  1. Hi Dave I'll meet up with you as long as you promise not to go too fast. I'm afraid I'm a bit of a sedate driver where the limits are concerned. Think I'll be running but I'll pay the deposit whatever. Still got some concerns over my upper chain tensioner but it's fine on the road so really it shouldn't be any different on a rolling road. *Edited because none of it made sense*
  2. Yeah, there's a bit of money in the airbag systems to replace but not most of the cost. You've got the airbag control unit (I think that's a one shot deal?), both airbags and the seat belt tensioners. Just over £1000 for those I think. Insurance companies...
  3. I can see them fine. Nice mk1 golf there and I can't believe they wrote off your 4motion for that, it's barely bent.
  4. Thought about what you said Craggsy and you're right. Starting with fully painted bumpers and trim on a highline would mean that it just wouldn't look right fitting textured arches. Of course I could paint the arches to match and that would look fine, but by the time I've done that cost and time wise, it would probably just be more sensible to replace the wings if that's what's required. Bought a pair of the front mudflaps today as this appear to be the cause of the damage to the wings in the first place. I'll pull the wings off individually and asses whether I can completely treat what appea
  5. I like them with or without tbh and if the body was galvanised and not prone to tin worm I probably wouldn't bother. Got a lot of expenses this year with the house and I don't really want to be replacing the wings etc just at the moment. May paint the trims later though depending on how I feel after they're fitted.
  6. I realise this is flying in the face of public opinion, but I like the plastic arches! I've also got a bit of rusting around the front arches which I will take care of but want to cover this up. I bought a set from GSF over the counter yesterday but they just don't fit, not even close at the rear and fixable but not perfect at the front. They'll be going back next weekend, so is there anywhere I can get a better set from?
  7. I take it that's just a single run each? I voted DynoDemon btw, less distance offsets the £10 extra costs for me.
  8. Yes, I think I'm going to shorten the interval on mine. I just changed it with about 7/8000 miles since it's last change and it was far dirtier than I thought. Looked fairly clear on the dipstick but much darker when I drained it although it wasn't sludgey at all. I've just switched to fully synthetic to clean it out without resorting to an engine flush so it's a couple of quick changes on mine as it'll be removing quite a bit of varnish as the detergents clean.

    tracking

Helen, I use etyres.co.uk for my tyres. Good service, excellent prices and will fit at your workplace/home. I like the Toyo Proxes T1-R - excellent grip in the wet, which is handy in a VR. Everyone has their favorites though.
  10. You're welcome. But I can't take all the credit, I just copied what Mr VW wrote. Really does make you wonder where your service money goes at the dealers doesn't it!

    tracking

I think you'll find they pretty much all do that anyway Helen. Just had mine adjusted but it was nearly spot on. They follow the camber a lot as well, lots of people complain about them wandering left but it's pretty normal. Just had a flick through my service history, it's had the tracking/full wheel alignment done 16 times (at least!). Ooh, make that 17. A slow puncture in my rear left was causing mine to pull left more. Fitted new tyres (Toyo Proxes T1-R) and driving down the centre of the road and the car holds straight, staying in the left lane it will gently pull to the kerb.
  12. According to my official service manual which is from the US but it's the same as the handbook service schedule: 01 Vehicles with more than 5,000 miles (7,500 Km) mileage performance per year: Second battery (Golf Ecomatic): Check electrolyte level, add distilled water if necessary Battery, checking Fuel filter: Drain water Engine oil: Drain or extract and fill; replace oil filter Brake pads: Check thickness of front and rear disc brake pads Service interval display: Reset Service sticker "Your next service event": Enter a cross at "Next service" and apply sticker to drivers si

    Buying a VR6

That looks damn good value for money.
  14. There was a red Stylehaus 111k VR6 trimmed in cream leather and perfect body up for £2400 at edition38. Looked an absolute bargain, I was almost tempted not to replace our boiler and buy that instead... almost.
  15. I think you might become a listed attraction next year Tony. All those £30k conversion show cars are too much, watching somebody else do a service is far more interesting, that's something we can all relate to!

    tracking

Yeah, tracking won't fail an MOT unless it's a badly worn tyre failing due to the tracking...?
  17. 30 second review of the show; Good company, great sunburny weather, decent food, very busy, good turnout on VR6OC stand Saturday, stellar turnout on Sunday, lots of nice motors, idjit youfs riding on roofs and bouncing off rev-limiters throughout the night (pffft!), yummy Dime bar milkshake Saturday, milkyshakers closed on Sunday (Boo!!!). First campover show for me, will definately try and get to more as I really enjoyed this one. Will bring ear plugs or drink more to aid future sleep though.
  18. Cool, thanks Craggsy. See you in the morning. Futch - the consensus seems to be around 8am ideally but 9am might be OK. I'm going to aim for 8am and look like a zombie upon arrival. :-#
  19. There's a few around me in Stockport, not seen any OC stickers though.
  20. Made a trip to Decathlon today to pick up some camping bits I can't find since the house move - little stove, ground sheet, mallet... did they have ANYTHING I went in for? no, they did not. No disaster, got a tent, mat and bag at least. lol Better check out the e38 forums, if I need to be there 8am Saturday morning I'm up at about 4.30am... feck!
  21. Wow Dave 500 amps at 12 volts = 6000 Watts. i.e. 6kW That's a bloody big generator - can I bring a 3 bar electric fire in case we get chilly?
  22. Edition38 have now updated the flyer to a more useful FAQ about the event: http://www.edition38.com/
  23. Don't like the 2 tone look myself but the orange pearl is really nice. Not sure I'd be able to drive a car in orange though, I'm a bit old for that now. If you want to change the paint but still keep it individual looking, single colours and clean lines will get you more nods. The back should never be that much lower than the front, apart from looking wrong it's just plain dangerous. Nice wheels btw.
  24. Looks good damo and Mulberry is always a head turner.
