268's are a better option IMO. If you're driving your VR properly you'll be above 3500/4k rpm most of the time anyhow

Try United Motorsport as suggested, they are world renown for VR6 tuning.
  3. 044 is good and my choice also but only in a surge tank, otherwise they would put you deaf lol
  4. It's not a case of whether OBD1 can handle it or not it's more getting someone to tune it is the problem. Most of the European ones you see are on some sort of standalone. Also, a coilpack setup is less fickle on late OBD1. OBD2 is more responsive to tuning but im surprised more people aren't looking towards ME7 setups and get away from chip tuning altogether.
  5. Was going to post more or less the same as Matty there lol
  6. 1996 mk3 Golf 24v BDE VR6 United Motorsport Pro-Maf software 3" turbo back PTE JB 6766 .96 02M with ERF gearing @ 18psi/1.2bar 518.8hp corrected at the flywheel @ 6678rpm (limiter at 7200rpm which wasn't hit by tester) 428.9 lb/ft torque @ 5633rpm
  7. Comments like this wont get you far mate. This is all voluntary on here, not a paid service.
  8. I think I spent £200 on all the bits for it but that may have included new casing bolts
  9. It's the only bit I didn't do myself actually, friend of mine has the VW Tech gearbox training so let him do it. He rebuilt it with new seals and bearings etc and did a great job, it feels great.
  10. Have a good day tomorrow guys! Dave, leave the poncey 4 pot at home and get the mk3 out!
  11. I wouldn't go for diesel gearing with an N/A setup as it's too long...takes the power to compensate IMO. I can't say for sure though as I haven't experienced it personally. Possibly the standard gearing in an 02M from an R32 or 4 motion (DRP as above) would be best?
  12. I'm running complete ERF gearing in my 02M, it is pretty long but boost makes up for it, 3rd being the magic gear
  13. Smack bang in the middle of it too...unlucky mate! Car looked great for the wedding
  14. Pity they were a bit more pleasant to us locals! Pmsl!!
  15. Haha awesome, everyone loves it here for some reason....think it's just us really don't you think?
  16. Haha! Your mk5 has potential to be quicker than that slow aRSe with very little effort Dave!
  17. Thanks fellas! Dave it was a pleasure to meet you at last, glad you enjoyed the wee spin lol. Yours is absolutely mint too! Matty cheers, I have loads of pics, just haven't updated the build thread in a while but I will do so some time soon
  18. Won't make a button of difference Michael, my inlet temp sensor is a 20vT one and in a boost pipe so not subject to the same heat soak plus a nice big aluminium heat shield over the exhaust manifold helps. Only reason I'd be fitting an SRI is because the OE plastic mani can only take so much boost pressure before it will blow itself open
  19. Thanks guys! Yes Craig, still on standard inlet which is why I didn't run at higher boost pressure, too scared of popping it lol. Also still getting a bit of clutch slip at higher boost pressure so need to address that too. I don't track the car, it's a bit of fun that's all. Traction isn't too bad all things considered...LSD and long gearing helps but rolling starts are definitely better lol
  20. Cheers It's a starting point anyhow, only way is up now
  21. Couple of vids of my mk3 24v VR6 turbo on United Motorsport software. Car made 518.8hp & 428.9lb/ft torque at the crank at 1.2bar/18psi on this excursion in a workshop that was 20 degrees +
