  1. No real gains will be made without 'fiddling' with the ecu. The best value for money is in a C2/UM chip tune, fueling kit and a cheap turbo conversion. It can be done all in for £1000 - £2500 and returns will be around 300 - 400bhp and many smiles per miles. N/A tuning is money down the drain on a VR6 as the return on investment is simply does not add up.
  2. Best thing I ever did was buy the fattest ignition leads Dubsport do think they were 11mm. Car never missed again.
  3. Walbro 255 in tank is more than adequate for your application. If your goals change the walbro 400 is good for 1000bhp. At no point would I ever recommend fitting an Bosch 044. They are noisy, outdated and more effort than their worth. By the time you have one installed your £300 in on a genuine pump, swirlpot and pipes. Walbro 255 = £75 Walbro 400 = £120 Job done.
  4. Trust me I know the problems with 3rd after two gearboxes bit the dust on my old vrt. I was thinking for the price it sounds like it is worth a try. You will have to let us know how we get on?
  5. Hi, thanks for the kind words. The NGK R8 coils should work fine for my application, but if I run into issues I will be sure to try the gm coils. The boost solenoid is not reading boost it is just using the pressure from the turbo to assist the spring pressure to increase the boost level. I'm using a 5bar map sensor located in the intake manifold to read the boost, so all losses will be accounted for.
  6. Thanks, I will have to check them out. I know lots are using Don Octane (veuros, 0-400, Monster, Boba, Donkey & Xparts) but its always good to explore all options especially when building on a budget. Yes, I have fluid dampir to keep the harmonic's under control.
  7. Should be interesting to see if it makes much difference. What power are the 02c's known for holding 350-400? If your looking to preserve your current box then a larger turbo that comes in later and some cleaver mapping to keep torque down at lower rpm's should help.
  8. Nice car and Welcome to the club
  9. Yeh it's a DRP. Sounds like your on the right track, what sort of power are you aiming for? I'm going to have a go at building it myself so wish me luck lol. Never herd of them LSD's what sort of power do people put through them? I think I'm going to be sticking with the tried and tested Pelequins or Quafe, I know people putting over 1200bhp through them for years without issue.
  10. Speaking of gearboxes, picked this up the other day. It just happened to be the dirtiest gearbox on eBay. This was the result of a quick clean with the jet wash and some de-gunk. The plan is to split it and have it media blasted and powder coated.
  11. You are correct, the R32 gearbox casing is a weak point at least on the mk4 anyway. I'm planning on using a DRP out of an early 2.8 4 motion as out of all the 02M's it has the strongest casing. For now I will just add more casing support and a LSD, but in the future when I turn it up I will be looking to a dog gear kit from Don Octane/ Monster Performance; those guys are putting down over 1200bhp using an 02M with dog gears. I did at first plan on covering it to 06A MQ500 like used in the TTRS & Tiguan as some people are running up to 1100nm on standard gearboxes, but as my car
  12. New coils arrived today. Went for genuine NGK R8 coils in the end. Some people say they produce a stronger spark which will come in handy when I turn up the boost. I just like the look of them if I'm honest.?
  13. Wow, nice bit of kit. Wish these were about when I had my 12v. The packaging is really cool too.
  14. A Northern dyno day sounds good to me. Hopefully I can make it this time.
  15. Hope to see you finish it. Great work so far, the engine and gearbox look better than new.
  16. Well, you have me well jealous there. The prices of VP & Sunoco E85 are ridiculous.
  17. Eventually I will have egt sensors on each cylinder to monitor temps as I add nitrous. This is a simple addition through the CAN system.
  18. Running Haltech as it is feature rich and user friendly. I plan on wiring and mapping the whole thing my self and felt Haltech offers the best customer support around. There is no use for flex fuel in our country as E85 is not available at the pumps, so contestant E85/ C85 from VP on Sunoco is the only option, rendering flex fuel pointless. I plan on having multiple maps for pump fuel, C85 and Q16.
  19. I second that the black one is what mk3 dreams are made of for me.
  20. Time to start wiring this lot together. After hours and hours starting to make sense of it. This is my version of a millspec consentric twist.
  21. Boost solenoid mounted. Water feed to turbo plumbed. vacum pipes finished, looks like spaghetti junction now. Wooden fuel pump and alternator bracket made just need to have it made in metal now.
  22. Injectors bungs made for stock injectors holes as 1200cc precision injectors had to be mounted in the manifold as too big for the head.
  23. Then had a special bolt machined to mount the drive pulley for the fuel pump.
