  1. Maybe not then! I believe my engine is pretty strong. I'd win a rusty arches competition!!
  2. Mid or end of September is OK with me. I might even get turd of the day prize as I still haven't had the bodywork done.
  3. I loved the sound of a Magnaflow catback I had on my old Mk3 VR6. Only problem was it was very heavy and kept banging under the car. My current VR has a custom Longlfe which is just a pipe with the smallest silencer in it. It sounds OK but it's a bit boomy when accelerating. I lent it to my son to go on holiday with the kids and they all complained it was too loud!
  4. I'll be down. Not sure if I'll go on the rollers but happy to make an equivalent donation if I don't. Count me in.
  5. I'll chat to the guy/gal. I've owned two VRs for a total of 12 years and I owned an R32 for 3 yrs. I think I'm one of the much older members so not sure if my experiences would be representative.
  6. Could be the lambda sender. I had same thing on my old vr. I drove for two miles and the cat was glowing red. The car was popping and farting, so it sounds like similar symptoms.
  7. I had a similar problem last week and we changed the crank sensor and it hasn't failed to start since. However it was suggested that the same problem could be caused by a coolant temp sensor.
  8. I had a VR6 for 8yrs then sold it and got an R32 Mk4. I've now got another VR6 Highline which I've had for 3 yrs and I'm so glad to back in the little car I love.
  9. Have you checked the R32OC? I 've seen one on there 55k in Blue, 10.5k. Not sure on full spec but worth a look. I'm tempted to get a Mk5 R32. I have a Mk6R but I miss the V6. The question is would I swap power for noise?
  10. Hi Guys. My VR6 is need of some TLC to the bodywork. When I bought it it was a great low mile car at 50k but it had spent some time standing outside. I rather stupidly let my mates son have a go at the arches about 18 months ago. He works at a Ford bodyshop so I thought he'd know what he was doing. Anyway after three months rust started to appear on the arches he'd supposedly repaired. I now want to get it sorted properly. I met a lad at the last Stealth RR day who had a smashing Red VR with immaculate paint. I took his number but I've lost it - anyone know who this guy is and wher
  11. I took out Green Flag and they charged me extra because the car was 17 yrs or older. Luckily I haven't had to use them yet.
  12. I could be interested in these. Where are you based?
  13. Have you got the bump strip from the drivers door on the 3 door?
  14. My mate bodged the broken HT lead for £1.50 so I'm up and running properly again. It seemed the last set were a bit short and therefore the lead was under tension which eventually snapped the nipple off. I'm going to order some decent quality HT leads this time. I've been recommended Magnacor leads so I'll be ordering them. They're expensive at £125 or so but they are supposed to be race quality and hopefully they'll last.
  15. ahem! Seems I jumped the gun - got a new coilpack and it's not that this time.. It's done it so many times I just assumed. This time it appears to be one of HT leads. A little nipple thing has broken off from inside the HT cap. So I'm sending 'a coilpack' back to them but they can't supply the leads. My mate is sorting them out as I type. Mine gets pretty hot especially with the weather we've been having. The day it went we had 30c in Leicester so I had assumed the heat had killed it.
  16. Bump. Still looking for exterior bump strip for drivers door pref in black. 1997 Mk3 Golf VR6 Highline. Thanks
  17. Hi Pete. Yes new ones each time. I think my local garage fitted a cheap shit one before, so last time I bought Bosch, that was May this year. I've kept the receipt and should get a refund. The supplier says he'll send it back to Bosch for a diagnosis. With the two cars I reckon I've bought seven coilpacks in the last 7yrs. Weird one eh? Won't put me off VR6s -I just love them!!
  18. I'm on my second VR6 -the first one I had for 8 yrs and this current one for two. I'm finding that both cars kept eating coipacks. I'm sure I changed it three times on the first one but this one needs a new coilpack every six months. The last coilpack (bosch) only lasted five months! The car has 65k on the clock and had three coilpacks in two years!! When they 'go' the car starts to run on five cylinders. Anyone got any ideas why this is happening? I'm fed up with shelling out 100 quid plus every time.
  19. OBD port cover -sorted. Thanks Paceo
  20. @paceo - Cheers mate. I'll be in touch. @spadam I'm based in Leicester. Apart from the port cover, the interior of my car is fine. It's the exterior door trim I'm needing preferably in black.
  21. I seem to have lost the door trim/ bump strip from the drivers side door so I'm looking for a replacement. Obviously a black one would be preferable but I can easily respray one of a different colour. Anyone got one for sale? eta. I'm also needing an OBD port cover and front windscreen scuttles. Thanks. edit. port cover and scuttle sourced but still need the bump strip.
  22. I had a similar issue on my old VR6 and the problem stemmed from a faulty Lambda sender. After it had run for ten minutes the catalytic converter was glowing red! Both my VRs have been hard on coilpacks and ht leads.
