  1. OBJECTIVE: Waste a few minutes setting off an airbag - why not eh? EQUIPMENT: 1 x Stripped VR6 Caravelle (with airbag) 1 x Battery 5m Wire Camera phone METHOD: Wire up airbag and back away from the vehicle, battery at the ready. Volunteer someone with camera phone to get in position Inform said camera operator to "say when".... DIAGRAM: RESULTS: Video - 686Kb (mind the language....) http://www.btinternet.com/~tommyw/Stuff/when.wmv CONCLUSIONS: 1) Much mirth and merriement had by all. 2) Probably best to avoid it going off when your sat behind it... :-p Tom - Form 4B
  2. OBD1 was coilpack from mid 93. ECU codes for Dizzy OBD1 are 021 906 258 A/B/C ECU codes for the coilpack ODB1's - 021 906 258 AG/AF/CH/CP/BM/EA/BK OBD2 codes are 021 906 256 XX or 02 1906 259 XX Definatly worth checking. have a good look for cracks on the black plastic. Tom.
  3. They crop up on ebay from time to time to - can get a second hand one for £10 if you look hard enough. Not a long term solution but will keep you going for a while. Can get new ones from GSF for around £125 i think. Tom.
  4. There just for illustration in that pic, we are still testing turbos for reliability / driveability before we will offer them for sale. We have most of the other parts required though. PM me and I can help you out. Tom.
  5. What brakes did you go for? See if you can borrow a set of 17's just to see if the improvement is worth relacing your wheels and go from there? Tom.
  6. Funny you should mention it... :$ Check out this link - http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?100620 PM me for more info if you like. Tom.
  7. Re the LHD/RHD thing, The exhaust manifold wont fit, as the LHD cars have the brake servo in a different place - its right in the way in a RHD car. Tom.
  8. mmm, looks fairly comprehensive, however its alot of money for what you get - and the biggie - it wont fit a right hand drive car. HGP do some good stuff though. Tom.
  9. Later Mk4's have the clocks tied in with the immob systems, clocks, keys loom and ecu all need to match on say a 1.8T. Mk3 vr no such probs, get another set in there, if it doens solve the problem sell them on. Also check your earthing points are good. Tom.
  10. No not really - I see what you mean though. Its all about adjusting your driving to the car - if you drive it like a saxo then yeah you'll spin the wheels up and end up in a hedge soon enough, but its actually surprisingly easy to get it all down as you learn the car and be more progresive with the gas As you start to get in to even higher power figures, if you start to struggel you can control boost with something like the Apex-i AVC-R, you can set boost levels for different gears, different rpms etc to allow you to get off the line nicely, and stop you blowing gearbox's apart on gear changes
  11. mmm, what side inlet on the shimmel dod you go for - ie do you need both inlet and outlet on the same side of the cooler? Are you sure the cooler you have is ok - corrado g60 one isnt that big so its odd you see such a loss through it - maybe get it pressure tested? Other than that a 130pd side mount cooler might be worth looking at. similar sort of shap and size to the g60 one. Tom.
  12. Not bad gains then at all. Keep us posted! Tom.
  13. Just as a ref - what did you have before the schimmel/pully? (bhp / psi) Cheers, Tom.
  14. I'd like a '68 mustang or a z28. proper old school Tom.
  15. you push the button marked ASR or ESP depending what system you have. Mk5 its down by the gear stick, mk4 its either there or on the dash. I think some mk4 switches are marked by a triagle with an exclamation mark in it. It doesnt acutally turn it totally off, its still there just a bit. Its a pain cos you cant left foot brake in an ASR / ESP car. (unless you take the abs fuse out but that would just be daft )
  16. Drive slower round corners. The light will flash when the traction control is correcting you, and it works by braking the correct wheels to keep you pointing in the right direction. On wet days with that tourque you can well end up spinning inside wheels on corners, or driving through a puddle on a motorway can trigger it as 1 wheel suddenly is going slower than the others etc. unless it does it while driving at a steady speed on a striaght road its probably working fine. Some things can make it more sensitive - the rain in particular, but check your tyre pressures are right, if it persists a
  17. 239 for a mk4, 247 for a mk5. I think. Tom.
  18. Zeitronix is good stuff, Been using them a while now. Got a couple of em and there invaluable. Logging software is good too. 1 Question though - do your price's include vat? seem a little steep - £315 for the ZT-2 and display, versus $399 + $40 international postage direct from Zeitronix - thats £230. Even with customs charges thats a hell of a difference. EGT probe £62 or $77 (£40) direct. Would reccomend the product though. Tom.
  19. You need to have a real good look at the other pistons/plugs. chances are the other 5 wernt far behind. The fact the plug tip melted to proves it went because it was lean, rather than piston failure. As i said before it could be a faulty plug/lead/coilpack or injectors making that one cylinder lean out - but considering the situation were it popped it sounds more like the map. Hope you get it sorted, Tom.
