  1. 55 euros is a good price! good that its better. i think the hall sender and engine speed sensor are quite a common fault with the vr, you may find its the engine speed sensor giving trouble at the top end?
  2. engine speed sensor is commonly known for giving these symptoms.
  3. i read somewhere on the forum that schrick manifolds are about
  4. the tappets are the followers. i changed the followers on my golf only tonight, you have the camshaft, then the follower (or bucket, tappet whichever) then the valve stem + valve spring. thats it.
  5. theres a company called APD in norfolk, bosch dealers, they more than halfed a price on an engine sensor that VW priced me for! all they need is a part number. try them their number is: 01603 486020
  6. good job it wasnt your headgasket that went pop coz that would of been really expensive!
  7. dealers are terrible they will order a service pack which includes everything plugs filters oil etc, even if they dont use some of the bits they will still charge you for the entire pack! they dont even take wheels off!
  8. take all the wheels off and leave them at a different location ie a relatives! the cars definately going nowhere then! that'll stop theiving scum from touching it. ~

  10. if your pulling away under load you'll be using more power than normal therefore putting more load on the release bearing.
  11. i had the same prob couple of weeks ago. has yours got a sunroof? if so the drain holes are no doubt blocked, open the sunroof and they will be in the 2 front corners. blast them thru with an air line if you can get hold of 1. i done that with mine and the crud that came out.......it hasnt leaked since.
  12. i used to have a peugeot 205 gti, they were bucket and shims and they were a nightmare to adjust. having to measure the gap then work out the shim size required ~ hopefuly the french car days are over.
  13. how do you mean are they essential? they're essential in the fact that the engine wouldnt run with out them!! the follower sits in between the cam and the valve. as the cam rotates it pushes down on the follower, overcoming valve spring pressure and in turn pushes on the valve causing it to open. as the cam passes the spring can expand and the valve closes. the follower is also refered to as a bucket. the follower (or bucket) has a small hole drilled in it which allows a certain amount of oil (under pressure) thru and creates a "cushin" between the follower and valve hence the term hydraulic.

  15. mines a 94 obd1 with coilpack and i had a similar problem but was intermitant. a code reader came up with a faulty hall sender which i replaced and was fine after that. but on mine its a seperate sensor that goes into the side of the head.
