  1. Put me down please, I should be able to make it this year. Have marked it in my diary to make it official.
  2. Put me down please, it's my local show so can't really miss this one. Hope the weather's as good as last year! Must pencil in some time to get some tidying done on the car BEFORE the show...
  3. You're just trying to make us jealous!
  4. Can't say I've seen that before so I can't advise. Welcome to the club though.
  5. Get a quote Steve, or at least ask for a "guide price" then base your decision on that. Probably need to factor in somewhere to stay etc unless you've got friends somewhere local or plan to get the train back (which might be cost effective if you go off peak).
  6. It's a long trip from Glasgow! Wilmslow is nearer by about 45 miles I think than Stoke-on-trent but you pays your money and you takes your choice (as the old saying goes).
  7. Well, I finally bit the bullet and Dave (dlea) and Liam at Manor Park Mechanics in Wilmslow did my chains last week. Also had the clutch done at the same time and they sorted out a leaky exhaust joint too for me. Couldn't be happier with the service they give there and the price was very good too. It has now transformed the car from a rattley, blowey thing that annoyed me a little each time I started it to a silky smooth motor again! It now sounds smoother than when I first aquired the car and I can't believe how much different the clutch is, sooo much lighter but I hadn't realized it had got
  8. IMHO any point marked on the car as a jacking point should be more than able to take the weight with headroom for errors. Clearly the mk3 golf ones are marginal at best.
  9. Duct tape I'm sure it'll be sortable one way or another.
  10. Isn't waxoyling it going to make it a problem to weld? i.e. difficult and likely to set on fire!
  11. Not so cheap the low profile jack's are they? I've sure I saw a good one on offer somewhere a while back but can't remember where. Might have been GSF or I know Costco have offers on so it could have been there...
  12. Sanky, you're a star! Looking at that pic, where the number 1 is (not the arrow, the number) I think is supposed to be the service jacking point? That's a bit squished anyhow. I guess they just aren't that strong underneath, never come across that sort of generic weakness on any other cars I've had before and wouldn't have expected that on a VW. I've got some ramps for normal type work which are quick and solid for getting under the front or back. Next on the shopping list is a good jack, I've seen the type sounds like Ciaran's wide and low. Another thought though - Axle stands, mine are
  13. Ho hum. Was having a check under my car today as when dlea MOT'd it he mentioned about the jacking points being bent saying it seems a common thing if I remember rightly. I've pretty much done any work on the car myself since I got it so it had to be the local garage that I used previously when I took it in for tracking and a couple of minor things I didn't have time to get done. Anyway, I felt like crying today after having a proper look, as not only are the sills bent over and dented (could see that bit without going underneath) but there seems to be some bending on what I think is the ser
  14. Was thinking about it but can't make it this weekend. Definately planning to attend a few club meets/events/informal gatherings this year though.
  15. I paid about £140 fitted for my last 2 pairs of the T-1R's in 205/50/15 Great tyres.
  16. Supersprint exhausts tend to keep the OEM bore and couple it with better flowing boxes which means your less likely to lose any low end torque on a standard engine. They sound very OEM+ too.
  17. It's not immobolized is it? Probably coil or something in the electrics but it's something else to consider.
  18. Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open.
  19. Well, no fuel apart from the moderately sized lump of uranium sitting in the fission reactor. I'm pretty sure anything able to store enough energy to give off far infrared radiation without a power source wouldn't either be safe or legal. Far infrared is normally associated with lasers (lots of power and cooling required) or with travelling radiation from stars (petty big bangs required) it doesn't really capture and sit in a substance very well unlike for instance a magnetic source. However, you can always suck it and see, stranger things have happened. PS Don't suck it... just in case it
  20. I can't see why you'd need to have the head reconditioned at all, it just sounds like a valve stem oil seal problem. Is there some other reason to suspect the head would need reconditioning e.g. the valve stems themselves are worn and the valves need replacing?
  21. lol how's it going to emit a far infrared field without a power source? There is a tiny bit of technical merit in magnetic versions of these things which have been proven to work in preventing limescale build up within hard water areas for domestic water and heating and might actually clean up a fuel path when used on a car - similar to detergents in that it will help improve mpg on a dirty engine until it gets clean. But that advert says magnetic solutions don't work and instead choose something that normally requires a great deal of power to generate and cooling to deal with... what you hav
  22. Sounds like you're being paranoid. All chains make some noise when they're running it's normal. Belts are generally quieter but bring their own problems. There are also different causes, not always the chains themselves e.g. the tensioner bolt is stiff, the oil feed to the bolt is partially blocked etc. Mine has the latter but it's getting better each time I short change the oil now it's on synthetic. If you're sticking your head right in there to hear the noise I expect what your hearing is normal.
