  1. Oh no, don't say that I cant really tell where the sound is coming from, I might go outside in a minute with my dad and see if he can tell. The mileage on the clock has just reached 120k but the engine it had put in last december had only done 89k. So roughly, its on about 93k now.
  2. Hi guys Ive noticed over the past week, when I start the VR up there is a very strange airry rattle coming from the engine bay. Once the car has turned over, the rattle disappears. Its very hard to explain, but you only hear it once the ignition sparks and the car turns over, for literally like 2 seconds. Ive also noticed when I am driving in low revs you can hear the same rattle but only ever so slightly and it isnt constant either. Again, it's worse in the cold. Any ideas on what this can be? It's really embaressing having a sexy looking VR6 that sounds like an old banger when you start it

I just drove it 2 miles to the garage where I always take my cars, and it's got worse The car is now struggling constantly, instead of just juddering at certain revs, its now juddering continuously. The noise of the exhaust has also changed, its alot louder and sounds like a helicopter!! Its booked in at the garage for Friday and Im not going to drive it until then, Im just so worried it's something major.

  5. Argh!! Getting pi**ed off with this car now. Ive been driving my car all day around town, went to pick my boyfriend up from work and noticed that either when Im pulling away or at about 3000 rpm, the car judders - almost like bunny hopping but not as bad. Its literally only just started doing it this evening, other than that it still feels normal to drive. It also had uprated HT leads put in a few months ago, so dont think that's the problem. Any ideas???
  6. My first mk3 golf was called Spock. Have no idea why, Im not a fan of star trek, it was just the first name to come to my head! It stuck and even my friends and family call it that. "Sophie, Spock's blocking someone in." or the more common "When's Spock back from the garage?"   8. Hi all, Just started to notice a problem with my 1994 VR6, it seems to reach 100 degrees quicker than usual and im not sure why, espeically with this cold weather. It had a new water pump fitted a few months back and is beginning to sound ever so slightly rattly when I lift up the bonnet. Its done just over 119k chassis miles, but had an OBD2 engine fitted with 89k miles last year and Im really starting to worry that the slight rattling noises are the timing chains on the way out. Ive listened to a few sound clips of dodgy timing chains, and it could be worse...is it a gradual noise that gets
  9. Ive had my first VR6 for about 2-3 weeks now and I love it, the only problem is the fuel consumption. It says im getting 15.6 mpg and when I get out of the car, there's a really strong smell of petrol. Now I know this isnt normal, what needs to be done to sort this? I dont really use it for long distance runs at the moment so I know the mpg isnt gonna be great but I was expecting more than 15.6!! I'm not racing the thing everywhere I go either. Because I dont know a great deal about cars, I spoke to my dad and he says it needs a re-tune and that a garage won't charge much to do it. Any ideas?
  10. Ok, im sorry if this sounds really stupid but ive just started learning about the VR engine and what not so im not really sure on stuff. The K reg VR that i just bought had a new engine fitted a few months back with 89k on it, the mileage on the clock is 117k. The engine sounds ok to me but Im just wondering whether the timing chain is actually part of the engine lump. In other words, if the engine was replaced, does that mean the chains would be aswell??   11. Hi all After the cock up I had with the original VR6 i was set to buy, I ended up with this one... It has 117k on the clock but had a new engine fitted that had done 89,000 miles on it. This was done about 4 months ago. I have receipts from the previous owner who did it. Is there any way I can set the milometer legally to match the engine mileage? I know it's still got the 117k of chassis miles but at the end of the day, its about the engine life really in my opinion. Ive heard there are companies that do it professionally but I have no idea where to go, any ideas?

  13. I was originally going to get a spray job on whatever car I got but now Im thinking about saving money in the long run. The VR6 i'm getting is mint, the bodywork is immaculate so if I had a spare £2k to spend on a decent respray just for a change in colour then I would, but Ive only got about £1k to spend on the styling. Argh, decisions!
  14. Im picking up my very first VR6 tomorrow. It's a light silver with some nice deep dish alloys but I want to add my own style to it. Originally, I wanted a car that aswell as sounding mean, looked mean too - so ideally a black, stealthy looking VR6 would've been perfect but I had trouble finding a decent one in my price range. So I've been thinking about putting a carbon fibre bonnet on my silver VR6, debadged silver grill (which I already have) and some black angel eye head lights - just to make it look a bit more meaner (with possibly some subtle tints).   15. I get really bad road rage. I cant stand old people. Full stop. I get so irate when Im stuck behind one that's doing about 15mph in 30 zone, leaving their indicator on for ages, braking way before they need to....argh! im getting wound up just thinking about it.   17. Hi all I am new to these forums and im just after a little advice. I'm 19 and started off with my 1.4 mk3 as my first car. I then moved up to a 2.0l GTI 16V which I love driving but have now been offered a swap for a VR6 and I'm really not sure! I would love a VR6 but there are so many factors putting me off, most obviously being that I am only 19 and only have a couple years driving experience (Im scared to be honest!) and also I don't know whether I can afford to run it.
