situation a while back at work (I work for a test station). Where a friends daughter had bought a car wich had been tested the day she bought it. The car was a right mess all lights on the dash ball joints hanging out air bag had been glued into the dash wonky. We got the tester to write an official report and it was sent to trading standards the seller offered to put the car right.
  11. Sorry to jump on the thread but am I right in thinking if I put a 2.9 motor in my obd1 the wiring side will be a lot easier.
  12. We use Andrew Paige at work and euro car parts for most parts. Tps for some vag parts but if its a specialist part we use main dealers.
  13. How about Audi grey that's quite a good matte paint
  14. That's why I bought mine cheap as it needed tlc. Just finding the time is a nightmare always end up fixing someone else's car.
  15. I know the feeling I'm a mechanic myself but jut think of the money you will save. Plus you know that the job is done right if you do it yourself.
  16. Still haven't had the time to get mine sorted but not looking forward to taking the dash apart
  17. Is it a 5 door by any chance as I'm looking for a arch trim for mine
  18. I have those wheels for mine good to see what they look like on the car can't wait to get mine returned now
  19. Cool: owning a vr6 Uncool: that moment your sat next to a boy racer at the lights and you realize your in your 1.0 daily driver
  20. I was quoted over £300 to fix my water pump they day before vw festival in Leeds . Did it myself for 15 got the part trade price and made the show such relief when it was done but I learned a few new swear words that day
  21. Not much to update been busy fixing other people's cars, but had to raise the suspension so I could fit the car onto the lift at work. How it sits at the moment hopefully get a bit f spare time this weekend to fit decat pipe and sort the heater matrix out. Then it's off to a mates body shop whilst its in there I'm going to refurb my Porsche rep alloys in anthracite. Then see what finances I have and what to do next as not too sure.
  22. I never took the front end off mine or the exhaust but basically as you said the engine needs to be jacked up to get it passed the chassis. Just remove the airbox in my case had k+n so easily moved then undo engine mounts and jack engine up to gain access fairly easy to do.
  23. We always just stick 34 psi in at work the exception being a range rover or sprinter van
  24. I'm pretty lucky cos when I'm working on the vr the other half half is usually at work. But on the rare occasion when she is in the workshop with me she will help out passing tools etc.. She is slowly learning about cars but getting there
  25. I use something similar to the draper flaring tool at work brilliant bit of kit would recommend it.
