  1. my mot tester wont touch it without a cat if its meant to have one. simply coz its his ticket he'd be playing with if caught, so cat on for mot, cat off as soon as it rolls off his property, simple and the best way.
  2. is it actually worth doing the swap, my car pulls solid to the red line and and has plenty of torque was just more thinking along the re-map side as i can only 'chip' mine and dont see the point in all that hassle of soldering in a chip for only small gains. plus with a 'live map' i can have it adjusted again if engine spec changes
  3. hey fella's im sure this has been asked before however i done a search but couldnt find anything, so a couple of questions 1---how easy is it to change my 1993 obd1 coil pack engine to obd2? i understand i need to change the inlet manifold throttle body ecu and engine loom but is the throttle cable operated or fly by wire. 2---is there much point in doing this as i'll be changing from the larger throttle body set up found on obd1 engines and a rado inlet mani to a smaller throttle body. 3---can my car then be re-mapped as per an ordinary obd2 vr engine and will it make similar gains
  4. as a rule of thumb allow the speedo to read a maximum of 10% to high at motor way speeds. but its normally 7-8%, at 100 you could be doing as little as 90 but more likely is 92-93. quote1274894276=Dragon Dave] sorry 1st was meant to read 45, car is basically standard, nothing special. got early obd1 so larger throttle body got rado inlet mani big mofo air filter and cat back single box zorst. it's just hitting the red line in 1st 2nd 3rd. i've never redlined it in 4th or 5th but at a speedo indicated 145 it was still accelerating and only at about 5500 rpm i dont think my car has a propper re
  5. is the spring loose when the shock is on full droop? if not try compressing the spring slightly with the shock on full drop to take pressure off the ring then tap it round with a mallet and chisel/punch. otherwise just keep it lubed up and keep tapping it with a soft face mallet like a copper on to shock it. a club hammer may bend something
  6. im with AF have been for a while now. im 33 and pay 457, with a cat 1, plus the little extras and the dumb interest for paying monthly brings it to 657. but then i got full (10yrs) protected NCB so think thats a little steep especially as it went up a few quid for no reason last re-newal, alloy wheels-induction kit-coilies and cat back all covered with no extra charge, not a penny, schweeet.
  7. the carbon can is to minimise fuel vapour smells or something silly like that. with a couple of 3" silicon bits and some 3" alloy tube makes a great way to re-locate the filter to behind the air duct in the bumper. or somewhere to run the feed for a BMC, but be carefull of water/rain as it will ruin a filter instantly if possitioned that low and possibly your engine if you suck up a puddle. dont use a filter with wire mesh as this will rot and contaminate the filter. i found that out the hard way unfortunately
  8. DONT SPRAY THE MAS/MAF WITH ANYTHING. the only thing that you could use that you might have laying about is electrical contact cleaner spray. it's delicate enough if sprayed from a distance of a few inches away from the maf opening and dries without residue. the isv is a silver coloured cylinder with a small black box attached to it. start the car and unplug it if its working correctly the engine note with change and idle will become erratic, to clean this remove it from the engine and spray inside with electrical contact cleaner, can use brake and clucth cleaner if its rotten as this is a bit

    who can

i was thinking of budget really and an older 1.3 would be cheaper, then can use tghe entire mk3 loom

    who can

guy's my vr failed it's mot and im currently trying to squeeze it through, but what i wanna know is who can do a mk2vr conversion for me? since i doubt it will make another one next year in it's current shell due to rust, i dont want to pay stealth or the phirm or someone as they want over 2g's to do it.. i just need someone to get the engine in and running and i can do the tidying up, i just dont have the skill/tools to do the major work also i know it's easier to use a valver shell due to the loom issue's but was wondering if it's possible to just use any mk2 even a pony 1.3 cl or something
  11. bmc. not keen on them, great on a 6poy but deadly if you hit a puddle
  12. you gone 4mo spad? something you might be interested in looking at is a new thing from k&n i thiunk that has a cone inside a replacement airbox.
  13. it's #7 not #2. sorry to butt in. my rev counter say's the car is idling at 550 but my digital rev counter say's 750. on private race track with a 3 mile straight i get 55 in 1st 85 in 2nd 105 in 3rd, never done 4th but was still accelerating as the speedo indicated 145 in 5th
  14. only issue is just make sure you have changed all sealing rings especially housing to block as the thermo housing warp's lightly
  15. my ecu clocked a fault as 'exceeded maximum rev limit' a couple of month's ago. that was only a 1 off and only coz i lost traction practicing my lauch technique. i usually change at about 6700 IF im absolutely raging it. that's about the best place for a vr imo, a good punt is about 5000

  17. i was thinking of the final destination mate. im working but if near my work area i can pop over and have a chat in the van
  18. i feel ya pain mate, i failed last week on welding and emision's. and got about 6 different advisories
  19. i may have some 'professional valet quality' car cleaning products laying about, everything from leather cleaner to glass cleaner. a friend use's them in his business, he charges for a valet pack to each customer but a pack can do 2 or 3 cars so he's got a huge stack of odd bit's laying about. i'll see what i can dig up
  20. hmmmm im thinking maybe not, i dont car how obsolete they are
  21. the choice is you's fella, but get him to fit it as a removable/bolt on tail so then if you dont like it or get fed up getting pulled because of it you can easily remove it and fit a smaller one
  22. if your gunna go straight through then de-cat it and get ya mate to run it straight from the 6 branch to the back box. but seriously the noise does get a bit much and im a firm beleiver in the louder the better. for the tail pipe design if you want noise you want a single large tail pipe. the 6x3 oval is good as it something like a 4" round. basically for noise you'll need a large tail pipe, fitting twin 2.5 or 3" will give it a nice raspy sound as well as loud fitting a large single tail will add volume and make it sound like a fighter plane when your flooring it
  23. my car failed it's emmisions. was told mine is 0.6 and should be below 0.2, and is only showing isv as a fault, despite fitting a replacement/used one, but mine is a coil pack obd1 so might be different. i've been advised to fit a new filter as mine is rotten plus run some fuel cleaner/injector cleaner through it, check your filter isnt dirty or blocking up then run some cleaner through it, try fuel system/injector cleaner and/or 10k boost, im gunna be putting fuel cleaner/injector cleaner plus 10k boost through mine tonight if i get home at a sensible time if not i'll update in the morning if
  24. advance warning,,,,,,, if you go for straight through zorst dont start moaning when your getting beaten by small engined 'hot hatches' off the light's because you will lose low down torque and power, straight through is only good when used at full chat at the top of the power band and at high speed. on an up note the noise they make is fecking awesome but on a down note it get tiresome and annoyingly to loud after the inittial joy has worn off. i was running d/p straight through back to to 6x4 oval free flow back box and you could here the thing from street's away even gentle driving. also it
