ok guys, i need my diff replaced and in order to save myself a few hundred quid im planning on removal and refitting of the gearbox myself. i have a haynes manual which doesnt cover the vr6 engine but coivers the 02A gearbox on other applications so should prove helpful. although i have other mechanical experience ive never done a gearbox b4 so if anyones got any tips or things i should watch out for id appreciate any advice thanx

hmm, he came back with a quote of 750, safe to say i was not impressed anyone know of any decent places for a gearbox in west london???

thanx m8, i must confess the 1st thing that went through my mind was whos breaking atm on vr6oc, but on reflection that seems like it could be a big gamble as u can never tell how a car has been driven... i may as well bite the bullet now and know its sorted:)

ok well i took her down to my mechanic today and it looks like the problem is with the diff:( with both wheels off the ground and drive engaged shes relatively smooth, as soon as either of the wheels are stopped theres massive vibrations and some very nasty noises anyone know what sort of price i should be looking at for a reconditioned box?? my mechanics gonna speak to a m8 of his tomorrow to see if he can get me a good deal but id like to have a ballpark figure from any experts here 1st so i know what im talking about thanx

sounds like the wiring to me, have u tried opening the door and pulling back the rubber sleeve to look at the wires, when i had a look at mine the broken wire was obvious. AFAIK the regulator is the window mechanism itself probems with these seem to be when the cable which pulls the window up and down gets frayed and sticks, or the plasic connection on the lifter that fits onto the cable bead breaks fuses would be in the fuse box i imagine, just below the steering wheel???

doesnt seem limited to a certain speed although i havent driven fast since i noticed it. difficult to tell if its worse when turning as its not a huge vibration, just enuff that it feels wrong, its certainly not the way it was a couple of weeks ago. is there any way to check cv joints without taking them apart??? EDIT: the steering seem to have a very slight pull to the left which i dont think was there b4...its not massive but if u let go of the wheel she slowly drifts left

ive recently been getting some rumbling/vibration which feels like its coming from the front nearside of the car... guessing that this may be the bearing but any opinions/ideas on what might be the cause would be welcome thanx

have u checked out the for sale forum or asked ppl who are breaking if they have coil packs available... if u only need one for a stop gap this could be a good solution. alternatively put a new thread up in the wanted forum asking for one, thats what i did and within a week i had a BRAND NEW one delivered for £60 from a member who had bought it but found that he didnt need it
