  1. Im only going to supercharge the VR once my little 1.4 is on the road again, which wont be for another year The supercharged VR will only be to show off in at the weekends Ill keep my 1.4 to drive to work in to save petrol costs. I have too many ideas and I want everything yesterday. I just thought the airride suspension looked impressive, but I suppose once u add up all the costs, its not worth it. Shame though.
  2. Ok, so Im thinking about increasing my loan an extra couple of grand so I can do some serious shopping. The loan I got was originally just for the car, but there is no way Ill be able to save and Im an impatient person Im thinking about getting airride suspension fitted and I'd like to know what you guys think about it. I found an american site which sells a premium kit for $1099. Are there any good brands I should go for? Has anyone got airride on their VR? This is just an idea at the moment, I saw a video on youtube and I thought it looked pretty smart. Also practical for when my VR is sl
  3. Looks like he couldnt quite afford the bat-mobil, so improvised instead. Nasty.
  4. Well I plan on keeping the car for at least a few more years yet, it's a 1993 and the engine mileage is on 93k so Ive still got LOTS more life in it. I do use the VR every single day, BUT I still have my 1.4 which is currently off the road which I was thinking about having as my main car, and having the VR6 for the weekends. That way I can spend more on the VR without having to worry about spending too much on the wear and tear of it. If I was to supercharge the VR then I would definitley only use it as a 2nd car. The most I travel to work everyday is a 15 mile round trip which is all urban ro
  5. This is Spock. God, I love this car
  6. Thanks for all the info. Great help Seeing as Im a VR6 noob at the moment, I think Im going to wait until the end of the year - gives me plenty of time to experience some VRT's and VRSC's for myself so i can come to a decision. Putting the power gain issues to the side, with regards to maintenance and cost - which is easier? which is cheaper? I dont want to spend thousands, but I dont want a really cheap one either. I also dont want something that's gonna cause my car to be an endless money pit aswell!
  7. Aaah right, well my stupid mechanic didnt tell me that. Ill have to swap it for some semi tomorrow then. When I change the oil with my dad, Im going to change the fuel filter and clean the induction kit aswell. Is there a special solution I need to clean it?
  8. Oh damn. Well my mechanic said it's whatever I could afford, Fully being the better one to get. :S Shall I swap for Semi then?
  9. Haha, wow! Well Ive had my first VR6 for 3 months now and I think ive spent around £450 on stupid little things - bearing in mind for those 3 months I was unemployed, yet I still managed to find the cash for the main priority in my life. I think my window tints are the only thing you can see I've spent money on. The rest is invisible
  10. Yeah plenty but Im at work and the d*cks in IT have blocked photobucket access, so Ill upload some later!
  11. I just spent the last £60 in my account to buy some fully synthetic oil for the VR. *sigh* - Im literally pouring my money away Downside of loving your car too much, spent shite loads of cash but can you see it? No.
  12. Spock, my flash red 1.4 mk3 golf. This was my first car and I still own it as I cant bring myself to sell it to a stranger. Instead I have agreed to let my boyfriend use it to learn to drive in and to have a first car for a little while, when he's finished Ill be buying my baby back. Dont ask why Im so attached to the blimmin' thing, it's given me nothing but trouble and it's slower than a sedated elephant. But, it looks damn sexy. Lowered 60mm all round, recent spray job, subtle tints and some old school 17" momo alloys. I still look at it sitting outside my house and wish I was still insure

Shut up! That was you?! Hahaha. The exhaust was on it when I got the car in January, its a heap of sh*t though. Keeps getting blows in it, I need to get a new centre box for it as it's re-developed a crack in the welding, and I think one of the brackets has come lose again. And btw, I challenge you to a re-race as that one clearly wasn't fair. I had 4 people in my car, an extra 35 stone Plus the blow in the exhaust causing air-flow pressure, haha!
  14. I understand what you're saying about sticking to something that needs less maintenance, I still have ALOT to learn about my VR. I have yet to put my VR on a rolling road to see what the current bhp is, I dont think it's gonna be great. Although its a 93' model, it has an OBD2 engine. I would ideally like around 260bhp from extra mods, and I know there's not much else I can do (apart from remaps and chips) to increase the bhp without adding a turbo.
  15. I dont know whether a tappet problem could affect the performance of the car. I have noticed now that when Im driving, the car is less responsive and is noisier than normal. The sound of the car has changed! Instead of the low pitch drone it used to make, it now sounds like a subaru, with a very loud fluttery exhaust noise. Whilst it's idling, it's also alot more shaky. Is this due to the oil/tappets?? I am going to get some decent oil after work (semi or full?) and try and get the problem sorted, I'm worried that I'm damaging the VR by driving it when it's like this. It's confusing me slight
  16. Ah, I was gonna go this year but didnt have the money!

Honda DC2 in 5 seconds definitley puts my VR to shame!! I didnt time it properly, I got my friend to use the stopwatch on her phone, made her adjust her seat so she could see the speedo aswell. She counted down from 3, I slammed it into first and went. There was a fair bit of wheelspin aswell which didnt help

I do I spend most of my money on my car. Instead of blowing £80 a weekend on booze and getting smashed, I spend about £20 and the rest to save up on bits I want for the VR.

No I had my pride and joy of a 1.4 for a year before passing my test (which is how i built up 1 years NCB) then when I passed my test, I carried on driving the 1.4 for another 6 months. Then I had a GTI for a couple of days but I was still curious about the VR. Sold the GTI and got the beast Insurance is around £130 a month, not fully comp.
  20. Lol, nicely explained there. Thanks At the moment, Im swaying more towards a turbo, but im going to read up on them both. Any good turbo's for the VR6 I should take a look at?

Right, the other week I decided I wanted to test my driving skills. Im 19 and passed my test in July 2008 and went straight from a 1.4 mk3 to the VR6. As ive said in other posts, my VR6 is standard other than a stainless steel exhaust and an induction kit. Got the VR on a lovely, empty straight road and got my mate to get the stop watch out. Managed to do it in 7.62 seconds (from neutral). Im just wondering, is that a crap time?
  22. I use my VR to drive to work and back, about a 10 mile all round trip. My mpg is currently at 15.2 mpg, however it went down to 11.5 the other day when there was heavy traffic! Most i've ever got was 23 mpg on a trip from Crawley to Brighton. I spend around £30 a week on petrol. I miss driving my 1.4 purely because of this lol!
  23. My VR6 is pretty standard at the moment, only things different is the stainless steel twin exhaust, induction kit and uprated leads. Come August/September, I am thinking about doing some serious tuning and Im not sure what path to take and I want to know what you guys think? Shall I turbo it or supercharge it? I obviously want alot more power, but not a ridiculous amount where I might end up killing myself I always thought superchargers force alot more petrol in? thus, going through buckets of more fuel. I dont know much about turbo's or chargers so I need to do some reseach obviously. Ive
  24. Yeah, my dad listened to the noise last night and suggested it might be the tappets. Is this a serious and expensive problem? I use the VR to get to work and Im not sure whether it's safe to carry on driving it. edit/ Took it to my mechanic, he said it's the hydraulic tappets possibly not having enough oil. He advised me to drain the old oil and replace with a better type, and apparently isnt anything to worry about.
