  1. i'd bet good money the mkIV through to mkVI fit. they're all threaded thats for sure. here's my one (sorry for poor quality pics) - i need a decent camera phone! [ Edited Thu Oct 21 2004, 06:30PM ] [ Edited Thu Oct 21 2004, 06:30PM ]
  2. they are indeed threaded. i'll get a pic on my crappy camera phone. got it for about a tenner of ebay brand new, then only cost £11 for a new leatherette gaiter from vw.
  3. you should just get what i've got, mkVI polo knob, screws straight on
  4. you'd need 5/6 times your salary to get a house down here, houses start at £200k, so you'd jave to earn at least £40k per annum. which is crazy. hence why i live at home still.
  5. thinks its about 1150kg's, 5 door is about 30-40kg's more. dunno where i got this info from, but it sounds about right.
  6. very very little if anything. in fact, having an 'open' cone filter may well loose a few bhp cause it'll drag in hot air form the engine bay (and vr6's get very hot). at that mileage i'd wanna check the timing chain runners aren't comning apart (presuming it hasn't been done already)
  7. yep, a couple of mates have got very lucky over the years, one had one go at 20mph and ended up on the pavement just missing someone. nothing he could do, was a passenger. did a fair amount of damage to the car as the wheel came round alongside door. another had one go at 60mph and unbelieveably it kept in a straight line.

thats silly money, get it all second hand and fit it yourself...i know of a vr6 being broken as well.
  9. yep, theres even a ford fotted with a vr6!
  10. thats freaky, mine is back today as well!
  11. no, they're different part no's thats for sure, although they'd both prob fit. you'd be pretty insane to use a CL one on a VR6, as in all likelyhood the vr ones are beefed up. never skimp on ball joints, if they go its pretty much a sure thing that you'll have a big accident. i only use genuine vag ball joints. 12. i'd say coilpack as long as its working fine! just my opinion though.
  13. yep, clutch....hope you have money saved up, its gearbox out time. may be a good time to do timing chains/runners if they're worn.
  14. actually, i know of a vr6 being broken, the one i got the recaros from. he doesn't have front brakes but prob has full rear beam/brakes. more than likely the bushes will need replacing on any second hand stuff you buy. if you want standard bushes it's gonna be cheaper to get new sihbones anyway. the new wishbone i have has bushes with it and is genuine vag, they cost £50 new. there were no wishbone/rear beam changes thorughout the vr6's...all the same.
  15. they do tend to be a tad rattly when cold, if it gets worse it'll most likely be timing chains wearing out.
  16. i'll bring all my racewear just in case! lol
  17. anyone have a pre '95 car with a buzzer? always presumed mine was broken.
  18. i think you will need hubs and wishbones. you'll need to change the arb as well if you change wishbones. i actually have a new unused genuine vw vr6 wishbone if you find you do need one, make me an offer.
  19. mine doesn't..is annoying. my previous car (punto) would switch the h/lamps off with the ignition...was great, i just left them on the whole time. i still leave them on in my vr.
  20. pete's in kidgrove. i am occasionally up there as my girlie is in her final year at keele uni.
  21. the mkIV cabrio's are 4 stud, its basically a mkIII with a facelift, hence the mk3.5 nickname. its most likely just gonna need vr6 hubs up front to change it, not sure about rears is it drums?

    MPG

just over 30 is easily achieveable on the motorway whilst still goin a reasonable pace. 25ish around town i think. (been so long since i drove the vr!)
