  1. found a bosch dealer who can supply that very sensor for just over
  2. i got an airbag light on which has come on after the car had its codes read by a VAG-COM. i know im going to have to have a code reader plugged in again but has any1 had a similar problem so i know whether i need to save up for some costly rip off parts from veedub or not.

  4. would the ecu pick up a fault in the emissions ie if the car was running lean? i read a post on another site that an engine running lean can exceed its normal running temp quite considerably and in extreme cases cause piston meltdown!! not saying that your engine is going to melt but if it was running lean that could cause temps to exceed their norm.
  5. thats the thing mine was checked with the engine switched off. BUT it does stall on occasion and does run rough on idle which i understand can point to a faulty engine speed sensor. thats not to say that the sensor is the only thing to cause the problem. i best get it checked with the engine running before i commit to anything. thanks for the advice.

  8. had a diagnostic test done on my vr and it said the engine speed sensor is faulty. spoke to VW and they seemed a bit vague, they werent too sure whether i meant the knock sensor or the actual engine speed sensor. %-6 any way im sure some of you have had this problem, where is the engine speed sensor? im guessing its the sensor thats poking out of the block, with a single wire attached, looking at it from underneath. bell housing end. mines an obd1 in case that makes a difference? what price should i pay for it? they reckon over
  9. lowered suspension is always a good way to start, imo. i just started moding my vr and put -30mm springs on and it looks loads better already! i want to get an induction kit, fast road cams & a chip then the car will be just over 200bhp, enough for every day use. then tidy the exterior up with a pair of angel eyes. i think less is more with the golf, once you start adding bodykits and big wings etc it spoils the smoothness the golf has. look at most of the vr's on the site and practically every1 who has modded their vr has lowered them and added bigger rims. thats all they need-simple, su

  11. i aint that clever, i should think it would be a non-return valve some where in the fuel line. on/in the fuel distribution bar? i think the other guys would be of more help on that. have you checked for a fuel leak anywhere? fuel could be evaporating. seems like a fuel related problem to me. tried checking or replacing the fuel filter?
  12. is there a valve that stops the fuel from draining back to the tank? if there is and its knackered then every time its started its having to pump fuel up to the engine rather than it already being in the system.

  14. im doing my chains soon, both upper and lower chains together cost less than
  15. im taking my engine out in a couple of weeks to do the chains, cam followers and other bits and pieces. its done 91k and think it deserves a decent overhaul. only thing im concerned about is timing it as its chains. my old mans a mechanic so i think he'll be doin that. has/does anyone have a problem with theirs being rattly inside, interior wise? mines got rattles in the back and cant pin point where theyre coming from. gets frusrating at times.
  16. damn it i should of had it, gutted. i do fancy eecking a few more ponys out of mine but will prob sell it soon as a friend of mine is selling his P reg VR6, its only done about 60k and it is MINT!! quite fancy that. only thing is its red, not too sure on a red VR6?
  17. mines an obd1, so i ll definately be giving that a go!! what is the small plastic case for, beside the TB, 2 big rubber pipes attached and a small 1 branching off going to the intake pipe. theres a loud sucking noise coming from there on mine, pulled 1 of the big pipes off, car started fine but would not idle. is there any thing inside that plastic case that could malfunction?
  18. going back to the schrick manifold comments, i saw a polished one on ebay but it was for a corrado VR6. nearly bidded but wasnt sure if it would work properly on the golf? think it only went for a few hunderd pounds. it looked lurrrrvly!!
  19. i ve got a similar problem with mine pulling to the left. noticed that the off side front wheel is leaning into the arch and the near side is leaning out, with some dodgy uneven tread wear! was just going to get normal tracking looked at but guess i shud go for the full sh-bang!!
  20. i ve got a similar problem, when i let the rpm drop it fall down to about 400rpm, and pick up again. doesnt do it very often tho. on the rear occasion it will die but starts straight away. noticed it does it when i hold the engine in 5th gear, brake and let it pull the rpm down to about 1000rpm then dip the clutch and the engine will almost stop! i ve put mine down to a faulty engine speed sensor, idle is rough, it tends "chug" when going slowly. i ll get a new sensor and see what happens. i ve read fault finding tips that suggest faulty fuel pumps and knackered fuel pressure regulaters can gi

  23. i ve been wanting 17's on my vr for a while but always feared that a drop in ride height plus the 17's would cause rubbing. is this the case?
  24. is the ECU on the vr6 located under the dashboard on the drivers side? i want to take it out to get it chipped, is there any type of process you need to do when refitting the ECU coz i ve heard that you have to go thru a starting process or something before you drive the car. is that the case or is it literally "plug in and play"? cheers guys.
