  1. hehe thanx i know its brakes... thats why its in this section;) i would expect fliud level or handbrake to be on the standard red handbrake light... this is a yellow light... not the red one was wondering if this had some specific meaniing EDIT: could be pads tho ill have to check that out
  2. this warning light came on last week for one journey (next time i got in the car the light was off again) then last night it did the same thing, came on during my trip to work, coming back home it was off again... not sure quite what it means, it's a yellow circle with 3 yellow dashes either side [img width=640]http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk53/Karr-Man/vr/112208160347.jpg
  3. yes they will fit yes its fine to run different size tyres front and back as long as its not 4wd bear in mind your speedo will be out
  4. im pretty sure that it was a dodgy control unit...immobiliser kicked in whilst i was driving down the A316... was very lucky really as onlky 5mins previous i nad been doing naughty speeds on the M3... dont wanna think about what could have happened if i had lost brake servo and power steering there:/
  5. unfortunately fitting yourself means u lose thatcham status:/ unless u just happen to be a qualified technician...in which case i doubt he'd be here asking which alarm to fit personally i got a clifford 650 and would deffo NOT recommend it...its caused me no end of hassle, back to the fitters 3 times and had to have a new control unit fitted :@
  6. i would be VERY careful of that. a vr6 can overheat if full with just water - it NEEDS some antifreeze/coolant to keep cool not talking about long journeys or driving the car hard.... tbh i didnt notice any unusual temps
  7. i think G11 was blue, if yrs was brown that means either it was mixed or part of yr system is corroding inside when i drained mine to change the rad it was brownish so on refill i just used plain water... ran it for a few trips then drained again to clean out any crap that was left behind...this was when it was warmer tho... i wouldnt leave it over night with standard water at this time of year
  8. its nicely done for what it is....unfortunately i dont like what it is, i can see how others might like it tho...
  9. Front ones really easy, gearbox ones a right bitch, havent worked with the other one yet
  10. yr missing the classic: "The lead car is unique, except for the one behind it which is identical."
  11. cant see too well from the pic but if thats the plastic part of the selector mechanism thats snapped then a new one is only £10 from main stealers part no: 1J0 711 256
  12. dammit, thats way too far for me to travel for a set of lights:( looks like its back to scouring ebay for me...
  13. glad u got it working, it may be a bit of hassle to set up the ebay lead but it saves a substantial amount of cash:)
  14. open device manager scroll down to ports and click the "+" symbol to expand it double click on "USB serial port" click the "port settings" tab at the top click the "advanced" button open the "com port number" drop down box and select "com4" (this this is the port i use and it shouldnt conflict with anything else) open the VAGCOM software and tell it to look on port 4 hopefully that should work... fingers crossed
  15. ok i had this problem 1st as well... IIRC the cable defaults on a port number higher than 4 which is a problem as the software only recognises ports 1-4... im pretty sure that if u go into the device manager and find the cable (i think it comes up as "usb serial port") u can change it so its on a different port
  16. i would have thought it would work fine with vista. if u wanna check whether the software works then download the shareware version of VAGCOM and see: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/ i would think that this is what they will send u with the cable anyway. mine came without software (the bloody cd they sent was blank) so i downloaded from the link above and it works fine... thats on xp but i guess if u can run the software then it will work ok... £12 aint much to lose if it doesnt work with vista and u would prolly be able to sell the cable on this site anyway
  17. shouting "FREE SHERBET!!!"
  18. if tis the original engine then it's obdII on a p reg, i believe theres a guide in the FAQs for identifying OBD by looking at throttle-bodies etc.
  19. u said u noticed the smell of oil, did it smell like engine oil or transmission oil??? theres a big difference and tranny oil is unmistakeable, it smells REALLY bad... not like engine oil at all.
