  1. the car's totally transformed! looks really cool
  2. if you know your girlfriend is likely to get scared in a high powered car, why buy it in the first place?!! Surely he must have known that!!
  3. mmm, still like it...what was it on for before?
  4. the new wheels are lovely, but so are the ones you've got on it at the moment - will you be getting rid of those?
  5. no, didn't go with coilovers - for what I use the car for (just back and forth to the train station and the occasional blast) I couldn't justify the extra expense, plus once it was at the height I wanted (around 40-50mm) I would probably have never adjusted it again! Also I've had Weitec before and loved the ride quality, i didn't want anything too harsh or bouncy which I may have got with coilovers. I'll let you know once they're fitted
  6. at last, I've got my suspension on order, should be with my mechanic by the end of the week. In the end I went for Weitec just because I know it (I had it on my last Mk3 VR and loved the ride quality and handling), so now can't wait to have a decently lowered car and one that doesn't handle like a barge! I'll get some pics up when it's all fitted
  7. so not too expensive then - handy! I'm actually going to get my suspension replaced at the same time (even though it's not required to do the mount), just figured it'd be a good opportunity to get it done, so I'm suspension shopping at the moment - woo hoo!
  8. yeah, maybe that's it - mine aren't hella definitely - maybe I'll 'upgrade' to a better set in time for next year's MOT though, but as you say could've been a lot worse.
  9. just failed on my crystal headlights (so will put the old ones back on for the re-test) and one of my front suspension mounts needs replacing, again not a major job so overall pretty happy (it's the first MOT since I've owned the car, so it was always going to be a little bit of an uknown). Could be a lot worse I reckon!
  10. my wife signed up about a year ago and all we've had is a few emails telling us it isn't ready or working yet, but they're 'working on it'. seems like a right waste of time to me at the moment
  11. why when you buy such an original car that has only ever been serviced/looked after at one VW garage, do you then go to 'performance specialists'. Surely if a car was in as original 'factory' condition like the advert says, you'd do anything to keep up the VW association with servicing etc? Maybe not, but I know I certainly would.
  12. I'm sure it used to be like this a couple of years ago didn't it? Maybe I'm wrong, but either way this is an excellent way of doing it, good stuff
  13. keeps you awake though...

    Its back

I feel a Sky + series link coming on....
  15. well I don't have kids, but I still don't want my fillings falling out!
  16. maybe that's just me getting older then, I prefer a decent ride quality these days (although have done really low in the past on MK2's)!
  17. I reckon you can't beat just a standard silver alloy - not a huge fan of painted alloys to be honest but then that's just personal preference. If you did want a colour then maybe a dark colour would contrast nicely with the silver paintwork...
  18. is the ride not really harsh at 70mm though?
  19. I'm currently looking to buy suspension and i have a very similar wheel setup to you, I think 55mm might be a bit too low - I think I'm going to stick to around 40mm to be on the safe side - the last thing I need is wheels rubbing!
  20. including camber adjustment, that should sort it.
  21. hmm, that's another idea then - your wheel does look nice I must admit - my standard wheel is a bit worn though so not sure I'd get £70 for it!! Is good to be able to offset some of the cost of the re-trim though.
  22. I'd like one of those - does anyone know of one for sale at all?

    Suspension advice

I've had Weitec on a MK3 VR before and loved them, in fact I'll probably be getting them again for my current car. The ride was fantastic for aftermarket suspension - no harshness at all.
  24. don't suppose you want to sell your steering wheel do you?! I really fancy the MK4 style airbag wheel but only the Cabrio one will fit a MK3!
