  1. Does a Schrick inlet for a corrado also fit a golf? I'm looking at a 96/97 highline, if that helps. Thanks.
  2. Will the Corrado one fit a golf? I couldn't see it in the for sale section btw. ?!
  3. Not really, it's a valid point affecting the running costs. Servicing especially at a VAG dealers is a big part of the running costs, it's not just fuel and insurance.
  4. OK, that highline on eBay was an insurance write-off. Hence the low milage, was probably sitting in a salvage yard for 3 years. Shame, it's the only car that doesn't seem to be at the opposite end of the country from me. lol
  5. Stockers - is that your car? What's the spec? I'm also interested in that ebay highline but the lack of info isn't great. I'm going to try and look at it first. The last one I looked at was decribed as mint, full history, original paint, well loved example with 123k on it. It turned out to be very tatty, patchy service history, 7 panels painted with 136k on the clock. Buyer beware! However is still went like stink and didn't rattle or squeak. I'm going to try and look at it but I think without full history you have to set aside money or at least expect to be paying a certain amount extra a
  6. How come chargers are "affordable" these days, not that many years ago even thinking of fitting a charger or a turbo to N/A engine would have been a 6 month and never quite right ongoing project. What's changed that you can now just bolt these things on and go? It used to involve machining of either heads or pistons, replacing the electronics, carbs/injectors etc.
  7. Oh see, now you're just going to set me off wanting one of those! Expensive carbon intake right?
  8. I went to see a highline today, not been in a VR6 before. It was tatty, unloved and covered in silicon cockpit shine... also 136,000 miles instead of the 123,000 stated ~ Anyhow, I went in it and I have to say, I wasn't expecting it to be as fast having a 0-60 time of 7.? I'd previously chosen then ruled out a Mivec FTO as on paper it seems fast enough but lacked grunt when driving. The VR6 left me totally convinced that nothing else will do! Just not that one... !lol I'm just looking for the right car now.
  9. I've already looked at and driven a few FTO's including the Mivec engined ones. Given the 0-60 official time of 7.2 secs for the Mivec I was stunned how slow it felt. Basically it really has no torque and needs to be thrashed - great if that's what you're looking for but I wanted something that would respond when I put my foot down. On the other hand I drove my first VR6 highline today which was a bit tatty and unloved (so I didn't buy it) and had a mooded exhaust on it only and it wiped the floor with the FTO imho, there was no comparison - mountains of power right through the rev range.
  10. IT systems engineer. I like it most of the time, but it's pretty slow. The better I do my job, the less people notice me... nobody's spoken to me for 3 months. !shy
  11. Hi, I'm just starting to look around for a VR6, I expect the insurance money from somebody hitting my car will come through in a couple of weeks. I have a few questions about cars with milage on them and general longevity etc; I'm aiming for a highline around 96/97 because I'd like the aircon and leather. In another thread someone mentioned that it might be better buying one with 140k on it rather than a 70-80k one. On that note: 1. What sort of milage is the VR6 good for, i.e. is 100k+ just run in? 2. The mk3 as a whole, does it stay sharp and solid (new feeling) still up around that sort of
  12. Oh, that's interesting. I was going to look for one as low as I could get, maybe that's the wrong thing to do. :? I've just started another thread (so not to hi-jack this one) along those lines.
  13. I recently went through this torturous decision making recently before deciding to go VR6 (probably highline). The 328i is a great car but the image is just too bad these days. I asked around friends and EVERYONE I found hates them. They are just too posy and flash, people assume you're a social climber just for buying one. TBH I'd have preferred the 328i if it had a nice friendly Skoda badge on it. Oddly enough, the only friends I found who were exceptions to the rule are all members of the "golf club" brigade, the badge still carries cache in those circles it seems. If you do still want o
