  1. ok, chrged the battery for two days, went out to it yesterday and it started fine first time. then 10 mins later was really struggling to start!
  2. any good modifications you can do on them to loose the understeer?
  3. ok, just to clarify, the noise is coming from the end of the engine where it meets the gearbox? which is where the chain is, if its not a normal noise its most likely to be the chain tensioner or the blade...inwhich case you've got a expensive bill coming. gearbox has to come out
  4. er...that arrow (if this is the drivers side) is actually showing the direction the car will be going when moving forwards' date=' the wheel would be rotating in the opposite direction! :@ [ Edited Mon May 31 2004, 12:31AM ']
  5. well, i'm not gonna offer to help, as a)i've never done it before, and b)its a real pain apparantly. dunno if you're aware fo this, but the gearbox needs removing to anything to do with the timing chain except the top bolt type tensioner. and its most likely the blade which that tensioner, er, tensions is damaged. if so, they chain will slip and trash the engine. i've heard that the cost can be £1k to change the chains and tensioners at a garage. parts cost £250. good luck. (i have to do this to mine very soon, and am not looking forward to it) [ Edited Sun May 30 2004, 12:03AM ]
  6. thats really bizarre, never heard of this on a vr6 before. what type of discs were fitted? they didn't happen to be cheap ones ,like halfords, did they? and were decent quality pads used as well? i'm pretty much clutching at straws with this idea. but i know a lot of vauxhalls have problems warping every type of disc/pad except genuine and uprated ones.
  7. have to check them out. yeah, i'm from maidenhead, which is just a road (and a very fun one at that) away from bracknell.
  8. ok, i have just bought a voltmeter...but have no real idea how to use it (what do i set the big dial to?)!
  9. good man! lol thats a good price (tho its not fitted price is it?), bracknell tyres do 4 for £234 in 205/50/15
  10. ok, thought i may as well ask all this as i'm bored. not been using the car for a while as its MOT has run out and i have a couple of things to do to get it through (done most of it, rests getting done on tues before the retest), but i have a couple of other little problems. keep in mind its juts had the headgasket replaced, along with all service items, and thw wishbone bushes (not that this makes any difference to these issues).... the battery appears to keep going flat (is only lasting about 2 days max), but i'm not 100% convinced its the battery, thinkin it could be somethin else, is ther

    Ideas?

yes it will' date=' i had opposite tyres on each side of mine and it did. not saying you're wrong kev, but would be better to eliminate this first, always a bad idea mixing tyres on a performance car. had avon on one side and pirelli i think on the other. but just out of curiousity which tyres have you got on each side yeeha? and what do you have on the rear (are they the same, cause you could switch the back wheels onto the front which will make it a bit better)? 12. ah...you got them off ebay. so you won't be able to send them back then, unless you find a rare honest person on there. best bet is to try and sell them on again on ebay.
  13. yeah, most cars aren't 'even' i reckon wrong offset

    Blow out!

theres usually loads of part-worn tyre places in the yellow pages. i've got a couple of old 205/50/15's if anyone wants some real cheepies.

    Ideas?

yep, agree with Macca. i had this at one point, the vr6 really needs matched tyres cause it has a fair amount of performance. i've used different tyres on each side on lower powered cars before and its not been am issue...but the vr pushes the tyres hard.
  16. yep, NCT's and P6000 are poor. my mate has toyo's and i don't like them as they seem to wear very quickly. long live uniroyals i say, lol!
  17. guessing 17" wheels would be essential tho? but if anyone with a late (OBD2) car does this, i'll be interested in buying your 288mm calipers off you [ Edited Fri May 28 2004, 12:27AM ]
  18. yeah, vr6's are probably quicker top end...but a well driven impreza will dissapear at under 120 speeds. although i always find it surprising how many impreza drivers seem too scared to go qick round corners (despite booting it in a straight line)...i managed to hold one through corners in a punto...what a waste.
  19. sorry, thgought you wanted a rear one...the rear ones are about £70 each, front is £150 (inc vat.)
  20. police would only use the very newest scoobies...so if it an older one (i.e. the good lookin one) i wouldn't worry.
