  1. I know chanis wouldnt make it smoke, possibly something to do with the head with it being on over run? But while the engine is taken apart would it be worth getting valve stems etc... done? Expensive to get a clutch and and crankshaft oil seal done? The garage thats from has done the chains on his own VR (not a golf.... galaxy) Its sounding very costly that why I thought about either a full replacedment VR, or 4mo (would he 4mo just simply bolt in and go or are the looms different?)
  2. Got a slight rattle coming from the chains. It isn't very loud ( the bonnet has to be up to hear it and rev'd to 1200rpm. The car is a '97 with 120k. It still pulls strong and doesn't feel down on power but is smoking slightly on overrun. Do they need doing asap or have I got a while on them? I've been quoted from 1 garage 450 inc parts to get done. Good price? What other parts is worth doing while chains are getting done? Is it worth repairing this engine or getting a different engine? Vr, 4mo etc....? Thanks
  3. Some people just have no respect for other peoples property. I refuse to park next to people carriers, large vans or any car that has a baby seat. I usually park right at the back over 2 spots and usually no1 parks next to you. They just give you dodgy looks. Obviously don't do this if its stupidly busy.
  4. Which polo is it from? phoned VW the other day and they didnt stock them.
  5. So you just added a hockey puck on top of the orig mount? did the back of the sump lift up much? Thanks
  6. I really want to see merc alphards on a mk3 and 18s can work with the right ride height!
  7. ^^ looks lower than 90mm. I can just say fit my foot under the front splitter. I need to bring my coilies down! Need ot get arches rolled first though.
  8. The exhaust thats on mine is basically a 6 branch down to a back box. Sunds awesome but its very loud on full throttle and the neighbours arent too pleased. Gets a bit droney on the motorway at certain speeds aswel but just dont drive in that rev range.
  9. I dont have any pics yet. But the locking adjuster on the front is 25mm from the bottom coil. Sump is 60mm from the floor but I havent heard it scrape. But theres a few marks near the sump plug, but I think thats from the previous owner. I use mine everyday and it gets in everywhere but with the occasional splitter scrape.
  10. Just adjusted my front coilies yesturday and the front from ground to arch is 22" the backs are 23" Thats runing the standard BBS VR6 wheels atm. Ive got quite a bit left on the coilies, probs enough to get the splitter touching the ground haha and thats with the helpers stil in place. I had 4 passengers in the car and it still drove fine, couldnt hear any scrubbing. but the wheels are tucked right in running slight camber.
  11. Im getting all my arches sorted when in bodyshop. Taking the sill covers off aswel but im not looking forward to that bit. Is it always worth cutting the rust out even if it just looks like surface rust? Im getting all 4 arches rolled and the full car painted. (need to get a new drivers wing though cos that isnt worth repairing)
  12. Do you just add a hockey puck to the top of the orig mount? I heard of a few people using 3 pucks (2 to replace the orig mount and 1 to raise the sump) But where do you get the longer bolt? Anyone having problems with bonnet clearance because 25mm seems alot. Just spacing the front mount will only move the front of the sump higher but its the sump plugs that is at the lowest point. So is anyone spacing out the other mounts? Thanks
  13. I know you wont all like it but my mate has a sweet polo saloon.... I was kinda hoping the days for this and poloshow would be the same like last year (but with out all the crap) then I could go down in his car.
  14. No longer going My mk3 will be in the unit getting bodywork and paint done hopefully in time for VWfest.
  15. The only catch tnak I can find with a 19mm fitment is this http://www.nengun.com/trust-greddy/oil-catch-tank-1000 Where is everyone getting theres from? Thanks
  16. How much we looking at a garage to do the tensioner? Thanks
  17. Bumping up an old thread rather than starting a new one. My car is a '97 on a R so its OBD2 with 120k. Its got a slight rattle when cold at about 1200 revs. Would replacing the tensioner sort it, or is it best to replace the chain aswel? Thanks
  18. Any other garages in the northeast that people have used?

  20. I think my car might be in bodyshop by then. If its not I'll definately be up for this.
  21. The catch can and the pipe for it. Filter can be picked up quite easily. Where are people mounting it?
  22. Tyres id go for 195/40 up front and 205/40 for the backs. Id get the arches rolled otheriwse they will catch. How you want them sitting? Do you want them flush to the arches or a slight bit of poke?
