  1. i paid nearly 5oo for a remap and injector change i dont use the chip and have taken it out as it overfuelled like hell till warm and ran crap most of the time. i,m talking huge clouds of black smoke i replaced the old eip chip and put the standard injectors back in. made 365 bhp though according to the graph since then i read on the forum vinces rolling road is at its limit at about 320 so i dont know how he managed to pull it off
  2. i had a loose connection on the main engine harness plug it was an injector wire, took me ages to figure it out but the car runs fine now
  3. charge cooler and relocate the battery to the boot thats the way i plan to go
  4. i am paying £1000 for a full respray with loads of mods its taken 6 weeks so far and will be ready next week i did supply 2 new vw wings a new late model bumper a new grill and new black front lip they are going to smooth the rear bumper paint the tailgate spoiler, side skirts ,derust and fill as the rear arches were on their way out, all the window rubbers were taped back, and the rust sorted out under the rubbers, treated and painted,so it seems i got a bargain no wonder i have had to wait 6 weeks
  5. i agree i have had the same trouble as the car is in the paint shop and have taken off the wheel arch trims (as requested) i need a cl 3 door set because of the difference in depth between the vr and the cl side trims you can refit the vr6 side badges on to the cl trims, with a bit of work
  6. says me with a massive intercooler you will be glad to know i have removed it and have fitted a late vr6 front bumper
  7. i think the designer for the golf vr6 got it right 1st time
  8. ive got a spare rod and piston you can have if your car was forced induction i would say detonation was the problem, does the piston look melted at all ? the other option could be piston failure a small crack has developed due to manufacturing, the fact that it looks as if a large piece has come away from the back, the depth of the scab looks pretty even, and this has lay dormant untill you put the components under severe pressure. another option could be the oil spray nossle which sprays oil on to the underside of the pistons to cool them, has blocked or failed causing overheating. Cast pis
  9. anyone know who will do a top job on a vr crank 1st hand experiences prefered engine seized and the pistons and bores look fine so i am getting set up to have the crank checked and regound
  10. thanks for the support every one i will be stripping the car down starting thursday morning so i hope the new samco hoses i got on the group buy arrive by then. she will breath fire again soon (li)
  11. today left for work as usual and the car was running great somehow the uprated oil cooler fell off the underneath of the car and was left in the road bleeding oil i later found out the welds had fractured on the bracketsthe nuts i put in to hold the cooler up are still attached to the car i heard a noise and thought it was a plastic bottle that i had just run over moments later the oil light came on so i dropped out of gear and coasted in to a lay by turned the ignition off and got under to have a look oil every where aa was called out and towed me back home i have just ordered anew oil cooler
  12. damn shame i feel gutted for you sounds like the head gasket to me no compression on no1 means 1 valve knackered intake or exhaust 2 rings gone 3 cylinder is cracked 4 gasket blown there are only 4 ways for the compression to escape is there any bubbles coming back through to the coolant header tank when she ticks over? you can get a test done which looks for hydrocarbons in the coolant, a sure sign of a blown gasket, take a sample of the coolant to a garage, any good garage should have this test, they may do it for free. in the end no compression on no1 = head off for a looksee
  13. been over 160 on the speedo off the clock at about 6800 rpm (chromoly rod and forged pistons) how accurate are vr speedos.
  14. i was qouted £12000 by stealth for a 4wd conversion 2wd will have to do there are some good upgrades you can make to the 2wd box peloquin lsd or quaife 6th gear add on
  15. oil in the coolant alot of blue or white smoke out of the exhaust do a compession test oil in the coolant is not allways the cylinderhead gasket on a vr, if the oil cooler is leaking internaly, it can make it appear as if the head gasket is blown. they dont normaly go and the engines are mechanicaly very reliable if serviced regularly a warped head is more usually due to a coolant system fault or incorrect installation of the head 83000 is nowt for a vr6 engine if looked after, i stripped my 116000 mile engine to fit forged pistond and there was hardly a ridge worn in the cylinder wall i hop
  16. no the transfer box needs removing and where it fits to the gearbox needs blocking off thanks for the links vrsix5spd
