Hi mate. Lots of good cat back exhausts out there. I personally chose Milltek because it isn't loud ...just slightly deeper than stock unless you floor it when it will really howl... and with a BMC when you accelerate it's like a growling muscle car! The Milltek fits absolutely perfectly. Even Stealth who do all brands said it fitted extremely well and was very good quality. However Supersprint and Jetex are supposed to be very good too. Jetex is bigger at 2.5" bore and will also sound louder too than a Milltek. Supersprint will have the same noise level as a Milltek. Supersprint are suppo

Sounds similar to the twin turbo HPA r32 that was in Golf+ a while back... cost £9k for the conversion but you get 450bhp!
-
Tis a very nice car Jon. I had my MOT yesterday and passed no problems (unlike previous cars I've owned!).

Stealth are definitely one of the best and one of the cheapest for remaps at £300+vat. Many remaps cost £400+. www.stealthracing.co.uk is their website and they are based in Stoke near Stratford Upon Avon... south of Birmingham in the midlands. Not sure where Southend is in relation to Stealth... but from London you're looking at about an hour, maybe an hour and a half. Takes me 2 and a half hours and I live right down on the south coast... well worth the trip mate. What mods have you got? The remap on an odb2 won't give extra power (it may actually reduce power very slightly in some ca

m3anni... yet again we clash! I was under the impression shorter gear changes (for example DSG in the golf gti) improved the overall 0-60 time. Of course it doesn't make the car go 'faster'...LOL. But what I meant is surely if it takes less time to actually change gear you are also taking time of the total it takes to reach certain speeds...mainly quarter miles as these require a lot of gear changes. Anyway, cadguy (what's your name mate by the way..never caught it when we were down the Phirm) did the short shift reduce side to side motion as well as forward to back, or just forward to bac

Wee tapping noise from engine
matth76 replied to Norrisvr6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Tappets by the sound of it. All VR6 engines are noisy and tappety. Chains will be a background raspy noise as well as the tappet noise...so if you can only hear one noise it sounds more likely to just be noisy tappets...nothing to worry about. How many miles has your car done? -
faulty E/window has a mind of its own
matth76 replied to regs's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
My driver e/window is playin silly buggers... won't move sometimes unless I fully lower or close the passenger window - as if moving the passenger window gives it 'power'!! Then when I want to close the driver window it will go up half way and then suddenly come back down... so have to incrementally close it to get it past this strange 'half way' point. Good luck fixing yours mate. Let us know if you find out what the prob is. -
Hi mate. Blimey you didn't take long to get your short shift! Tim's short shift's did look good. Which one did you end up going for...did you go for a very short 'race' one or one inbetween? Is it very easy to select the 'correct' gear etc and do you think your car accelerates faster due to the shorter shift? I'm popping over to The Phirm next Sat so will speak to Tim more about his quick shifts. (Did you have to let your ins. company know about the quick shift?..is it something they would know or even detect! Mine (Elephant) got real confused when I mention any kinds of mods to them!)

Hi I've just bought second hand 268 Eurospec cams for a golf vr6. I have been told they have done approximately 2k miles. They are silvery grey and I have noticed there are some random grooves/nicks right all the way down one of them... it looks as though it is from wear and tear, and also some strange reddish speckling on one of the 'lobes' where it would normally be silver... my question is will cams normally have a some scuffs and nicks like this etc if they have done around 2k miles?.. I assume they will if they are right in the head of the engine... but need to find out what these nicks a

Not sure on prices of turbo kits. I know they are probably more expensive than a supercharger normally...mainly because there don't seem to be any easy ways to bolt a turbo on a right hand drive car... not a prob with left hand cars though.
-
Dubsingh...nice story lol. What power are you running under the bonnet?
-
When I was at the phirm Tim was talking about some guy who did what you did....must have been you. Glad you got it sorted mate..looks bad!

How much does it cost to have a Gas flowed head or (even more expensive) Big valve head on a golf VR6 at Stealth Racing? Has anyone else had this done... how much did it cost and what were the approx power gains? Is it cheaper to have this done at the same time as having new cams put in - would the labour cost be much more on top of having the cams fitted?
-
I had them on all 4 corners about 2 years ago. Moved the fronts to the back 1 year later and changed only last week with the fitting of new wheels. And the tyres STILL have plenty of tread left on them :-) And believe me my tyres get some stick ! If they were not so expensive I would not think twice about getting them again. Hopefully when my Proxes become bare the F1 prices will have dropped. :-) Which tyres do you have...Toyo's or F1's? I'm looking to get some F1's but not sure on the price or whether they do my size: 205/50/15 (I have the standard 15" wheels and run 205 width tyres - don'

Supercharger kits over here are expensive too at between 2-3k at least! If you're going the normally aspirated tuning route like me then 268 cams give around 10-15bhp increase - the cost can vary - shrick/eurospec as supposed to give more linear power increases throughout the rev range as opposed to high end power only. You could get a free flowing inlet manifold (although this can be expensive if it's a Shrick inlet manifold - but gives extremely good torque increases). Or a free flowing 6 branch exhaust manifold - and get some uprated engine mounts too to keep the engine stable. If you g

I haven't tried that. Looks similar to a spacer. Do special plastic cam covers lower temps in the engine on n/a cars as well (on their own)? Mighty vr6 where did you get your stainless steel cam cover?

Hi mate... welcome to the forum. I don't personally have experience with an auto although I'm sure someone else on here will answer your questions... I know there are one or two auto owners on here. Sounds to me either like an led bulb needs looking at as you suggest or a fuse has gone and needs replacing. In my personal experience if you take it to a vr6 specialist they will have far more knowledge and experience as opposed to a main dealer plus you pay half the price. Cheers Matt

A lightly modded late model vr (just an exhaust and filter) will out perform either on 0-60 as well midrange. Pimp why do you ask? Were you thinking of getting one ( ?

Sounds like my colour which is apparently called "mystic blue"... normally looks dark blue but has a tint of purple in certain light. When it's sunny it looks perfect..really deep blue! Sounds like a good buy you have there...excellent mileage!
