I'd forgotten about this thread. I've since found out that the later mk3's are galvanised, at least in VW marketing speak.. They have a "galvanised coating" to the outer skins only of the body panels (front wings, doors, bonnet and boot lid) I guess then it's some help against stone chips and scratches but being basically a sprayed on paint, it's not quite the same as a hot dipped Audi. In the case of the front wings on mine it seems the previous owners thorough application of waxoil actually created a moisture trap as water didn't drain as it would normally actually increasing potential front

I think that's a bug Karr-Man, seems to happen from time to time. As for the original post/PM that's the 25 pin ABS control module connector. Unfortunately I can't see what pin that might be, it doesn't seem to match up with my wiring diagram (which is pretty poor) sorry. One of the brown wires off this goes to the ABS dash light module, is that working normally or has it been disabled?

Upper timing chain tensioner info?
Buzzark replied to Buzzark's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
£31 from a VW dealer Mike. They just unscrew, dribble a little oil during the process and screw back in again. 5 minutes including looking for a bloody big socket in the bottom of your toolbox. -
Upper timing chain tensioner info?
Buzzark replied to Buzzark's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Thanks for the response but I don't think that's the issue I have. It really does seem like it's the oil feed to the bolt that's causing the problem. I've previously checked the chain and is doesn't seem stretched at all and the tensioners are pretty much unmarked. I suspect they'd be fairly heavily grooved if the tension was enough to stretch the chain and I'm not so sure the tensioner itself could take the 2-300+ lbs/in it would require. However, it could be a perfectly valid point - do you have any links to the forums you mentioned so I can also read up? It would be the pressure relief v -
DYNO DEMON RR DAY SUN 28TH OCT... RESULTS ON P24...

Bah, never uploaded anything to YouTube before - isn't it reaaalllyyy slow? Took about 4 hours and wasn't even tickling my upload connection. Anyway, I created a playlist of all the cars by the order they were run in apart from the missing first one. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5B0E4FD2EA491D56 Difficult to get the figures on the display at that resolution, had I known I'd have just pointed at the cars. However, the sound picked up really well. Enjoy. -

DYNO DEMON RR DAY SUN 28TH OCT... RESULTS ON P24...

Had a good day though went to bed as soon as I got home, hopefully I haven't passed on the dreaded lurgy to anybody. Got some low res video of each car except the 1st one (sorry Andy). Any suggestions of where to put them online? Here's the lineup off all the cars that attended; [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1193599325_2551_FT197755_lineupsmall.jpg][/lightbox] Full size version available here - http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/Buzzark/VR6OC/photo#5126469462978066802 Happy with my figures, I already expected them to be a little lower than it's last run at Stealth (209bhp/210lbft) from before -
It has detergents added so it should do. Probably works out more expensive using it just for the detergents than adding a branded detergent when you fill up or every now and then though.

Ah, mine has the Hella ones on probably why there's been no problem for me.
-
Oddly enough, I preer the look of the old shape. I think they've taken some of the definition away with the current version. It's still a good looking car though.
-
Damn, I missed that. Don't really get to watch 5th gear, I think I'm out when it's normally on and forget to record it.

Maybe just a bit..

It can always be a lot worse! How come it failed on the crystal lights? Mine passes just fine with them.

I need to loose some weight! Who has the lightest VR?
Buzzark replied to Lizard Racing's topic in General Chat
Off original topic I know but why a 16v Pete? Thought you were dropping your engine in? -
The Tesco 99 is a very good fuel by all accounts. Made by a small bio/green fuel company but reaches it's rating through it's highly refined bio part rather than an octane booster. Read an independant lab test report on it and from a technical point of view was rated above Optimax and BP Ultimate, pre V power though and there wasn't much in between any of them really. I use that or the Esso 97 personally. Edit: The 99 Tesco isn't from the same supplier as the other Tesco fuels...

That's not really a great sign is it? Fine having different interests and everything but where's the balance? I don't know any of your background but that sort of situation sounds really sad. :-( -
Not sure I get that, you'd be struggling to find anything going back a while that isn't clear over base. Most non-metalics/flats are still clear over base. It shouldn't really make any difference what sort of paint it is though. What colour is yours M&Mtttt? Just as an extra note - clay isn't for polishing or buffing the surface shiny etc. All it's there for is removing embedded and bonded crud/tar/fragments/contaminates from the surface. The polishing and paint correction is the next and seperate step with other products.

Looking at your specs in the signature, you'll probably just get less traction by lightening it! Removing the seats etc will probably save you about 25kg if you're putting a couple of lighter seats back. -
Normally they're fine, I think I paid about £15 for mine. You still need VAG.COM itself, but you can use the free version which is cut down a bit but still very useful. Useful enough that I never got round to buying the full license version myself.

Mmm pedantry cake, that sounds posh! Does it have cream and icing and sprinkles?? -
Nice long list of things to do before I go to the Ring....

Well maybe that's an extra hour or so on top by the sound of it. Sounds a bit more like it and cheaper like that than an AA/RAC inspection for peace of mind. -

lol, M&Mtttt you're obsessed! hellsVR6, that does sound a lot for a service considering what's done in one. We're they also giving the car a full inspection at your request? Charging labour again for fitting an induction kit also seems pretty cheeky, unless the only charged you for the 5-10 minutes it takes and were being thorough splitting it up? I won't bring my spare induction kit on Sunday, I see you're already sorted in that department. -
With unlimited cash, the VR6 should be able to achieve very big power figures. This thing is though, engines like the 1000bhp skyline bear very little resemblence to the production unit. Custom block, head, crank, rods, pistons etc cost the money but it's only really an engine that fits in the same place as the original... That said, I believe Carpi's engine when it was at 580bhp (season 4?) ran on a stock bottom end and did the whole season without a rebuild. I've read it was originally designed with the option of being dieseled which is why they went with the timing chain instead of a belt.
