  1. there's nothing else i can do with the car... no one in hk knows anything about VWs...
  2. thanks all for your advice... i think.. afterall im gona scrap the VR6
  3. yeah... i heard it is a simple job too... but as i said, no one in hong kong knows anything about VR6s... i might end up scrapping it due to this problem
  4. alright. thanks for the info i took the car to an AA certified garage today and they told me that if i want to change the rocker cover gasket, they will need to take the engine out... and the labour is 500quid... f*ck
  5. oh by the way. i suspect my car is running on *limp* mode. its lost some power. how do i chcek if it is on limp mode? thanks once again jeff
  6. ok. as some of you might've noticed, i'm quite new to the forum, but i've started 2 threads already with problems concerning my VR6 i always thought it was running great. but the more i check it, the more problems i find ~ putting aside the problem with the starting and the loss of coolant, i found out that my fuel rail is leaking petrol. the plastic tube/hose that goes into the fuel rail (on the left of the fuel rail as you look at it) is leaking petrol. other than this problem, i found that there are some of what i think is engine oil behind the engine.. all over the block. what can be the
  7. the most i can do for my car is change the wheel and check the oil, coolant etc... dont know how to do anything else... so no DIY for me JUST YET i think the local mechanics should be able to sort it, but i dont want them to mess up my car since they dont know shite about it... what do you all think? p.s. one garage wouldn't believe it's a V6 under the bonnet until i popped the hood and let him see for himself.. good entertainment isn't it.
  8. oh and no i haven't had time to sort it out... it's sitting in my garage now the downside is... i'm using a vauxhall vectra and a toyota camry for my daily journeys... ... the camry is fine but the vectra is total shite... the engine sounds like a diesel when it is a 2.0L petrol lol
  9. really? how can it be related? sorry i'm not questioning your suggestion in any way but i'm no mechanic and i don't understand how that could happen... thanks jeff
  10. mine is a late 1994 model. OBD1.. It should be UK spec as i imported it privately to Hong Kong (with all the luxuries.. leccy windows, heated recaros... etc etc)
  11. ahh... the problem is... i'm in hong kong.. and no one knows anything about VWs... (let alone VR6s) i had my VR6 privately imported... ==__=="
  12. thanks for all that info.. hope its just a thermostat.. do i just get a new one from the VW dealer or are there any better choices ? thanks, jeff
  13. my VR OBD1 is losing coolant quite rapidly. the warning light lit up one day and i popped the hood and found that i had very little coolant in the reservoir. so i thought, ok lets add some then... so i did, to the maximum point... but then after a week or so, i checked it again, and it was at the minimum point. my question is, is the engine supposed to *use* the coolant.. would it disappear? as far as i know it is a sealed system? also, what are the common problems? hope the radiator isn't gone... p.s. the engine isn't boiling over... Any help appreciated Thanks, Jeff
  14. Pete, I had the same problem. And yes I had to have my compressor and pump replaced. But they were re-con ones. Got everything done for about 110quid
