Misfire please help (what else could it be)
spindat45 replied to Phat VR6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
If all electrical/mechanical checks don't throw up anything conclusive the following might help. I fitted a s/hand low mileage engine in mine last year. The engine had sat for over a year prior to me purchasing it and wasn't fitted for a futher 9 months. It started first turn of the key with a ZR1 charger fitted but had a missfire below 2000 rpm. It was noticable as you pulled away or blipped the accelerator. It was probably still there over those revs but less noticable. After swapping and checking ALL of the usual suspects, a cylinder leak test confirmed it as having a stuck/sticky valve i -

Car is still not ready so sadly I'm out of this one as well. Are there any shows left for me to go to this year........? -
Do you wear real animal fur? DO NOT OPEN LINK IF EASILY OFFENDED!!!!!
spindat45 replied to H13VYY's topic in General Chat
I havne't clicked on the link but I got sent an email link the other day on the same subfect and I'm guessing from everybody's comments it's the same one. I read the warnings about not watching it so watched some of it. Couldn't bring myself to watch anymore than about 2 mintutes of it. Cruel and disgusting are about the only two words that I can use to describe those involved, without being heavily censored on here. -
I was thinking exactly the same thing. A very cost effective way of having a unique car and protecting the original paintwork. Keeps the value of the car up when you come to sell it also as it won't show on the log book as having a colour change or so i'm told

Have a good one folks. Mine is still in bits so won't be able to make it

I'm almost certain it had one hole for a lambda sensor and the other one was blanked off with a removeable threaded bolt. I didn't fit it myself (sparkz did) but it's been fine and is made of good quality stainless imo. I bought a gasket and a new clamp to con

270 bhp is pretty damn good Ben. I hope I get somewhere near that when mine is back together. Once Tony & Craggsy have finished playing with balls it looks as though we could have a VR6OC Charge off/ Boost off in the making....

Kev your dash is out what for i thought u was supercharging the vr6 Not making Chitty Chitty Bang Bang mind u it will fly down the straight but not in the Air will u be @ volksfest 26 th July LOL. Thanks Luke. I've seen that PDF before and I know about the 2 tiny grub screw you refer to. Good idea to change the oil of you're not sure when it was last done. The company that Ben mentioned will be able to give you a difinitive answer. Tehy might recommend a complete overhaul if that's the case and also depending on the mileage it's covered but as many will tell you, the ZR range of chargers are a very reliable form of forced induction albeit slghtly limited in power compared to VF and more recently, Rotrex. I'm loving mine though
-
Hi Luke. I have a ZR1 fitted to mine. As these chargers are a sealed unit and not oil fed, they don't need a specific oil unless you're repalcing the oil that's inside. (not sure what you'd use for that) If you want to know what grade of engine oil to use, then just stick to good old Synta silver 10w40 semi synthetic or an equivalent make. The thinner fully synthetic oils you've mentioned will be too thin for a VR engine imo, even one fitted with a charger. As far as plugs go, I use NGK Laser Platinum PFR6Q 6458 plugs. They're the ones recommeded for Audi S4's and are a colder plug so will

Looks like you all had a great weekend. Great pics and a good turn out by the VR6OC Gutted that I couldn't make it but my dash is only just going back in and there's a lot of engine work still to do. A slim chance it'll be running before Spring Fest but an even slimmer one that I'll be there in it. Kevin

ADVICE REQUIRED ABOUT GEARBOX
spindat45 replied to HIGHLINE VR6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
It sounds more like the syncromesh in the gearbox. Have a play with the adjustment on the gear linkage but generally if you can selct the gears without a problem under normal acceleration but it crunches at high revs/speed then I'd say it's the box. My old box did this and I believe it's quite common on 02A gearboxes. It is possible to have the box reconditioned by somone who knows what they're doing to resolve this. Kevin -
how do i remove the "crack pipe"?
spindat45 replied to fritzenberg's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
As above. This will sound odd but wiggle the pipe and pull towards the battery. You may need to pull it towards the front of the car and break it to get it out. Once you get it out, check that there is no corrosion in the opening it comes out of, if not the new rubber seal can split when refitting the new pipe. Kevin -
come on Kevin get u finger out get Patrick to help ! and will mr sparks be with u as well for GTI Inters will be a good meet but if u dont make it see u at Volksfest LOL. Patrick is doing most of the work mate. If mine's not done in time for Inters it'll be up and running for Volksfest.

I'd like to be at this one with mine guys but can't confirm as yet i'm having a few repairs done over the next couple of weeks. Nothing major. Heater matrix, ported and polished head, timing chains, lightened flywheel, 312 brake upgrade. The usual stuff. Fingers crossed it all gets done in time and I may even get a quarter mile in for the first time. Kevin

Once upon a time, a perfect man met a perfect woman. After a perfect courtship, they had a perfect wedding. Their life together was, of course, perfect. One snowy, stormy Christmas Eve, this perfect couple was driving their perfect car along a winding road, when they noticed someone at the side of the road in distress. Being the perfect couple, they stopped to help. There stood Santa Claus with a huge bundle of toys. Not wanting to disappoint any children on the eve of Christmas, the perfect couple loaded Santa and his toys into their vehicle. Soon they were driving along delivering the toys

I'd say air ride suspension too....

It's the oil pump at the back of the engine below the throttle body guys. It complains about being woken up as we all do, on cold mornings. As long as it quietens down after a few minutes on idle you have nothing to worry about. Another reason to make sure your oil is always topped up Kevin

Richie's 94 vr - still ongoing...
spindat45 replied to richievr's topic in Members Rides and Event Photos
The wheels look spot on Richie! Lower than low. On the mileage front I did something similar when mine hit 100000 miles. Pulled into a layby on the North Circular to take a pic. Just hit 111111 miles but sadly I had nowhere to stop to take a pic. -
Well done on the self control there mate. Not sure if others would have been as diplomatic.
