  1. Car is going in on Thursday for a new crank-sensor fitting after this fault was found via diagnostics. I know the guy doing the work, and know he wouldn't rip me off. After doing a search on here though I just don't feel as confident in the diagnosis. Car starts first time every time, even after stalling. When pulling up at junctions, or even just changing down a gear, revs seem to drop really quickly, and drop so far down that the engine stalls. At first this happened maybe once a week, but now might happen 5 or 6 times a day! If crank sensor was faulty would car start at all?Does this sound
  2. Iknow you've got a good rep on here Kilo, can you offer me any advice on cleaning ISV and throttle body? I realise that there's probably a guide to doing it on here but my computer isn't bringing it up . Also I don't want people to think i'm a cheap-skate if guide is only available for members. Are memberships now available again? If so how? My computer says VR6OC is still not accepting new memberships . Cheers, Kev.............
  3. Can anyone offer any more guidance please. Problem is now becoming more frequent and even more annoying ~ ! As well as above it now sometimes just increases in revs by itself when I'm stuck at a junction or lights. Revs increase to about 1200 before returning to just above 500rpm, it's also lumpy when the revs go up. Any advice appreciated, cheers, Kev.....
  4. You'll have to be patient Simon cos' I'm as mechanically minded as Frank Spencer! My car is a OBD1, where will I find ISV? Kev
  5. My VR has developed an annoying problem , was wondering if anyone has had similar probs or can offer any advice. Car is fine 99% of the time, but once the engine is warm and I have to stop at a junction or lights etc, the revs dip and the car stalls. Even if you catch the dip and try to give it some revs, it's like its decided to die. At present this is happening about once a day, the rest of the time car runs fine. Usual idle is just above 500rpm, when trying to start after stall it never starts first time although it does try to fire up. When it does start, idle has gone up to 800 - 1100rpm
  6. Disco, what sort of symptoms are you experiencing with your motor? I also have a 1994 VR6, which at the moment is causing me a bit of grief . 99% of the time its sweet as a nut but lately [particularly when it's warm], when I stop at a junction or lights etc, it sometimes dips right down in revs and then stalls. Even if you catch it in time and give it some revs it doesn't make a difference, it's like it's just decided to die.Straight afterwards it doesn't just turn over either, you've got to give it revs straight away to stop it from dying again. These symptoms seem similar to the descriptio
  7. Not used them myself but a lad I know with a TT saved a fortune on his. He got them from blackcircles.com . My nearest fitting place is Selby, but I'm sure they're all over the country. Let me know if any good caddyslammed !alien
  8. Cheers Antera and Kilokilla. Have changed relay now, toastie leather to keep the missus quiet. Regards, Aboo! !alien
  9. Have read that there is a link somewhere that enables you to listen to chain rattle, to make it easier to identify. Is this right? Does anyone know where it is? Regards, Aboo! !alien
  10. Forgive my lack of technical knowledge antera. Is the relay the one with a big plug on one end and a smaller one on the other end? Just looked under seat....... Regard, Aboo! !alien
  11. Just outside Wakefield Pete. Where is B autos mate? What have you had done there? Regards, Aboo! !alien
  12. Am going to be fitting crystal fogs and indicators over the next week or so. These should be pretty straight-forward, but any guidance appreciated. Also fitting MK 4 look crystal headlights. Has anyone got any advice on fitting these ref. getting alignment as close as possible, or is is easier taking them to local MOT centre and getting them to line them up? Regards, Aboo! !alien
  13. Best advice I've ever been given was to invest in a quality shammy leather. Paid about £25 for mine. Makes job a lot easier, and amount of water it absorbs as opposed to a cheap one is unreal. I know it seems a lot of money, but if you look after it properly it will last. I've had mine for 3 years now, Regards, Aboo! !alien
  14. As a new VR6 owner, I'm going to get my motor looked over to identify any work that may need doing to prevent any major problems, not that I'm paranoid or anything! Have read quite a lot about getting upper and lower chains and tensioners done. Also regarding head gasket needing doing at same time, as a matter of course to save on labour costs in future. Can anyone tell me tell-tale signs that these jobs may need doing? Car does seem to give off quite a lot of smoke from cold for about 15-20 minutes, and temperature gauge seems to go up quickly if stuck in traffic, but drops again quickly if h
  15. Cheers Mike and Timpletoes. Is one in Rotherham on internet also? What have you had done at these places and what did you pay? Has anyone else used these? Cheers, Aboo! !alien
