  4. Could be and engine mount and somthing is rubbing through movment of engine or inner drive shaft.

Ok thanks for advice so far but what I think I need to do is understand what dose what on the air sytem,I do know what a lot of the stuff is but lets pretend I'm thick %-6 What is the job of the maf and all the other sensors that are on the air /fuel system, the one that is ticking is from the oil breather, what is that for, also when I unplug some sensors including the mass air it dose not seem to make any difference to the way the car ticks over, Last thing dose Elsa win or Bently explain how thing work or are they just repair information.
  7. I am sure mine is ODB 2 1996. I have just ordered a Vag com lead and fault code reader from USA on ebay but have to wait until it arrives, don't know how long that will be,not sure if that will tell me my problem or not hence this post for help.

I have finished the running gear and today dicided to start on the engine as it is not a quick as it should be,I have done the plugs ,leads ,coil pack etc. I cleaned the hall sender thanks to Nerih's post, Right the problem I have is sometimes when I slow for a junction the rpm drops to 400 then come back up straight away I had the bonnet open today and could hear air sucking /blowing from near the throttle body I have checked all the pipes and cannot find a leak,when I pulled back the throttle from under the bonnet it sounds as if there is no air filter,next to the airbox there is a small pip

  14. I'm afraid that is is a matter of keep looking although it dose sound electrical. I know this won't solve the problem but it would get the car through the MOT. diconect the abs light from behind the dials and conect the low fuel light instead,when the ignition is switched on the abs light comes on and then goes off making it seem as all is OK, Whilst this is not a fix for your problem it would get the car through the MOT and must be changed back and the cause of the fault found, if you had to do an emergency stop in the wet the ABS might not stop you in a straight line and could cause a bad cr
  15. If you were to bare the wires back open them up ind interlink the cables while twisting them and then seal it with solder then wrap in insulation tape it will give you a much better conection than conectors.
