  1. If its mapped right it drives lovley. If you drive mine gently you'd never know it was anythign other than a std vr apart from the extra power and the nice noises Great Tom
  2. Get a set of standard ones from gsf. £60 odd quid i think last set was. Tom.
  3. It'll just be condensation as mk3anni said. No panic. Tom.
  4. Excellent work kev, and some nice neat tigging there from your man. seems a shame to wrap it doesnt it! I've had my eye on those blanket, supposed to be quite good at keeping the heat in, and apart form saving your engine ba components, more heat in the turbo will help with spool. Let me know what you think of it. might have to purchase one.. Or go on the rob at sellafield Tom.
  5. use a mk4 metal head gasket to up the compression a tad. No major power gains but worth doing while your there. Best mod for a NA vr6 in my opinion is a 3.68 final drive, but if you do alot of motorway driving its probably not ideal. Personally i would defo spend the cash on the box instead of the VGI. O, and a 6 branch. My 2p. Tom.
  6. O yeah it'll defo work with the rising rate reg, just not the adjustable fpr. EIP use it too with varying success, although they change the timing with a chip as well. It'll get you going, see whats what and give you a point of ref. Just make sure you keep a close eye on the afr while your playing with it. Good news about the downpipe - get some more pics up when its done! Tom.
  7. no, wont work. it'll give you baseline afr but no good for boost. If you want to go that way you need a rising rate reg. Nasty way of doing it, but works as a short term solution if needed. Also even with pukka fuelling, the stock ignition maps are not suitable for boost. It'll run, and be ok off boost, but i wouldnt push it very hard... Tom.
  8. It'll work, but wont be great withough mapping. Bigger maf body means ecu will see less air flow than you have, but it will think its firing standard injectors, and your using bigger ones, so your ok ish up to low boost, but i'd be VERY carefull and monitor your afr etc. Tom.

    ford vr6

VR6 was used in the Mercedes V class V280 too. It gets about... Tom.
  10. what do they do with the remanufacturing - whats replaced? tbh the parts for chains are about £200, the cost is in labour, and if you can swap the engine yourself, then you can do the chains yourself. If not then the labour of swapping the engine on top of the cost of the engine makes doing the chains a much cheaper option. Tom.
  11. up under the dash - i THINK it has 109 on the end of it?? It would still crank with relay 3 (109) missing. Tom.
  12. As said wont be immob. car would fire up. OBD2 cars wont prime the pump until the engine turns over. Starter would still turn the engine over if ecu was dead or not powered. Sounds like starter maybe, do you get a click or anything? check the thick wire between starter and solonoid. Silly question but i'm gonna ask it - how long was it not running for? ie flat battery? Tom.
  13. If its already all been done then thats not a bad buy for £800. save up and get a sorted head for it now :) Tom.
  14. To be honest you could lose the pistons/rods and not touch the crank. Leave in your standard injectors, and std clutch will be fine too. Youve saved yourself over £1k and not lost any power really. IMO theres no need for the bottom end work unless you want to go a little further and get a big valve head, all ported and with uprated springs etc, then with that spec you can rev the whole lot to 8k+ and your off. 2.9 with 11:1 268's 6 branch and decat - 210 ish + pistons/rods/crank work - 211 maybe... with ported BVH and rev happy madness - 230 up is possible Tom.
  15. Have a look on ebay - theres normallay a few on there - second hand ones go for anywhere from £20-70
  16. Youve set the benchmark pops. If i pull my finger out we can try mine on sunday. I reckon i can do it in 3rd without too much traction problems, but not sure i can match your top end grunt. Be fun finding out.... Tom
  17. Yes they will be long enough, but i wouldnt use 2. Its a 3 peice metal gasket. take out the middle spacer layer and put in a 1-2mm steel spacer instead. Exactly the way eip etc do there compression reducing spacers, but cheaper Tom.
  18. Pass, thats how they come to me. I think it might be where they pour the mould and they grind it back flat but i never really thought about it. After a couple of heat cycles the colour of the grind matches the rest of the cast and it dissapears. Got another batch on the way in a couple of weeks, i'll see if there the same but i presume they will be. Your car is gonna be awesome kev, really nicley installed custom VRT. Love it. Tom.
  19. Ok, Well i cant say i'd recommend this kit, i havent used it, i dont know how it will run, how good it will all fit, weather it has 100% of the bits you need and how long it will last. It uses standard injectors, stock compression and rising rate fuel reg so good for around 6 psi. I do know its not worth £2500, i can get it for £1550. would take 4-6 weeks and would need £1000 up front. Again - its not my kit, and I will not be responsible for its quality/fitment/durability, but if anyone was going to go for it i'd rather it didnt cost you 2500! Tom.
  20. O dear god. If i had 8.5k spare, i'd buy that just to drive it into a lake. Tom.
  21. That kits a bit basic, not gonna get huge power from it, and its not all that pretty. Having said that if anyone does want one i can get it to you for about £1600. If anyones interested i'll get an exact price for you. Tom.
