    damn MOT

yep, it failed. not all bad, it was good that one thing was drawn to my attention. here's the fail's... -rear wishbone mounts collapsed (the bush is hanging out one side!) -steering column loose (guessing loose bolt) -headlamp aim -rear fog lamp warning lamp slightly comes on when brake is pressed (i mean seriously, how is that a dangerous thing? you can barely see it doin it! any ideas on this one welcome?) at least i have new bushes ready to go in, and i'm kinda glad i know about that one.
  2. whats so special about a glass sunroof? all golf vr6's have one!
  3. yep, you be crazy...you just know some ar****le will key it the next week.
  4. no, but they have EDL (which is sort of like a cross between a primitive lsd and traction control, but only works upto about 30mph). get an ATB (torque biasing diff) instead of an LSD tho, its better.
  5. well, if you want weight loss at all cost....remove absolutly every bit of the interior, and bolt in a carbon fibre drivers seat. then get carbon fibre or fibreglass doors/bonnet/bootlid. change the windows for perspx ones.
  6. its basically the seal between the head (bit with the camshafts and all the valves), and the block (bit with pistons and crankshaft). also keeps the oil and water seaparate as well.
  7. just read the last bit of your post...it is possible, but it'll cost you...if you do get it converted to manual, i would get the tiing chain/tensioners/runners done then to save on labour costs later.
  8. take the engine out of the mkIII shell, and place it in a mkI...or a polo?!
  9. well, to make it last for silly miles i'd say start changin the oil every 5k with synta silver every time. and just get it serviced every 10k. timing chain will be fine forever (does stretch tho), tensioners do need replacing, but thats usually around 100k, which requires the 'box out..so may as well do chain, as well as all tensioners and runners, then.
  10. yeah, all vauxhalls are very underbraked...two hard stops is enough to fade them completely! lol
  11. if you don't overheat your brakes (get brake fade) get the proper ones from your vw rip off merchant. uprated stuff is not good when cold, si if you don't need to handle extra heat, theres no point sacrificing cold performance.
  12. exactly, its the only v6 with one head...most have two.
  13. yes, i'd have thought so, but it'll be a lot of work. lot easier (and quite possibly cheaper) to sell yours and buy a car with it already fitted...if you want it that much.
  14. god help us all....how do you get insurance pittuf?
  15. well, if we're gonna talk about past cars, i've had... b reg nova sr (wrote it off after two weeks - oops, but only fault accident to date), c reg nova sr (rotted away), e reg nova sr (got rear ended), d reg nova sr (sold one at last), w reg punto sporting (three 'boxes in two years, then had to sell to pay of debts from the second (out of warranty) 'box), l reg cavalier 1.6 (had at same time as punto, bought as project, paid £150, fixed, and sold for £500), k reg golf vr6.
  16. i'm not sure i agree with your tactics totally kev, depends on how you use them. when i used to drive a slower car, but would be fast along a twisting 60 limit a-raod i used to get so pissed off when i cought a slow moving, but more potent, car which would boot it when i got alongside to overtake...was also very dangerous.
  17. and its in the ford galaxy as well!
  18. anyone got theres and fitted them yet?
  19. i need a new bumper, so that might be why i'm not so bothered! lol
  20. if some little pleb tries to overtake me like that i just do a 'schumacher chop'! lol (anyone who has watched f1 will know what i mean, for those who haven't he doesn't block until they're almost alongside, then does it violently - that'll scare them into not doing it again!)
  21. be careful driving round with damaged hoses, i fried a spark splug and damaged the h/gasket by driving around with a broken vacuum hose (tho i didn't know about it at the time)
  22. you'd be surprised...it was ahead of a fair few mkIII vr6's a month ago at donnington. they have a bhp per tonne formula...so all the cars are equal in that effect. the caddy weighs very little.
  23. what the hells a pen drive? (for us non-computer geeks! )
  24. suspension has to be the first mod...vr6's are crap on standard suspension.
  25. well, looked on etka at the sharan vr6 coolant hoses...the diagram shows it to be exactly the same as the golf, but the part no's are very slightly different. worht investigating further...my local ford dealer has a galaxy v6 in stock, so i'm gonna go and try and have a look under the bonnet.
