  1. Doesn't sound good if you've got metalic oil in the filter housing. Take the sump off and have a look at your big end bearings and crank to see what condition they are in. Sorry to hear it :-(
  2. I think your best bet is to start taking some of your dash apart to see if you can find the diagnostic plug(s). It must have one, because i'm sure there wouldn't be a reason to just chop those off when doing a mk3 to 2 conversion. My vr is a 1993, obd1, with a 16 pin diagnostics plug, just for reference.
  3. Its good to know there are companys out there like that. Most wouldn't even give you the time of day or any help, but posting the parts out free of charge is top customer service!
  4. What sort of history does the car have? What, if anything, has been replaced? Could be a problem with the ignition switch and/or associated relays, but i'm not 100% on that, if that side of the electrics isn't turning off properly it might drain the battery.
  5. :-#:-# Really? As long as they are there and working it shouldn't be a problem where they are, surely?
  6. Sorry, i got the wrong end of the stick! Must have been too early for my brain to function! Goodridge kits are easy enough to fit, just be prepared for some stubborn brake fittings!
  7. I think you can get them in rhd or lhd versions. When i first mocked up mine with a copy manifold there didn't seem to be alot of room for the intake pipe into the turbo because the brake master cylinder got in the way. But i'm sure loads of people have got around the problem. If you want a pedal box then why not? Theres a cheap used one on ebay atm http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Golf-full-race-bias-pedal-box-vr6-1-8t-/260712689636?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb3afefe4 it would make it proper motorsport! And yes, give you alot more room to mount everything.
  8. But you'd put alot of work into your vento? Oh well, atleast you've got another vr to play with!! :-)
  9. You should need too much more force to stop as you have 2 cylinders doing the work of 1. Most turbo kits or home brewed turbo conversions still manage to retail the original servo, how come you feel yours has to go? There is more room than you think down the back of a vr! ;-)
  10. Looking good. Shame about the car park 'hit n run' mate, so many dishonest people out there. That interior really looks at home in your vento! Keep us updated on the vr conversion. :-)
  11. You'd have to get the ends of the hoses crimped on with proper hydraulic fittings. Not quite a diy job, but do-able, using someone like pirtek for the crimping and fittings.
  12. Your custom rear arms are a clever idea, saves modifiying the rear chassis rails to accommodate the mk4 suspension set-up. What suspension (struts/springs) did you use on your car?
  13. Could be an immobiliser fault? Are you using an aftermarket alarm?
  14. No cheers mate, slight change of plan. Going shopping with Katie now! Bloody sales, and we've got vouchers to spend! I'l be doing Adams car on tuesday, then i'l probably go up wed to do the bits i was going to do tomorrow.
  15. A boxing day update! Made it out to the workshop today, and built the doors up, and finished putting the rest of the bits in the tailgate. Going to go up tomorrow to blank the sunroof hole and fit the 3 windows, might even get round to fitting the dash i've had for ages!!! This is my economy drive to fit the parts i have, which will hopefully sort my head out with this car!
  16. Um, was going to comment on the clip you had above, but its gone?
  17. Great project. The decals on the red paint work, with the gold wheels look really good! Looking forward to the updates, espacially your dash build, i'l be interested to see how you go about it, and what clocks you'll use.
  18. I got some car shampoo tabs, and some stig body wash, all from the mother in law - and she got me some prawn star boxers! That was a suprise! :-)
  19. Thanks for the advise. I ended up deleting all the usb things in the device manager, then restarting the computer with the usb to coms lead plugged in and it sorted the drivers out accordingly. I had previously installed the driver for the lead, but it didn't seem to work.
  20. I don't suppose anyone knows how to set the usb ports up in windows xp? I've got an adapter for my ecu, but i can't get it to work. It used to work on my last laptop, but i can't remember how i did it. I think there was somewhere that you could tell the pc what port you wanted?
  21. How'd you guess? :-) Plenty of swearing and cursing ;-)
  22. I think the cleanest thing on the engine was the alternator! Happy scrubbing mate :-)
