  1. Apart from removing pipes to locate the blockage I couldn't tell you, but, my coolant is always a brown colour. I have flushed it and purged it so many times over the years, but it remains brown, but is not blocked. I guess the previous owner did the same as you. So once you un block your system, be prepared for it always going brown. Also, you need to buy G12+. The 'plus' is important as it can be mixed with older G11 and G12. Its been a while since I bought it, so there may now be an imprved version of G12+
  2. Golf Mk 2 Driver Golf Mk3 Driver Golf Mk3 VR6
  3. Totally normal temperatures. Mine always is above 100 when its hot outside and I'm on the motorway. Dont worry. Mines been up to 120 odd a few summers ago when it was boiling hot outside and I was on a 4 hr trip up the motorway.
  4. Mine has done that too. I've owned my car for about 5 years and it has done it twice, always when its been hot outside. I put it down to dust.
  5. Should be ok. Have a look at the MAF to see if its dirty first though. MAF error could be caused by dodgy wires in the multi plug going into the MAF, check those too.
  6. 160k on R Plate, but second engine (1st lasted 94k)
  7. I have had the Toyos on mine in the past. They are very good, giving great grip, but the trade off is that they dont last very long - about 10k for the fronts. I currently have some Khumos (yeah I know) on the fronts and they arent exactly grippy, but seem to be lasting a long time. PS - are you running a non standard profile tyre, just that mine are 205/55/R15 on standard wheels
  8. Are you sure its engine oil? I had dripping oil, and it turned out to be powersteering flud leaking from a corroded pipe. New powersteering pipes are v expensive. I got some decent ones from the scrappy.
  9. I used to use AVG Free edition, but swapped to Avast! Free Edition. Avast needs no user interaction once set up - it updates automatically, which is good for me as I have a few users on my PC who are not very computer minded. That and the Windows vista firewall and ive had no problems
  10. I run a JL Audio 10" sub. It was there base range of the time, but it sounds very good.
  11. I'd say the same thing. I had random ABS faults, changed a bunch of sensors. Turned out to be dry solder joints in ABS ECU, which i had re-soldered. My mech told me about the swapping of the looms under back seat as well.
  12. The throttle body buzzes when it is reseting itself after you remove the battery. When I have had starting problems it was a shot battery (got a new Bosch one from GSF), and the other time it was a corroded earth strap on the starter motor - ended up replacing starter motor.
  13. Just give GSF the year of your car and they'll give you the correct one. The oil filter housing is sealable by hand, but it will be difficult as you'll / it'll be covered in oil. Can't remember if its a 32 or 36mm socket - I can check what size socket I have when I get home
  14. Yeah I meant VW dealership. But you'll be able to get what you need from GSF though. They sell MANN oil filters which are fine. Make sure you get the right filter, as they do 2 kinds for a VR6 engine. Dont think they sell the Synta oil anymore though, I think they do Fuchs semi synth instead.
  15. 1. No need to jack car up if its not lowered 2, Oil - use Semi Synth 10W40 (Synta Silver from VW) 3. Filter - Go to VW 4. Washer - VW sell a new sump nut with washer included for a couple of quid 5. Using a cheap funnel from tesco makes life easier 6. Container - I use a washing up bowl with a binliner in it. - just fits under the sump, then transfer to your empty 5L. 7. No need for torque wrench 8. 6mm Allen key not essential, but it will allow you to drain the filter housing so you dont get oil everywhere 9. 32mm socket - makes life V easy. you could use a big old monkey wrench, but filter
  16. 10w40 semi synthetic. I use the Synta Silver from VW.
  17. What date did you get pulled by the police? See the following link on the Avon and Somerset Poilce website - in particular 'DVLA Tax Exemption' and the new rule as of Sept 2008 allowing you to use your car for the first 5 working days of the month your tax runs out IF (like you) you have applied for a new tax disc and are displaying the old one. http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/information/InfoCentre/ItemDetails.aspx?sid=1215#2 and this on the 'ask the police' website https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q370.htm
  18. Easy isn't it!? Fuel filter is not a normal service item, so unless you think yours needs replacing, I'd just leave it.
  19. Yep, I would say it would be worth it. Clay it to remove dirt bonded to the paintwork, then polish then wax. The clay wont remove scratches, but it will give you a very clean surface to apply your polish to.
  20. Oil change is easy - trust me, if i can do it then im sure you can. The hardest thing to do is removing the sump nut without grazing all the skin off your knuckles and trying not to get oil all over the drive / road.
  21. I know exactly how you feel. My big ends went on 94k. Engine totalled. Got a new lump put in which has been sweet for 60k.
  22. My rear brakes stick if I leave the car with the handbrake on overnight in cold weather. Apparently water gets in to the handbrake cable / rear caliper joint and freezes which makes the caliper stick on. That may be the issue you have raher than the actual caliper. IF it is you need to replace the handbrake cable. I just dont put handbrake on when its very cold - but seeing as you're in sweden that may be a problem!
  23. If you do upgrade all four speakers, I would buy components (which is standard fitment on Vr's) for a few quid more rather than 2-way speakers. In terms of amps - I run some MB Quart componets using a 40Watt RMS Alpine V12 amp with no problems. Just be aware of big wattage claims for amps - they may not be RMS and may be just peak values.
  24. Synta Silver 10W40 semi synthetic from VW (if they still sell it that is)
  25. When I had random stalling issues it was down to corroded wires in the MAF multiplug. Looked OK from outside, but were knackered where they go into the plug. Engine movement would casue loss of connection leading to stalling randomly. Worth a close look.
