  1. I got the Peter Russek book very basic I thought,as for going to fords they could not come anywhere close to the prices I paid for all the stuff I am doing admitidley they are QH parts or First line but the saving on main stealers is masive.
  2. One way to check if it is the disc is to check the runout, if you do not have the correct tool you can improvise using 2 straight edges like steel rulers and a pair of mole grips,hold 1 upto the strut then the other at 90o and clamp with the mole grips turn the disc and you should be able to see if the disc is warped.having said that a warpt disc normaly meens that when you brake the peddle will pump up and down in time with the warp. HHave you tried taking it out of gear when coasting to see if it still happens.
  3. Thought I better err on the side of caution and brought a Hayens book for the Galaxy as ther are the same as a Sharan.

I had a rear blow out at high speed (90),it started snaking and then headed to the central resavation oh shite was all that was going through my mind and then becouse of the strain the tyre on the other side let go and I did a 180o spin and ended up facing the wrong way by pure luck the car came to a stop in the slow lane facing oncomming traffic that has all braked hard so were a 100m down the road all this in a LWB Transit.
  5. Could be your pads if they have worn to much. dose it do it at low speed or all speeds,
  6. Cheers chaps, I never gave Hammerite a thought so it withstands the heat from the brakes then.
  7. Anyone know what the best sort of paint there is for painting the calipers and disc's ( not the face I know) %-6 I just want to make them look better as you can see the clearly through the wheel spokes.

I don't look at it as what benefits I get for my tenner more of I'm serious about my VR6 and I do think that if you are a premium member you are more likely to get indepth help.I myself think that there should be more things closed to the non premium members,the site don't run itself and you get a nice VR6 sticker

I am sure I have the smaller disc's as it is a P plate so yes two sizes of those but there are also 2 types of wear indicators and 1 without so 3 pads,if I were to change to the bigger size disc's would I have to change the calipers as well or are they the same ?, as the dis'cs do not come until Wednesday morning so I have time to change my mind but no good if they won't fit. !grr
  10. Funny that at 17 I was always working on my car ( Mk1 Lotus Cortina )while my mates were out pissing all thier money away,me I was always trying to save money to try and buy extras for the car !heart
  11. Cheers for the info so far guys. alanf, there are 3 types of front pads I know becouse I have all 3 sets lol 4 including the rear, I did'nt know what I have on the car at the moment so best thought better get them all, so will have 2 sets for sale soon
  12. I normaly slacken the bleed nipple & use a big screwdriver between the pad and disc and lever them back.and the hub nut I have a 2ft 1/2" breaker bar.
  13. Could be a lead that is dodgy when it is cold and has a bit of condensation on it it misses and when the engine warms the condensation evaporates and it then fires normaly.

I am going to change all my wheel bearings , disc's and pads as well as the outer front CV joints this week hopefuly Wednesday, is there any problems that could arise that would hold up getting it finished in a day. I have no specialist tools just a big club hammer and chissel but I do know my way around a car. Any pre known pos problem would be helpful.

  17. I Think that is the unit number under or by the word Bosch the part number should be at the top with 1 or 2 letters after it.

When my auto box changes into 3rd I get a squeeking noise well just one squeek if I play with the throttle so as to make the box change smoothly the squeek is quieter if I am red linning it the squeek is louder, it dose not do it in anyother gear only 2nd to 3rd gear. I was thinking the gearbox or an engine/gearbox mount. any idea's :!
  19. Dose it only do it on bumps , have you tried slowing as if there were bumps on a flat road, also up a hill so the car is under load.
