  1. i have a good block that needs oil pump and sump putting back on but has good crank and pistons in i could sell you for £50 i was going to suggest piston rings as fault till i read your last post about piston as i have had 1 that done same thing but was just piston ring and not whole piston.
  2. if your car is pre 95 and done around 100k it will prob need tensioners and chains if it is newer than this it could be just top bolt tensioner as the updated tensioners on later cars are a lot stronger than the earlier models and as matth 76 said only top tensioner bolt can be replaced without removing gbox for all other tensioner work box must come off.Carl(stoke vw spares)
  3. the smoking from cold is generally valve stem seals the status of your head gasket is easily checked with head gasket tester i generally charge between £800-£1000 to replace head gasket of which i strip head replace stem seals clean valves back up like new and reseat them all tensioners and chains new clutch new crank shaft seal.ive just rebuilt eat this car and he will vouch for me also ingham has seen my work and would vouch for me aswell im based in stoke on trent and you can reach me on 07957 204 365 .carl(stoke vw spares).
  4. im not local mate im in stoke on trent but i can help you if your stuck ,i just rebuilt eat this vr6 and he can vouch for me and ingham has seen quality ov my work aswell as i said i know your looking for someone more local but if you you find you are struggling you can reach me on 07957 204 365 cheers carl.(Stoke vw spares)
  5. i have done a couple of these conversions now i replace whole loom on pre 90 cars to bring them up to 90 spec no you cant use gti engine loom , i dont have any spare looms at mo but i do have have inlet manifolds for obd1 setup which i generally sell for around £40 hope this helps .Carl.
  6. could also be knackered lifters not opening valves hence no compression.
  7. the hole he is talking about is an oil way to oil top chain obd 1 has a little 1p size hole whereas obd 2 has a big triangle hole this is only difference ive noticed between both heads and wont affect the running i would suggest timing is out on one of cams or bent some valves when fitting.
  8. ive found if you bypass the top breather hose or if there is a blockage in top breather hose it can cause this problem where just a slight white residue in top of cap generally when car is used for lots of short journeys.
  9. Its also a good idea to get clutch done at same time and crankshaft seal aswell whilst gearbox is off i can do the lot for you and collect from wiltshire for about £1000 all in .if you need any confirmation of the quality of my workmanship you can speak to eat this as i have just done virtually the same to his also ingham will put in good word for me .if you are interested you can contact me on 07957 204 365 .cheers carl. p.s i also do stem seals ,clean all valves and reseat them while i have head off.
  10. i have had similar problems to this with vrs and 16v try inspecting all your breather and air intake hoses if they have a small split or are not sealing properly they can cause these sort of problems.
  11. have you checked the water level in your expansion bottle because you could find that your heater matrix has sprung a leak .
  12. wish i had that information before i spent a month trying to locate 1 the previous owner had connected the black hose to the clear 1 and i didnt know this option was available so i spent ages trying to locate 1 from a breaker but glad i know now cos i just bought a mk2 off ov ebay and it comes with all vr6 bits for a conversion so its definately handy to know as im sure its not gonna have a cannister with it he he.nice 1 bin.
  13. sounds a bit dangerous to me bin you only need a spark in engine bay then and fumes are gonna explode but i can see how what your saying would work.also the carbon cannister im led to believe as some affect on the way the cat works which is why all catted cars are fitted with them although im not positive on this and am sure i will be put right if wrong.
  14. if fuel pump is still working you can disconnect fuel line to engine place pipe into container and keep turning ignition on to pump it out with pump otherwise if you look behind back seat you on boot floor you should have a plate sized black metal cover screwed on undo this and you will have access to pump in top ov tank if you remove pump you can stick a hose in to tank and suck out fuel into can other than that you are left with smashing a big hole in tank which i wouldnt advise any1 to do
  15. lol thats what i did until i got a replacement carbon cannister only thing you have to remember is petrol evaporates when it mixes with air so your fuel will go down a little quicker
  16. right well yes they are right it is carbon cannister in 3rd picture but it also works as a breather for petrol tank and if removed causes big build up of pressure in petrol tank my current vr6 didnt have 1 when i bought it and when i opened petrol cap to fill up it would release excessive amounts ov built up air so i would say dont remove it as you risk blowing up your petrol tank oh also i have fitted a carbon cannister to my car now so i know for sure this was problem as i get no build up ov air in tank anymore
  17. whenever i get a car with no locking nut supplied or knackered lockers i get a strong socket and a large hammer socket has to be slightly smaller than locknut then i phisically smash socket onto lockers and undo with large knuckle bar i use an old socket extension bar in socket so as not to damage socket or bash wheel .i dont know if you have tried this method yet but thought i would suggest anyway .p.s.i have removed some really stubborn lockers in this way.
  18. he he or me i sorting it for pete tomorrow chaps so all is well
  19. basically the same lump just slightly larger on bores as far as im aware so as long as you use your dizzy engine parts on it it should be quite straight forward
  20. wilko i dont reckon it will also you need to change the plate the coilpack sits on as it doesnt have distributor hole as far as im aware
  21. as far as im aware there is a rod on end ov peddle which pushes into servo so i think this might be a bit hard for you mate im sure if im wrong some1 will put me right but this is how it works on the majority ov vehicles ive come across.
  22. also check the connectors on end ov anti rollbar joining rollbar to wishbone
  23. lol last time he had a few beers he ended up getting shaved in some awkward places prob best to stick with the joint he he he
