  1. Anyone know of any companies that do carbon fibre wrapping? I was thinking of getting a few bits and peices done for the new black VR but not really sure where to go for it? *-) Thanks
  2. Lol! That's brilliant. I can imagine my boyfriend doing something like that. Clever but cruel
  3. I was in the exact same situation as you a few weeks ago. I brought my very first VR6 in January this year when I was 19. Brought it for £1300, looked very smart but underneath the cosmetics, it was a sh*tter. It was a 1994 and was on its second engine, the milometer read 118k but the guy I got the car from reckoned the new engine had only done 89k. Got it home, did a service on it - drained the oil etc. Tried to drive it again after the service and it sounded like a tractor trying to fly. The big ends had gone on it and I was forced to fork out £800 on another engine + labour to get it so
  4. Ok thanks. How can you tell if they all need replacing just by listening? Does the ticking generally just get louder? I know some people would mistake it for timing chains.
  5. ...or tappets whatever you wanna call them! Mine are slightly noisey in the VR and I want to get it sorted before I sell it. I know you can adjust them yourself if you know what you're doing but if they all need replacing, is it costly?
  6. Just over 76k on the new highline Ive just brought which is a 1997. 123000 (71k on the engine) on my other VR6 that im selling.. And just over 115k on the 1.4 golf that im using as a run-around
  7. Came across this beauty without even meaning to. Didnt have any intention of buying a new car because I was planning on keeping my current, rather shabby VR6 as a little project. The plan was to get a new respray on my VR to a metallic black and get a nice black leather re-trim....when I found this! Absolutley mint black, 1997 3door highline. 76000 on the clock with FSH going for a good price, purely because it is classed as a category D car due to it being involved in a crash 6 years ago. Checked with my insurers and they said they are happy to insure me on a Cat D. So I drove all the way u
  8. Yeah, definitley distracts away from the whole point of the car. I never really liked the morette style casing, even though my VR has them - I couldnt wait to get rid, now Im not so sure.
  9. This is the kind of look I would like to go for, and I love the bronzed headlight casing - never seen it before. Do you guys like it or is it an acquired taste?
  10. My baby after the little bump I had, causing the bonnet to lift a little bit
  11. Me and my boyfriend have been sharing my first car at the moment whilst the VR is off road for the project, my first car being '97 1.4 mk3 - my previous pride and joy before I got the VR6 Coming out of Sainsbury's and approached a speed bump VERY slowly because the car has been lowered 40mm and this speedbump is way too high, above the legal limit me thinks. Anyway, just got over the hump when I heard a very loud crunch and a bang. O sh*t, i thought. Got out of the car because it was making one hell of a grinding noise, couldnt see anything hanging off so decided to get it back home where I c
  12. Thanks, I saw that after I posted It was first UK registered in May '95, Ill have a looksies at the throttle body when I go to view it anyway.
  13. Hi guys Was it from the year 1995 that the OBD2 engines were released? Just wondering as I am going to a view a car tonight which is an M reg and Im not sure whether it would be an OBD1 or an OBD2. Cheers
  14. BMW drivers and chavs in saxo's/clios/106's who flaw it past on the motorway in 5th gear, 6000 rpm at 80 mph. Makes me chuckle more than anything really.
  15. Yeah i saw that earlier, very tempted
  16. Hi guys After advertising my VR6 on here, ive now decided that im gonna keep it and throw my loan money and savings into making it my own project. However, im still learning about the VR6 engine and just need some guidance on where to start. First question, Im going to invest in a Schrick inlet manifold. I know Stealth sell them but at a nice hefty price too, Ill spend that much if I have to but are there any other places that I can look? Im reluctant about buying a 2nd hand one because I want everything mint, so I guess im kinda stuck. Im guessing the car also needs a re-map after? Secondly,
  17. Thanks for all of the replies. I think Im definitley gonna have to test drive a 4motion to see how it feels. Ive always driven a mk3 since passing my test, going from a 1.4 to a GTI 16V and then onto the VR6. Im going to have a budget of around 3.5k (maybe a bit more), so I can either get a fairly decent but standard 4M, OR i could buy a very, very nice VR6 thats had a bit of money spent on it... Im taking into account cosmetics aswell, mk3's look way better slammed but then the mk4 have the nice smoother look to them. Decisions!
  18. Hi all Im in the process of trying to sell my VR6 because I fancy a change, I still want to stick to VW obviously and Im being drawn towards the mk4 V6 4motion. I love driving the VR6 and I would like to know how it compares to the MK4. Which is more fun?
  19. Hi guys Got a sony head unit (dont know exact model) - it isnt that old, it's powering the front standard speakers and some JBL 6x9's in the back just until my sound system is fitted. For the past few days, its been cutting out randomly. At first i thought i may have been playing it too loud and it was going into protect mode, but i tried it on a lower volume and it still does it. Sometimes it will work for about 10 seconds, other times it will work for 10 minutes before cutting out. Sometimes it wont even turn on at all. Occasionally, if i completely turn my engine off and restart the car, th
  20. Hi guys Just noticed a problem with the VR. When im on a straight and giving it some, the speedo needle looks as though its jumping. It doesnt increase smoothly, it almost jumps a whole cm at a time, which is bloody annoying. Anyone know what's causing this? It never used to do it.
  21. So this morning at 8:45am, I was driving to work and had my first ever collision. Stuck behind some old woman in a P reg Vauxhall at a roundabout, she pulled off because it was clear, so I followed. Looking to my right as I pulled away to double check and WHAM. Stupid cow stalled her car and my poor VR is looking a bit worse for wear now I should've been looking in front but I suppose these things happen. Not too much damage to be honest. The morette style plastic moulding round my headlight was completely smashed and fell off, the right indicator lense is crunched and hanging off and my bo
  22. My VR needs a bit of money thrown at it, just to get it to tip top condition - and one of the first things that needs sorting are the brakes! I have noticed that when I brake fairly heavily/sharply, the steering wheel shakes pretty badly and the the wheels snatch to the right. The snatching thing has only happened a couple of times but its horrible. Ive read a couple of things on shakey steering wheel and apparently it may be the rotary discs need upgrading. My discs at the moment are just standard flat ones, and I want to get some grooved ones - any recommendations? Pretty sure my brake pads
