  1. what was the car painted in? if it has been painted in solid 2K or Cellulose then this is normal. 2K or Waterbased basecoat and clear shouldnt do this though!
  2. mine gives a little puff sometimes, and i followed my m8 in his vr and his does the same! i have noticed that it uses a little oil but nothing drastic. i wouldnt worry, as long as it isnt knocking and there isnt smoke pouring out the back then drive it on.
  3. i removed the restrictive lumps on std obd1 TB and that even made a difference! much more responsive.

  5. tom, out of interest what size pipe did u use for your pipework. i.e to the intercooler etc i have 3" is this ok?
  6. price wise im making my inlet and exhaust manifolds to keep the price down. i will do all the pipe work out of stainless pipe. i just picked up my donor engine today (£200)complete! im stripping head and block, fitting new rings, shells, guides, seals and ARP bolts before i do anything. also im going to work the head aswell. i think its more rewarding if u do the work yourself.
  7. i had a T35 turbo on my cossy and i was running 28 psi all day with a -34 actuator. and it would hardly tale off. my mates can run 35 psi with T4s and GT35s with a greedy boost controller and they dont have any probs with no boost at top end? the only thing which turbos can be faulted for is lag, the bigger the turbo the more lag u will get. there is one thing u can do to combat this problem! (i) fit a Anti Lag System!! a couple of my mates use them on there cars, great fun.

  9. mine has to be my 4x4 cosworth with nearly 400bhp RIP, u could launch it down the road with all 4 wheels smoking! (ci) never lost one race (apart from my m8s cossy with 550bhp!!)

  11. 160 for water pump change is abit excessive, think i payed bout 25 for mine and fitted myself, very straight forward as long as the pump isnt corroded in the block!!!
  12. hi yeah that would be good.i went to a meet one of my mates org, it is a vw meet. it is the first wed of every month at the mill house in chippenham (down the road from maccy Ds). its ok just meet up and have few pints nothing to serious. where u from?? also if u need any bits my mate runs volksmania in bristol which is a breakers, he breaks loads of golfs etc..
  13. At the end of the day, i have had loads of turbo cars and i love them !! thats why i wanna turbo my vr6. i feel u can get alot more power from them than chargers. And like Tom said most people in US opt for turbo over sc.. look on vortex.. Chargers may be good and spin up quicker, but its not what im after? im after 400bhp+ and if i have abit of lag then so be it, its personal preference. thanks for your views though!!

  15. hi peeps, im going to turbo my vr as soon as i have all the bits and saved enough money!! but i was wondering what is the best size turbo to put on a vr6? has any one got any experience of this? and what kind of bhp should i expect? thanks
  16. my water temp is usually around the 70 mark, never goes alot higher, and oil temp around town is usually around 96 and after fast driving it may go to 102 - 104 no more though! hope this helps?
  17. on very extreme cases u can get oval bores that would result in low compression even with new rings. this would mean a rebore and oversize rings etc...i would get the timing checked out first tho...
  18. you should have good compression striaght away with new rings they do need to bed in but this shouldnt make alot of difference, maybe it could be the valve timimg? we had this on a V8 the other day. it turned out that it was timed up wrong.
  19. on the weekend i took my TB off to bore it out, and i noticed that the intake pipe that goes to the TB has a small split in it where the back breather pipe goes in to it?? im going to get a power rohr pipe to replace it next? and i noticed oil in the pipe so that could could make the car smoke if it was to pass through TB?
  20. if i were u i wouldnt drive it like that. are u sure u have oil pressure? does the oil light come on then go out when u start engine? i had the same prob on a cosworth the tappets were noisey after a rebuild just thought it was coz it had been apart, drove it down the road and beat the bottom end out of it, turned out that oil pick up pipe was bent and oil pressure sensor was faulty!!! i never checked the oil pressure light!!! i would defo check for good oil pressure..
  21. i had exactly this prob on a RS Turbo yrs ago, it turned out to be the wires inside the dizzy?? is ur vr dizzy or coil pk??
  22. i will prob do the valve stem seals, and then drive it on!! im going to turbo it at the end of the year so i will drop a rebuilt 2.9 in aswell! thanks james. (i did read ur posts on ur car, many of them) (ci)

    does anyone know if a gti gearbox will fit vr6???? or has anyone got vr6 gearbox for sale, as my mates has two holes in his!!!!!
