Injectors and fuel cosumption
Justicevr6 replied to Justicevr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Can't find the site or person I got the information from but it is true, if you open the drivers door and put the key in the ignition and turn it on but don't start it and leave for 25/30 seconds it will reset and calibrate the throttle body,I don't know about OB1 but it works on my OB2. -

There could be a bit of dirt/mud on the sensor that is stopping it from reading, you could try and clean it but that's about as much as you can do,there are no servicable parts in it.

I remember a little while ago I saw a thread on another forum about mot rules I just found it and it says as long as the car is under the required reading it will still pass. http://www.motester.co.uk/motquiz.html .

I have a couple of questions about taking the cat out of the system. 1.Whats stopping you from smashing the cat out of the pipe 2.Would it affect the basic running of the car 3.Would it pass the MOT with it removed Cheers.

GPS speed camera detector.
Justicevr6 replied to Justicevr6's topic in Parts, Suppliers and Companies
I even found a couple on E bay for as little as -
I have just been given a Micro Fuzion speed camera detector to play with,I fitted it to my VR6 and within 3 mins it was locked onto the gps signal and I was off,It tells you when you are approching a static camera and tells you what the road speed is and even tells you to slow down if you are going to fast,it will also let you know if there is a mobile speed camera in operation. The digital display tells you your speed (this has about a second delay before matching the speedo reading) clock, distance traveled, top speed ,average speed, and lots more, but in my opinion the best bit of it is there

Injectors and fuel cosumption
Justicevr6 replied to Justicevr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
The only problem with that is, I am a singer so need to put my P.A equipment and keyboard in the back and there is no room for an extra tank, if they did one that went under the floor then it would be a thing worth doing but all the one's I have seen are behind the rear seat. . -
Injectors and fuel cosumption
Justicevr6 replied to Justicevr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I am going to fill the tank to the brim today and the re fill Sunday, then I should be able to work out the true MPG as some of it is round town and some will be motorway. As for air leaks plugs filter etc. everything is new. I will post my results on Sunday ?! -
Injectors and fuel cosumption
Justicevr6 replied to Justicevr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
My owners hand book say 1861 unladen but with driver and 2450 max load. But hey I'm not bothered about that I just wanted to improve the MPG,I spoke to the wife about getting shot of it for a diesel but she won't let me as the car drives like new and said would be hard pushed unless I spent lot of money to get a diesel that drives as nice as the VR6. Looks like I will have to just buy shares in an oil company. -

I have done a throttle body alignment check but did not use Vag com as you can do it by opening the drivers door and turning on the ignition, you will here a high pitch sound followed by a clunk, Job done. Doing this has made the car much more responsive but the trip mpg still remains the same. Ah well keep on trying %-6 . -
Injectors and fuel cosumption
Justicevr6 replied to Justicevr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I will give it a try doing the MPG by miles covered but I think the trip is right as all I seem to do is fill the car up with fuel, what made me think injectors is when I drive normaly there seem to be a lot of throttle movement with no increase in speed ( unless it kicks down)I know the blow on the exhaust would'nt help but it is such a slight blow there is no way it would affect it that much. I have cleaned the throttle body and also ajusted the throttle cable so I think a Throttle Body Alignment check with Vag-com might be an idea. Will post my findings if and when I sort out my problems. -
I am getting very poor MPG from my VR6 auto the in car readout averages about 13mpg and that is driving normaly round town, I use the M4 quite a lot and road permiting drive at 90mph and the average MPH is about 15.5 mpg acording to the trip meter. Could it be that the injectors need replacing/sevicing,and is this an easy job to do. I have done a full service and replaced everything including a new MAF.I do have a very slight blow on the exhust (unless you get under the car you can't hear it) Any idea's &|

Bristol I got up this morning at 6:30 and it was a blanket of snow on everything,I took my daughter to school and parked back on my drive as I got out of the car I heard a muffled bang and a car had overshot the T junction straight into a Saxo, the woman who owned the Saxo came running out of her house arms flapping and then bugger me 30 min later some one else did the exact same thing,it was after the second crash she moved her car to the other side of the road %-6 . By 12 oclock the sun had melted all but the shaded area's.

Ross Tech is the best place to download the software in my opinion the software you need is 3.12 or 4.08 if you buy a dongle cable then there is a newer version of Vag Com you can down load. The cable itself is not some thing you will get from a shop you will need to buy from ebay or from a Vag com dealer, Ross Tech http://www.ross-tech.com/index.html or Skpang http://www.skpang.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=41&products_id=83&osCsid=634622125ed845efe2a825649dd92fa0 this is in the UK, On ebay you can get a cable for about

Doing a thermostat is quite a simple job to do albeit a bit fiddly, it is located under the coil pack, when you buy a thermostat make sure you get the housing rubber gassket as well as the thermostat one.

CV joint and wheel bearing replacement
Justicevr6 replied to Devilfish's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Very easy job to do,and as long as you are careful you do not need a press.knock the old bearing out and use it to hit the new bearing in,as happy Gilmore would say "tap it in just tap it in,tap tap tap" CV is a simple job as well.
