DYNO DEMON RR DAY SUN 28TH OCT... RESULTS ON P24...
Buzzark replied to Dub-Donna's topic in Previous Events
Hey Helen, I'll bring my spare RAMair filter. While we're standing around you can try it on your motor - unless you've already got one? -
-
I must be doing something wrong then. Quick explanation. Spray on polish stuff Kneed clay and rub over area Buff with supplied cloth ????????????????????????????????? I have thrown the instructions' date=' as usual. Who needs em :-p I must be doing something wrong or does it not really work on Laquered finish. [/quote'] I think 4mobora is saying it's hard work if you include the megs 3 stage system afterwards. That's at least 6 passes over the entire car which I'm afraid I wouldn't have the stamina for in one day. Claying itself is pretty easy and rather theraputic I thought. One of thos

Don't know the answers to most of those questions, but I'm sure I've read it's a fairly simple upgrade but it's done with the R32 discs as well as the calipers.
-
What sort of power does Stealth's £2700 rebuild give? The R32 is only about 240bhp isn't it? A standard 4motion engine is 204bhp. Mine's only got an air filter, cat back exhaust, Schrick and a remap and produces 209bhp. If it's just a bit more power you're after there must be more economical ways to get it and still achieve standard reliability without resorting to an R32 lump. Although, didn't it sound good in that clip!

Or our very own dlea has his own garage in Wilmslow.

I used to run on Optimax but found it ran better when I couldn't get it one day and filled up with normal 95 ron. It seems the Optimax used to drop it's ron value quite quickly as it was artificially boosted using an additive which went off quick quickly. this is probably why it's been replaced with V-Power which supposed to be a different formula. I found Esso 97 to be better and the Tesco 99 to be about the same but a little cheaper. The Tesco stuff is made by a green/bio fuel company and achives the high rating through refinement rather than additives. Mine's mapped to use 98 though so d

Changed my oil today to be ready but I've been sick all week +o( so I couldn't be bothered washing it or stopping up the little blow I've got on the cat. I expect I'll lose a bit for that but my head hurts so it'll have to do. I'll be at the Windmill for 8.30am then. Must remember to get some extra fuel on the way! *EDIT* Crap! I just realised it's NEXT WEEK!! lol That's what happens after spending a week sick in bed... brain damage! Damn, I've made a load of arrangements to cover it off tomorrow too. Ah well, at least I get a lie in tomorrow and get to watch the grand prix. -

8.30 sounds fine to me. I think I know that one. If you've come up the M6 from the south, you turn left onto the A556 at the roundabout at the top of the slip road and it's not too far along that road. In fact... http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=windmill+inn,+knutsford&sll=54.162434,-3.647461&sspn=11.802883,33.046875&ie=UTF8&ll=53.310468,-2.418923&spn=0.005872,0.016136&z=16&om=1 -
:$ There are always exceptions to a rule

Hmmm, a few on my list; 911 GT3 (popular choice that one!) Mini CooperS 1275 (circa 1970's like my last one) R32 golf uprated with turbo Ferrari 246 Dino
-
Damn, I was all fired up for slagging off BMW drivers. Good joke though.

Careful, that site is riddled with viruses that try and install the moment you open the window.

Thinking of bringing my son but not sure whether he'll be bored or not - I know, how could you possibly be bored running cars on a rolling road I guess he's not so much of a petrolhead tbh Anybody else planning to bring children? He got pretty bored at inters so I'm 50/50 whether it's a good idea or not. -
The supersprint exhausts are supposed to give the performance increases with minimal noise over the OE exhausts. Have one fitted to mine and it does sound pretty much standard.
-
Oooh interesting. Keep us updated!
-
Oh... and if they put either of those in they want shooting, or at least avoiding in the future. You're heading into winter you don't want a 15w oil in there when the engine is specced for a maximum cold thickness of a 10w oil. I'd drain and replace asap (filter will be OK obviously).
-
0w-40 isn't thin, when hot it's exactly the same thickness (but with higher film strength) as a 10w-40 semi-synthetic oil. It just flows better when cold as it's thinner at that point, but it's never thinner than when it's hot. Flowing better when cold is good, 0w-40. Too thin when hot is bad, 5w-30. 0w-40 which will be a fully synthetic should be just fine. There are some great resources about oil on the net, have a look if interested - otherwise just use any oil that meets or exceeds the standards.
-
No I don't think so. They seem to rattle at about 1200rpm as that's probably between what the spring can easily hold and before the hydraulic bolt pressure is taking up the tension. At idle mine's completely silent chain wise and the same from approx 1600rpm up. Could just as easily be tappets though as mentioned. Try flushing/diesel oil cleaning/switching to synthetic whichever takes your fancy to remove any deposits likely to be affecting oil flow. Ordered in terms of strength of cleaning (detergent levels).
-
Ouch! I thought my chain was a bit noisy but that's awful.
-
Is it a tapping or a rattling? Could be the timing chains rattling on the guide rail. Mine and a number of others do this with various causes...
-
Yeah, could be 120 I thought is was about 115 but it's around there that it sharply drops off from what I remember. 106 should be fine on a semi synthetic of the correct spec anyway.
-
I'm pretty sure 106 is perfectly normal if you're up around that speed. I think the Quantum Silver oil (semi synthetic) is specced upto a constant temp of 115c before it suffers premature degradation.
-
Upper timing chain tensioner info?
Buzzark replied to Buzzark's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
OK, the chain noise is back. I'm pretty sure it's an oil feed to the tensioner bolt issue. I've a feeling running the synthetic has loosened some varnish/crud and the bolt is struggling to get enough pressure to pump it up at low revs. Those feed holes are pretty tiny. I have the old bolt, which I'm fairly sure is actually fine. I might try increasing the oil feed holes on it and also getting some wire in the feed to the bolt area to poke through any potential blockages. Maybe it's just time to stick a flush through the engine and try that too. If a prefilled bolt quietens it down, I can't -
