Thanks for the offer Calico, got a good friend who is a mechanic who's having a look at it tonight though - and in the meantime I get to drive a beasty 1 litre Daewoo Matiz whilst its getting fixed. Do you guys think it will be ok to drive it 10 miles to the garage if its only firing on 5 cylinders? :-\

Im going to keep it in the car park bay at home until its looked at. Bus to work next week me thinks, bah!
-
Yeah it was left running for about 5-10 minutes before I took it out for a drive. Well the battery died on thursday when we had the heavy snowfall, got it started up and left running for a while, then drove it about 10 miles. Friday morning the battery was dead again and I only got it started again today, so its only been left for a couple of days. Stupidly, I havnt checked the anti-freeze yet, but ive got an unopened bottle in the car ready if it needs it :-\

Hi guys, Got a problem with the VR, its currently sounding like a really loud suburu!! Best way to describe the noise of it. The battery had died due to the cold weather, got it started this morning and took it for a spin and noticed that at first it was struggling a little bit when I put my foot down, after a few minutes it was ok but just sounded loud and rumbly, and when idling I could feel it was quite lumpy and shakey. Its not as responsive as it was and Im wondering whether one of the cylinders has gone or whether its just a big blow in the exhuast? Sorry if this sounds stupid - im not

Its a nice feeling isnt it? Mine just had an MOT and it cost me £525! New front suspension shock, new front brakes, new brake pipes, alignment done, brake bias was out aswell, exhaust reweld....amongst a whole lot of other stuff. Feels good to have a nice VR again!

Hi guys, Ive got a little favour to ask you all! My dearest mother has put me forward for the Miss Crawley 2010 competition and ive been selected, along with 5 other girls for a chance to win the title, aswell as a modelling contract and a lil photoshoot Was wondering if you could just click the link and put in your vote for me? Only takes 2 seconds. At the moment its a close call between myself and 2 other girls, so your votes would be greatly appreciated! http://www.thisissussex.co.uk/news/ENTER-Miss-Crawley-News-2010/article-2409411-detail/article.html I'm the one at the top - Sophie Abra

Im still waiting to hear back about this from the police. The suspense is unbearable lol
-
Yep thanks for all of the advice guys. Im not going to try and fight it, no point. The letter I received was actually a photocopy of the letter that the hire car company got from the police. They have forwarded on my details so Im having to wait to hear from the police officially. Live and learn i suppose.

I turned 21 at the end of June.

Hi all Im in a bit of sh*tty situation at the moment, and its my first time of dealing with something like this so just after a bit of help really. I received a letter from the police yesterday saying that I had been caught doing 97mph on the M4 in a temporary 50mph speed zone. Yeah. Sh*t lol. This is going to be my first speeding offense and Im worried sick about what's going to happen - purely because this has happened before my drivers license had reached 2 years. I passed my test on July 18th 2008 and I was caught speeding on July 4th. I dont know how many points im going to get, but if

Yeah the engine replacement last year was just the bare engine, as far as Im aware it's still got ECU for an OBD1.
-
Ive been looking at some chips from Bahn Brenner for the VR, and this may sound a bit stupid but im not sure whether I should be looking at OBD1 chips or OBD2. My car is a 94 but has an engine from a '97 VR. Obviously the ECU in my car is for an OBD1 engine so just a bit confused. http://www.bahnbrenner.com/vw_audi/products/645/Techtonics_EPROM_VR6_OBD_2

I use 10w/40 grade in my VR. Try changing the oil to see if this helps, if not it could be the tappets that are getting a bit noisey - which doesnt cost too much to fix. Alot of people confuse tappet noise with timing chains, so its important you get it looked at to decipher whether it's something that's a bit more serious.

Lol yeah, thanks James :-P Correct colour name though is Dusty Mauve! -
Ok, you know the dual carraigeway that follows down from Sainsbury's in west green, the one that brings you out by Cheals roundabout? Well there's a garage on the left hand side on the carraigeway, cant remember what it's called even though I go there all the time, but yeah - that's the cheapest one in crawley as far as im aware.

Lol James!! I saw the pic of that Lexus on your facebook profile but didnt know it was yours, tut tut poor mans merc Hehe, only jokin! You'll be glad you didnt buy mine when i was thinking of selling last year, its been a right b*tch lately. Currently driving around with all the plastics from the dashboard on the backseat!! What is your cheapest quote for insurance on a VR? Im paying £120 a month only third party for mine..., it may dent my bank account but the smiles are all worth it. Still though, although its a Lexus, it does look quite smart -
£1.32? Ouch! Cheapest garage round my area now is around £1.21 a litre for petrol, but ive seen prices of £1.24+

How many miles has you VR6 covered????
Miss-Vw replied to carl1976's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Actual shell miles 126k but the engine has only covered about 74k -
Ok thanks guys, i told my mechanic over the phone where the hidden bolts were and he said he could see them now so hopefully it should all be done soon! What a pain in the ar*e!
-
Thanks for the replies, anyone know where these bolts are in the engine bay? my mechanic reckons he cant see anymore bolts anywhere. I just rang another garage aswell to see whether they could do it, except they charge £66ph + vat! And they reckoned it would be an 8-10 hour job. The guy I go to only charges £35ph and will work on it after hours to avoid adding extra costs, so id rather stick to the garage I always go to
