  1. There aren't any metal plugs, but you can get them filled in. can either use metal and have them welded, but you'll have to remove the carpets. Or you can use fibreglass matting, but you'll need to clean the area around there to enable the matting and resin to bond. Or you could just remover the existing plugs, treat the rust with an inhibitor, then paint with fresh undersell, and finally put some fresh plugs. Whichever route you chose, not that difficult a job.
  2. That's correct, the cable can be got at from under the dash on the drivers side, BUT it's a pain in the a**e. Can be quite fiddly.
  3. One point, your oil is a bit thin, 10w40 would be better. Also you say that the knock started since you changed the oil. It's quite feasible that your oil is the cause of your knocking sound do to it being too thin so it's not offering the same amount of protection. It will still be lubing, but not sticking so to speak. It also may be that the thicker oil was masking the sound originally, and what you can hear now is maybe a bit of play in the main bearings, or more likely the hydraulic lifters in the head are slapping about as there is no oil in them as it's too thin to stay there. I would su
  4. Man, thats really unlucky being rammed. Were you p*****g people off by leaving them at the lights or something? As said already, Golf is a good choice, more practical than the Rado, saying that the Rado looks so much better in my opinion. I always wanted a VR Rado, but struggled to get in and out of my friends G60 Rado, so I never got one and bought the VR golf, and I LOVE it.
  5. Oh, I pay £357 with normal insurance, was hoping for something really stupid like £185 as a classic vehicle with very limited mileage!!!!! You never know, something good might happen!!!!!!!
  6. I'd have said bearing also. But I'm not a mechanic. My mate is though, does that count???!! CV joint would make noise in either direction, not just in reverse.
  7. Same here. have book marked them ready for when I can afford some
  8. Grieg piano concerto in G minor, or bit of Bach. If I'm feeling adventurous I'll put on a bit Tchaikovsky.
  9. Engine looking real sweet there. Fancy doing mine?!!!
  10. Oh forgot, if your a 5 door and looking for a leather interior, I have one I'm willing to sell. Heated and all working. Only issue is with bolster on drivers seat (which is normal) is soft and could do with replacing, but other than that, it's all good
  11. Not a premium member yet??!! wot you playin at sir........... Good job on the jibs done so far.
  12. Sorry my laptop is perverse, I type thing to do, it put THONG to do.??? NO IT WASN"T me pushing the i which is next to the o, it was the laptop honest.. 13. OH DEAR!!!!!!!!!!! trying to make popping rice I dare say!!!! no I didn't really type that did I??
  14. There should be movement in all directions BUT not a huge amount, more a very slight wiggle!!!!! if there was NO movement, the pistons would weld themselves to the bores. And relax!!!!!!! But yes a compression test is always a good thong to do, to see where it's knackered!!!
  15. Well after reading the comments on here, I don't think I'll bother opening up the thread at all.....
  16. Coming along nicely...you must be happy
  17. Sounds like a typical coil pack issue. I had the same problem, intermittent misfire, let the engine cool down, all fine, then as the engine warmed up the worse the misfire got. Replaced the coil pack, no more misfire. See if anyone is local to you who wouldn't mind you having a lend of their coil pack to eliminate this as the cause. Best of luck, electrical faults are always a pain...
  18. certainly sounds like it. feel your carpet, if it feels greasy then its coolant. your matrix is busted
  19. Thats a SWEEEET result...But just confirms that you need to have a spare coil pack as you never know when you need one!!!!!
  20. Good to here that it's something easy to fix. Always a worry when it's an electrical issue!!!!
  21. Let me know how that goes. I've had a brick built garage done specifically for the VR, and won't be using it for work anymore. Also was gonna limit mileage to something like 2 to 3k max
  22. The value of the MK3 VR6 is getting dire.It should be MUCH higher than it is, I don't say this as a biased owner, but logically thinking. The VR6 is quite limited in numbers as is the mk2 gti or the mk1 gti or clipper, and these other cars are stupid money in comparison. I think our biggest problem is that the engines are so big and thirsty, and what with the bloody idiots in office keep putting fuel duty up, time is definitely against us. So what do we all do...hold on to a depreciating classic, or hold on waiting for everyone to scrap/break or track their cars making the numbers even lower
